Magnificent Mountain Home Work of Art - A wonderful place to gather friends and family for that special event...A perfect home away from home to relax and soak up the beautiful mountain views ritght along the Pigeon river...Like other luxury mountain top homes, as you approach this home you will appreciate the home’s elevation and obvious beauty. The view is clear and almost forever as you gaze across the expansive vista. However, the similarity to other homes ends as you cross the entry threshold and suffer the complete loss of breath one typically experiences on a first visit to this magnificent work of art. You immediately notice and can never forget the hand carved stair railings and beams, finished and polished by hand but in their natural state. Across a voluminous huge room filled with furniture, windows and light, you notice the hand selected stone fireplace filling the end of the room. A work of art in itself.

Off to the left is a Gourmet’s delight of a kitchen, spacious and filled with granite and stainless and everything necessary to prepare a gourmet meal for two or thirty. As you begin to wander and look, you soon discover that this is the collective work of artisans and old school craftsmen who painstakingly excelled, an owner with a profound appreciation of nature and art combined with an unlimited budget all who collectively felt challenged with the task of building much more than a luxury home, but more a magnificent work of art, the likes of which most people have never had an opportunity to behold. And you among the fortunate are now standing here. As you continue to explore its 6 bedrooms and 5 baths, you remain amazed at the attention to detail framed in the most usual ways, such as a whole tree trunk, hand hollowed and polished to accommodate plumbing for its use as a sink base in lieu of the typical cabinet...One of many unique, small details that you will soon discover as you explore. Tile work abounds everywhere also displaying and embellishing the beauty and uniqueness of this fine work of art. You will discover a wine cellar with a tasting room and a home gym to work out if you have the energy. A steam room, heated bathroom floors, the list goes on and on. A study with a magnificent sound system will draw you in and capture you for hours. The home could virtually be in contention for a Noble Peace Prize for the amount of tranquility it bestows on its visitors if it were not for the continued arousal of curiosity of true art lovers. If you happen to be an architect, designer, builder, curator, art collector, nature lover, you do yourself a disservice by not experiencing this work of art.

And by day, if you wander outside onto the natural stone terrace, you’ll see a commanding view that looks far beyond any horizon or down to a lovely rushing river filled with the sound of water splashing on the rocks. Perhaps tubing or trout fishing kindle your youthful spirit. At night sitting in rocking chairs by a huge outdoor stone fireplace with a glass of wine will kindle your imagination or looking up to the same star filled sky that Van Gogh was so inspired by but a night sky more clear and bright than you’ve ever experienced.

Whatever you do, don’t miss this opportunity to spend a week or two living within a true work of art. Who knows when the Owner may say no more, and it’s gone from all of us forever. In the meantime if you are fortunate enough to stay here, I assure you that you will leave amazed and truly blessed by a memorable experience in this mountain top work of art.

If I could give the house SIX stars I would! It was beyond anything we half way expected. I cannot imagine anyone giving this beautiful house, property, and extreme attention to detail anything less than a 5 Star rating. Every room was unique, the linens down to the soap showed the owners attention to detail. The 1st thing every member of our family had to do was take a tour. It started as soon as we pulled into the driveway and lasted until the last room was visited. Our family had a wonderful time on our visit and hopefully we can come again to visit the "Big House".

The cabin was very nice, but very abnormal things occurred. There is an EXTRA room in the wine cellar. I discovered it when my family and I found the uniquely carved rocking chair that was facing the case on the right side of the wall in the wine cellar. There was strange things in that room... I'm suprised no one has experienced what we did while we were there. We saw a old picture, probably from the 1920's, of a little girl. Right next to the picture there was a monopoly board, It looked as if someone was in the process of playing. It was old as well. There was other things on there i cannot explain. The house was very beautiful, but the supernatural things that happened leave me concerned.

Owner's Response: Thanks for staying with us and giving us a review...!!! We have had nothing but great reviews since we began renting our property, however, nothing has reached the level of supernatural...I am so glad you had a good time and liked our home. We take pride in our home and are constantly trying to improve for all our future guests. We do hope you will come back and stay with us next time in North Carolina and I assure you we will be better than ever...!!!

Great Big House!

