About Michelle

Michelle is an avid gardener, and lover of food and wine. I found my paradise in Chile, where there are the freshest organic vegetables, outstanding wines and some of the most delicious olive oil that I have ever tasted. And what could be better than being able to cultivate many of these riches on my own property.

Michelle purchased this villa in 2009
Why Michelle chose Santiago

The Mediterranean climate is unbeatable. At the Casa Ishi Villa we are minutes away from some the best wineries in the world. A half hour from the Andes mountains, where there is a wide range of outdoor activity to suit your needs. And less than an hour from the center of Santiago and the international airport. It is hard to find a more convenient location.

What makes this villa unique

The Casa Ishi Villa is a garden lovers dream. It is a rare opportunity to own a property with mature fruit trees of every species imaginable, and century old palm trees. The perennial and succulent gardens add a beautiful dimension to what is a truly magical environment. Come and enjoy!

Perfect End to a Perfect Trip

A beautiful, peaceful way to end a busy trip! We stayed our last two nights in Pirque at this lovely home. The house was clean, the landscape was beautiful, we ate fresh fruit right off the trees, and it was quiet. There are incredible views of the Maipo Canyon and lovely patio to sit and relax on. It was truly a wonderful venue and I would love to stay here again!
The only thing I would say is that if you don't like dogs - this may not be the perfect place for you. There are three dogs that are friendly and greet you whenever you are in the yard (it didn't bother me any). They do NOT go in the house though, so you can easily sneak away from them if need be.
The Caretaker and Owners were all wonderful and great to work with. We are very glad we found this beautiful Villa!

As soon as you drive through the gates of this beautiful property you know you have made the right decision. The grounds are lush with nut and fruit trees, flowers and herbs. You first see the beautiful villa the owners call their second home. Then the wonderful property manager greets you and shows you to the guest house you will be relaxing in a little further down the driveway near her home. The guesthouse isn't much from the outside, but once you settle in, you couldn't be happier in this 2 bedroom plus additional exterior 3rd bedroom guesthouse. The inside is comfortable and cozy, the beds are divine, especially as you get to fall asleep to the calming nearby river. The kitchen is fully equipped, even with good quality knives and a French press (difficult to find in Chilean rentals). And the deck is a perfect place to relax as its surrounded by tall trees with peaks of the valley and river. We stayed for 5 nights over Christmas and were served a delicious Christmas dinner in the courtyard by Maria. The owners were beyond accommodating and kind. We would highly recommend Casa Ishi to anyone looking for some rest and relaxation. A rental car is a must!

CAJON DEL MAIPO: just past the entrance of Casa Ishi is where the true beauty of the area begins. Take a drive at least! 2 hours down Ramon Subercaseaux and along Camino Al Volcan to Glacier El Morado (Banos Morales starting point) is a wonderful day hike!

WINERIES
When booking wine tours, make sure you ask details about the wineries. They charge more than other wineries around the world. They also only pour you 2-3 tastings which are about 1/2 a glass of wine, so we regretted having a driver. All below are at least 30 min apart.

Enjoyed-
Concha y Toro: beautiful grounds, very professional & fun tour; large production.
La Aquitana: boutique winery with views of Andes Mtns and city of Santiago. It was only the 3 of us on the tour, unique winery due to its location, and good wine. Highly recommend!
Casa de Bosque: (Casablanca) beautiful and delicious restaurant. The tour was unprofessional, and even with the extended 6 tastings you get less than 1/2 a glass of wine. Instead buy a bottle and sit under the vineyards.

Interesting due to large scale winery, but overpriced-
Santa Rita- massive production, restaurant -rich/heavy food, large portions, bland, expensive.

Wish we didn't go-
Cousino Macul- basically a museum tour and large production. Table quality wine.

A few days in paradise - literally!

My husband and I love to travel, and have decided seeing all the continents before starting a family sounded like a great idea. Why we chose Santiago, I am not sure, but it was a wonderful experience with a very satisfactory ending.

