Great house in a magical location
Five of us stayed for two weeks and we really enjoyed our time here. We were meet by the owner, Maria and her son when we flew into Quito and they took us to their country home in San Pablo. We felt safe at all times and the house was very homely and clean. The roses were amazing.
Our 4 year old grandson had a ball as there was lots for him to do. When he wasn't playing with the caretakers two sons or on the soccer field, slide or swing he loved being with all the animals. Cows, horse, hens and chickens, lambs, rabbits, cats and dogs, they have them all.
We found the location perfect for the many day trips we made. We did not have transport so relied on local taxi's and buses. They were great. Maria is a great host and spent a day showing us round so we got to learn about the local attractions. She took us to Cotacachi village where they make amazing leather goods.
With the help of Marco, the caretaker, we visited many local attractions. San Pablo Lake was only a 20 minute walk away where we also enjoyed a meal. We also went to the Guayabamba Zoo, the Condor Park, Otavalo Markets more than once, Hacienda Cusin and a local waterfall. We also enjoyed many walks in and around San Pablo village and a day hiking to Ibarra.
There's a great variety of food in the village nearby the house and the house kitchen has everything you need to cook for yourself. We had Norma, the caretakers wife prepare us a traditional meal and it was a highlight of our trip. We totally recommend getting Norma to prepare a meal for you. She also does exquisite needle work too that you can purchase.
The caretakers, Marco and Norma were really friendly and helpful and made our stay all the more memorable. Marco willingly accompanied us on our day trips and made sure we paid fair prices for everyting we purchased.
This is a great house, located in a magical place surrounded by all those mountains/volcano's. We unreservedly recommend this property.
