Located on Mariner’s Basin of San Diego’s world famous Mission Bay Park, in desirable South Mission Beach on the quieter, wind-protected bay side. Just steps across a narrow peninsula to the Pacific Ocean side of Mission Beach. Stunning views of the bay from all rooms in the front of the unit. Sea World fireworks light up the night sky across the bay. Sleeps up to 5. Bed linens, pillows, blankets and towels provided. A small commercial area is one block away that includes 1 Italian restaurant, 2 fast food establishments (1 pizza and one Mexican food), a liquor store, a grocery store, 2 pubs and a laundromat.

I am a retired international marketing executive who lives in the building on the floor below Mariner's Lookout.
We are a third generation San Diego family on our mother's side. Our late father was a Pediatrician who was born and raised in the Mid-West.
Our parents purchased this property, a tri-plex in 1959 when they realized that they had been crazy to take Summer vacations driving across the country through scorching deserts to get to hot, humid, thunder storm prone, mosquito-infested places after they had just left the best place to vacation that they knew.
The Mid-Western relatives could visit us instead.
We used the downstairs unit as a Summer home until 1974, when our parents sold the house in central San Diego (only about 5 miles away) and moved to the beach house as their permanent home. Two of my three brother's live near by-- one in the building's third unit and the other at the south end of Mariner's Basin.
My brothers and I can be tremendous resources for information about San Diego. Between us, we have about 250 years of experience of living in San Diego.
But we are cautious about leaving our tenants in peace. We will make a friendly greeting, let you know that we are at your disposal for information, then leave it to you to ask for what you want.

Fun spot
When Laura mentions the property being dated, we think she is referring mostly to the bathroom and kitchen which are tiled with two-tone tile of the late 40s early 50s vintage. The tile and grout in both rooms are clean and well maintained. The bathroom tub and kitchen sink have been resurfaced with modern white epoxy coating, which adds to the clean look. We could have updated with marble and granite. But most of our guests like Laura appreciate the nostalgia of that two-toned tile which many of us had in the homes we grew up in.
She could also be referring to the windows, which are metal framed with hand crank operators of the same era as the tiles. They are fully functional. We have kept and maintained them for the same reason-- to preserve that classic 40s and 50s look.
But our 50 " HDTV with cable connection and our Wi-fi and ethernet internet connections are modern and state of the art.

Excellent choice
The position of Mariner's Lookout is ideal. Imagine waking up each morning and being able to look out at the beautiful bay. The beach was steps away and there were a few basic shops and take aways convenient to the rental. We had to rely on public transport to a certain extent and it was a short walk along the bay to the bus stop.
I would not hesitate in recommending this rental and I hope we get to stay there again ourselves.
Peaceful, clean and convenient with stunning Bay views!
The listing photos are very accurate. The kitchen and bath are small and older, but serviceable. Everything is very clean. The views from the living room, dining area, and kitchen are beautiful. I could watch my daughter on the beach while I was inside and even see the Sea World Summer Night fireworks every night from the front windows. Of course, it was more fun to watch them from the beach!
The owner was very nice and was concerned that we had everything we needed. He even provided us with a nice welcome basket with fruit, cheese, wine, and crackers!
Since parking is at a premium in the beach area, it was wonderful to have a personal space right outside the door.
I would definately recommend this property to anyone looking for a peaceful, pleasant, beach vacation!
