Rustic cabin on pristine Torsey Pond in Readfield/Mt. Vernon, part of the Cobbossee watershed. Log cabin is completely furnished and has hot & cold running water, toilet, shower, electric stove, refrigerator. 2 bedrooms. One bedroom has a queen bed, one has 1 bunk bed and 1 single bed. Dock, floating raft on lake. Beautiful crystal clear water with sandy rocky bottom and deep enough to dive off dock. Non-motorized boats can be hand-launched from the dock in the front yard. Motor boats must be launched from the opposite end of the lake (5 miles' drive). People catch small and large mouth bass, brown trout, white and yellow perch, sunfish, pickerel and now PIKE. Plenty of wildlife, mink, loons, osprey and eagles and the occasional moose.

Cabin is part of a family compound; neighbors are 50 yards away. Dogs are OK but must be leashed outdoors. Bring your own sheets and towels. No smokers, please.

Our week here was the perfect vacation -- from the moment we turned off onto the dirt road that took us to the property, we knew we'd gotten very lucky. The owners were friendly and accommodating, the cabin was beautiful and clean, and there wasn't a single day when we didn't swim in the lovely, pristine lake at least three times. We especially loved the open kitchen, where we cooked every meal -- no small feat for two New Yorkers used to tiny kitchens and take-out -- and going to sleep at night hearing nothing but the loons outside. I can't imagine a better place to take a break from work, television, internet, phone, and all the other distractions of life.
