Not Peaceful or Quiet
Submitted: May 13, 2011
Stayed: December 2010
The home was in need of some TLC and cleaning when we rented it in December of 2010.
Dogs barking constantly, dog bit two children while we were there...one child needed medical attention.
Interesting atmosphere with lots to do if you have kids, but not quiet like we thought it would be.
House had cobwebs everywhere and cracks in the walls. TV wasn't working most of the
week and kitchen had ants in the cupboards. Showers were in need of fixing because they dribbled instead of flowed. We could see that at one time, the house was nice, but at the time of our stay the house was falling apart and in need of cleaning. The fridge leaked all over the place too. PS...watch out for the huge speed bump that greets you at the neighborhood turn off, it nearly took our exhaust system off the car and we went over it slowly!
We would not stay here again-the island is known for quiet and the caretaker and his dogs are nothing but noisy. The dogs bark at everything; the caretaker yells at them. The dogs bark again; the caretaker yells at them again! This is the only constant all week. The owner of the house was told of all the repairs that needed done, we even sent pictures-she said she was sorry for our expericences. We rented the boat and it filled with water while we were out on the bay, not good. So many things went wrong that they cannot be listed here. This place is not quiet or secluded-there are about 12 other houses right near you. Beware of the honor bar as well, you pay for your beers, not drink some and then replace later on as most honor bars work. The owner of this house may have fixed all the things we told her about in January, but do your homework and search out other lodgings that are more peaceful. We were very disappointed in the trip. I grew up on Exuma and thought I knew what to expect, boy was I wrong. Be very leary of this neighborhood and this rental house.
Owner's Response: I strongly refute this review. Shortly after these guests rented my home I spoke with them and tried to make them happy. Since then, I made a special trip to my property and spoke to other homeowners in the immediate area to find out if all of these things were really true, if so, I was going to offer them a full refund. First of all, many of the incidents described were simply not true, for example the issue with the dog and the child. Even the parent of the child did not have an issue with the dog. Also, the boat was in working order, evidently, the guests did not understand how the drain hole in the bottom of the boat worked. The real reason that these people were not happy will never be known since they will not return my calls. Some people are just never happy, no matter what you try to do to resolve their complaints. Please see the review of the guests that were recently there in April 2011, and you will see an honest review.