I cannot say enough good things about this house! I expected a beautiful house just from looking at the pictures, but then when we actually arrived at the house I was blown away by the size and beauty of it! Plenty of room for our large group ranging from 2 years old to grandparents in their 70's. This house was so well stocked, we brought way more than we needed! A short 45 minute drive to the Polar Express train in Bryson City, and close to shopping and nice restaurants. We cooked big breakfasts and dinners and relaxed by one of the fireplaces at night. It was such a relaxing trip, we hated to leave. We travel to this area frequently and have rented many mountain homes, I can say that this house far exceeds any we have ever stayed in and we hope to return to it!

My family and I had a great time at this awesome house. We enjoyed the view from the porch and marveled at the beautiful craftsmanship of the home. We even caught some bass and bluegill from the river!

Great Time on the River in the BIG HOUSE!

My family and I spent 10 days here and it was great. The weather was perfect and so were the accommodations. We spent time in the house cooking great meals in the chief kitchen and playing pool in the basement. Outside, we spent around the fire at night and by day, catching bass and bluegill in the river.

We just spent a wonderful week in your home. The views were spectacular and it was oh so peaceful. The house is nicely appointed - the pool table was in constant use! Also, nice to have tables big enough for our crew of 14. Our only disappointment was no real river access. We were looking forward to playing and tubing. But that was just a minor thing.

Thank you for the wine. It was a nice treat.

Spacious mountain retreat with great owners

We had a great time at this mountain retreat. A great place to relax and unwind, especially if you're escaping from city life. Views of the neighbor's cows, stream and ridgeline from the back porch are amazing, and the outdoor fireplace kept us out and enjoying the fresh air late into the night. Plenty of room for big groups or famiilies, we had 8 adults and 5 kids with no problems, and bedrooms to spare when you include the garage guest bedroom. The kids loved playing on the sectional sofa in the entertainment room, sleeping there together most nights. The huge kitchen on the main floor was great for preparing big meals, and the downstairs kitchen made it easy to use the outdoor grill.

One highlight of our stay was discovering a bluebird's nest in one of the back porch pillars, home to 5 hungry bluebird chicks, who would open their mouths and peep whenever we peeked in, thinking it was one of their parents returning with a meal.

Last but not least, the consideration and helpfulness of the owners was great! They definitely went the extra mile to make us comfortable, bringing over a coffee grinder so we could enjoy the beans we brought with us.
Owner's Response: Great reviews makes my heart sing and lets me know we are doing it right...!!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts...they mean a lot to us...

Our mountain retreat

It's difficult to find enough adjectives to describe our exceptional 6-night stay at the beautifully appointed "Big House." The pictures provided do not even come close to capturing what your senses will feel as you explore this property. We held an elegant and private wedding ceremony on the impeccably landscaped grounds with amazing mountain views as the backdrop. The experience was truly breathtaking and will be cherished for years to come by all that attended, but especially for me and my beautiful bride.

The property comfortably housed our group of 14; 9 adults, 2 older teens and 3 smaller children. More than enough space for everyone to enjoy some privacy if needed, but comfortable enough to make it feel homey as well. The house was well stocked with essentials; towels, blankets, pillows, kitchen accessories. Speaking of the kitchen... which was amazing! On the day of the wedding we had a private chef prepare our wedding meal, she and her assistant both commented on how beautiful it was, how well stocked it was and the quality of the equipment it had.

With a Verizon mobile hotspot located in the grand kitchen, cell reception was good (2-4 bars, not bad for an AT&T customer), as was the ability to use any of the 3 iPads that made the trip.

No need to over-pack either. With the high efficiency washer and dryer in the laundry room, as well as an ironing board and iron, half of the clothes I brought along were never worn. The same was true for the rest of the group.

There was plenty on-site activities to keep the kids occupied; some toys are kept on hand, ping-pong table and pool table as well. Of course sitting by the fire and making S'mores always makes them happy...adults too! If you find it necessary, there are also plenty of TV's...but you're in the mountains, enjoy it, you can watch TV at home. But the thing I may miss the most is waking up and enjoying a cup of coffee watching the morning mist hang over the mountains before the sun burns it off. Simply beautiful.

Thank you Thad!