We began our trip in the city, and ended it in paradise at Casa Ishi. This villa was beyond any expectation, and we left with no regrets. Not only was there every fruit tree you could think of - limes, lemons, oranges, apricots, dates - but you can enjoy every one. My husband and I picked apricots, and made apricot preserves to enjoy each morning with toast. We picked fresh green onions from the garden to jazz up our homemade tomato soup. Did I mention the whole chicken we baked in the outdoor oven? This villa is a little slice of heaven in an adorable small town. And not to mention the vineyards just a short drive away. If you are thinking of visiting Santiago, take a couple of days in the city, and then venture to paradise for the remainder of the trip. You can always make day trips to the city, but in the evening enjoy the serene atmosphere on the terrace, listen to the river rush in the background while you watch the sun set in the mountains.

The owners of the property were visiting the same time as we were, and were a delight. They were very helpful in giving directions when we lost our way, and really know their way around the town. They have great tips on where to shop, where to eat, and even what to drink! We had the pleasure of joining them for dinner, taking full opportunity of the scenery, dining outdoors on a meal cooked in the outdoor oven. The caretakers of the property were also very helpful.

Overall, I would come back to Casa Ishi in a heartbeat and would recommend it to everyone I know. It might be a few years, but we hope to come back!

Our private Villa Glorious

We arrived in Santiago late on a summer night. Our driver picked us up & took us to Casa Ishi where we found our villa to be cozy, quiet and clean, just as we had expected. Very charming, our own private villa. The property is gorgeous, trees & trees everywhere. It felt like we were staying at a vineyard. The caretakers, Claudio & Maria (they did not speak English) were sweet and attentive, excellent service, plentiful towels, linens, etc. We visited a few wineries during our week here and found them easy to get to and fantastic. The ride to Santiago was only a half an hour and we then spent a week there after our week here. We mostly ate in and found great produce and seafood in nearby Pirque. I would stay again at this property, I recommend it highly. Also the 3 doggies were so so sweet..............

TRIP OF A LIFETIME TO CASA ISHI! Having travelled the world, I was pleasantly surprised by the beauty and quality of life in CHILE, which came to life for me while I was staying at Casa Ishi.
Casa Ishi is a wonderful vacation home in the Maipo area outside of Santiago. Nestled in the valley with beautiful views and surrounded by gorgeous grounds it is a fabulous place to stay while exploring the wine country, as well as other sites in this region.
Our hosts treated us like royalty and introduced us to the area, giving us the local insider views on where to go and what to do to enjoy the Chilean food, wine and culture. Our villa was spotless and well appointed with all amenities, and the property is a veritable Garden of Eden with places to lounge and eat meals outside as well. I will definitley return and bring friends, as this is a place to make and share memories! Marlene / Los Angeles

The Perfect Four Day Getaway in Chile

  • 5 of 5

We had four days to enjoy a break out of Santiago and Casa Ishi was the perfect venue for us. It is very easy to find directly on the road up the valley only minutes from the center of Pirque, that has many great restaurants and at least one great pastry shop that we managed to visit twice in four days, and less than an hour from Santiago.

Similarly we were able to take advantage of the winery tour and a great lunch at Concha y Toro winery at the last minute as it is within 15 minutes' drive. No end of activities, including recreational pursuits of all kind, are located close by.

Casa Ishi is on beautiful grounds with a super view of the sunset and a perfect place to sleep in with wonderful beds and bedding and a very serene environment, with only the distant rush of the river below to be heard and the occasional bird chirping. The kitchen is well equipped, that made cooking with the local fresh ingredients a pleasurable part of the whole experience.

The caretaker couple, Claudio and Maria, seemed to be always available and helpful when needed but not obtrusive. We appreciated receiving some oranges from them and made some fresh squeezed orange juice from the fruit taken off the trees just in front of our front door!

The owners were very attentive and concerned to make every detail of the stay as perfect as possible, and were particularly gracious with their hospitality. We will certainly be back.

Thank you!

A Chilean Vacation of Peace and Wonder

A glorious stay at Casa Ishi a mere 45 minutes outside of Santiago launched one of the most wonderful trips of a lifetime to Chile. Casa Ishi is not only beautiful and serene, but the privacy of our own lovely home while being introduced to this magnificent country and people left us never wanting to leave. We concentrated on several boutique wineries nearby, and with the owner's help in finding our driver, Mauricio Yanez, and the gracious caretakers of the property, Claudio and Maria, we were treated like royalty. We cannot say enough about this property, the owners, and all associated with it, but we promise you will not regret one moment of your stay at Casa Ishi, and perhaps you will be in tears as we were upon leaving.
