Great couple's getaway- we'll be back!

Great couple's getaway- we'll be back!

My boyfriend, my dog, and I (with owner's permission to bring the dog) came to the cottage to have a quiet little weekend getaway from the city.
*The cottage- small but efficient, nicely decorated in a transitional/modern style and very clean. There were big windows everywhere and high ceilings that really make great use of the space- my boyfriend is 6'5" and felt comfortable there! There was a loft (reachable by ladder) that you can't see in the picture. It had a sofa/couch and a 1/2 bath that is small, but usable for smaller people or kids. The kitchen and bath are also smaller but well-organized and with good materials, although the shower did leak a bit- nothing that couldn't be remedied with an extra bath mat, which they had. There was also a washer and dryer, which is nice, and the large TV over the fireplace had Netflix streaming set up.
*The setting- You really feel a sense of privacy and peace there- it's like you're in your own little canyon. The waterfall was really great, the sound was so soothing! We enjoyed hearing AND seeing it. The hot tub on the well-built deck (with eating area too) was also nice, very hot and pretty heavily chlorinated, but that's to be expected. There were beautiful flowers and trees all over- the landscaping was gorgeous. My dog LOVED the rock pond, and she swam a lot but the water was still a bit low for the humans to consider going in, it seemed kind of murky too. Note that the location is VERY remote! There are several gravel roads you have to take to get there, and the driveway to/from the cottage was very steep- we got stuck the first time.
*The property manager was very nice and helpful, including showing us how to drive my car out of the property (steep gravel road!). He answered any emails or phone calls very quickly.
*We didn't get to see a lot of the area although there did seem like some nice attractions nearby. The next time we go we will definitely stay longer.

WOW is all I can say. The pictures don't do it justice!!! The pond is amazing...the stone formations on one side look spectacular! Our stay was really nice, the cabin and deck are really modern! I would definitely recommend this cabin and can't wait to go back in the summer!

Wonderful little place!

We had a wonderful two-night stay at the cabin, which is beautifully finished inside and out, with a fully equipped kitchen (we cooked all of our meals, including use of the oven, stove, toaster, electric kettle--there was also a blender and coffee maker). The layout of the main floor is well done and gives two people plenty of room. We were there at the absolute limits of what the cabin could take in terms of low temperatures--it was in the teens the whole time, which is unusual for Virginia--and the heater strained a bit to keep the place warm, but between it and the fire it did keep up. The hot tub was great--ready for us on arrival and completely fine through the cold snap. The owner answered questions instantaneously via text and voicemail.

The setting for the cabin in a small hollow meant that it was completely private--we could see the lights of another cabin in the distance and one house peeks over the hill, but these both were far enough away that you feel like you're all alone. The deer and foxes that wandered through the hollow in the morning and evening added to the effect!

The road getting to the farm hadn't been regraded in awhile and so involved a range of holes and washboard patches; the driveway down to the cabin had been recently graveled, and so was fine, although do be aware that there is an extremely steep section of the driveway which we just managed to get back up in our car, drawing on our experience driving mountain roads. It should be fine most times of year, but in deeper snow (we had 1-2 inches), ice, or mud it would be difficult. Both road and driveway were navigable in a regular car, but this is something to keep in mind.

Overall this place is wonderful! We recommend it for a quiet getaway.

Perfect weekend getaway

This little cottage could not have been more perfect. It is a case study in how to impeccably design and appoint a small, comfortable space. My boyfriend and I came here for a relaxing weekend after the craziness of election season. It was exactly what we needed - quiet, peaceful, cozy. We enjoyed the fireplace and hot tub and wandering through the woods and grilling on the deck. A perfect weekend got even better when he proposed next to the firepit under a starry sky with the waterfall in the background! Thank you for sharing this special place with us! We can't wait to go back.

Perfect Hideway Escape ...

This cottage was the most perfect place I have been for a weekend ever. Completely hidden from view, with a private pond, deck, and walking distance to the River. And yet 10 minutes from the grocery store, I-66. and 15 minutes to the entrance of Shenandoah National Park. We were in heaven. Frank is very attentive to every detail, and yet one can communicate by text/email so as not to break the sanctity of having completely escaped from talking to any other human for the weekend. We prepared meals in the cottage, slept soundly, and loved, loved, loved the natural setting, with 360 views out of the windows. I travel around the world, and yet this is the closest I have found to paradise in a long time.

I can't describe it using one word, it is so beautiful, peaceful. A true paradise on earth. I love it. My husband and I spent one day there during day time. It is one of the best times we have ever. The house is cozy, clean, great design. It’s not big, but you get everything you need. The owner Frank is so nice and accessible. For sure I will come back again.

Our stay was a birthday surprise for my husband. We had a wonderful, relaxing visit at the Pond Cottage. The waterfall was awesome! What a great design! We watched out the window from the bed as the sun came up as some deer came across the hill above the waterfall to graze. Really enjoyed walking the trail down to the river. So many wonderful huge old trees. The property is beautiful! The cottage is very clean and had everything we needed and more. The owner was very accommodating. We look forward to staying again. Frank, thank you for sharing your cozy cottage.

Loved the cottage. It is comfy and cozy. There are great views all around the house. Loved the idea of the bed, and the jacuzzi. Also the water fall is a great touch and relaxing noise! Not far from stores. Very quiet around house. Frank was easy to get a hold of, if needed.

Great Getaway

Thank you Frank, for a great getaway. The bungalow is adorable and a perfectly tranquil retreat! The steep driveway was a bit tricky at first in my husbands compact manual car, but we managed. We enjoyed the geese and turtles that visited daily, as well as the seranade of the frogs at night. Truly a relaxing weekend!
