Photos and Description of the Port Mouton vacation house rental
House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6-12)

Crow's Nest is situated at the head of Port Mouton harbor on the water's edge. A modern waterfront getaway, the building started over a century ago as a couple fish houses, which were then joined together to become the local general store until a couple years ago. Over 2006-2008, Crow's Nest was fully gutted and rebuilt, and now offers a modern vacation getaway unlike any other in the region, including a wharf/dock, a tower, lots of space, and a location as unique as the property itself.

The Layout -

The first floor consists of a large open living area (kitchen, dining, and living), recreation room, bedroom, full bath, laundry room, and systems room. The living area has an Ikea kitchen with soapstone counters, and all modern amenities. Adjacent to this is an expandable dinner table which comfortably seats 6-10. For large gatherings an additional table provides seating for an additional 4-6.

This second table overlooks the harbor entrance and is a favorite spot for playing cards or afternoon tea.

There are two living areas, the first is centered about a gas fireplace under a raised ceiling and adjacent to the deck and water. A daybed here includes a trundle bed underneath, and thus can be used to sleep two. The second living area centers on the television (cable provided). Overall, there is plenty of space for relaxing, with areas for kids and adults to spread out together or separately. The first floor also has a bedroom with a bunk bed and dresser which sleeps 2-3. The bottom bed can form a couch or unfold to provide a queen size sleeping platform.

The first floor bath has a sink, toilet, and full shower. A separate access is provided from the deck next to the extra outdoor shower, great for rinsing off after a day at the beach.

The laundry area is provided behind a sliding 'barn door' (great for quickly hiding things!), and equipped with a heavy duty frontloading washer and dryer.

The second floor is reached through a central staircase which leads to the 'chart room'. This area has open balconies to the first floor, and includes a small couch ideal for an afternoon nap or for reading on a rainy day. The master bedroom includes a separate dressing area, cathedral ceiling, gas fireplace/stove, queen-size bed, and an awesome view out to the harbor, bay, and sunrise. The second floor bathroom (accessible from both the master suite and chart room) has dual sinks, a shower big enough for two, and a 'throne' with a killer view! The second upstairs bedroom is large and contains a queen size bed, two twin beds, plus a child sized bed. It overlooks the reversing falls, and sleeping with the windows open to the sound of the water rushing is most restful.

The Tower is up a circular staircase in the chart room,

and provides sweeping views of the harbor and the pond/marsh behind the reversing falls. Not only is it the place to be for morning coffee or evening cocktails, it also has a sailor?s hammock that allows the room to double as an additional bedroom.

The Location

Crow's Nest is located in the center of the fishing village of Central Port Mouton, positioned between a small lobster/fish/seaweed buying operation and a causeway that creates a reversing falls. Close by are numerous white sand beaches, two supermarkets, lots of restaurants, museums, and other diversions.

The house has a deck overlooking the reversing falls and the harbor which provides an enclosed, gated area perfect for sunbathing, barbeques, and just hanging out. The area near the bathroom is enclosed and includes an outdoor shower and seating area for changing into bathing suits and such.

The large wharf is essentially the back yard of the property.

We couldn't be more happy with our stay at the crows nest. Everything was beyond perfect. Beautiful, clean, well kept in doors and out. The owners were so friendly and gave us lots of ideas for things to do during our stay. I would most definitely reccommend the crows nest to everyone.
stationed between two of the most beautiful beaches, carters beach and Summerville beach. We went for dinner twice at the Quarterdeck restaurant, about a 10 minute drive down the road where the food is excellent!
It was definitely a "home away from home" and we would love to return.
Owner's Response: We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and we hope to see you returning next summer!

This quiet picturesque getaway offers comfortable accommodations with harbor views. We couldn't have asked for a better place to be headquartered to explore the quaint town of Port Mouton and the coastlines beyond. Nature surrounds the property and entertained us 24/7 -- from the fishing boats and seaweed haulers to the movement of the tides in and out of the waterway into the nearby salt water pond filled with birds and other wildlife.
The deck off the living room provided a sunny spot to relax or sip wine as we cooked dinner on the BBQ. Access to the wharf and the water was just off the deck. The open area of the living room, dining room and kitchen living room had comfortable spots to curl up with a book and the 360 views from the crow's nest couldn't be beat. Spiral staircase might be a challenge for the very young and elderly.
Very clean and well-maintained.
Car is a necessity to buy groceries. Kayaks give instant access to water fun.
