Fabulous cottage, could be even better

We stayed for four nights. Six of us shared; four singles and a couple. We went to the Blue Lagoon straight from the airport, as it is close, and then loaded up on food shopping and drove to the cottage. Be prepared for a difficult drive in the winter with black ice and nothing for miles around. Also, you can expect the drive to take longer than claimed; it took us three hours.
Pros – it is close to Geyser, a 15/20 minute walk to see the geysers and there is also a hotel and gift shop with café. It is only a short drive to the impressive waterfall Gulfoss. It is also within driving distance to a large national park.
The cottage itself is clean, warm and cosy and looks picture postcard perfect. You are miles from anywhere and the vastness is impressive. The hot tub is a nice feature although be prepared for it to take longer than claimed to fill up.
We had good views of the Northern Lights, particularly from the mezzanine level bedroom.
There are a selection of DVDs and magazines, enough kitchenware (just) and towels and despite instructions to bring our own there was also toilet roll.
The cottage owner is genuinely lovely. She came to meet us in Reykjavik where we stayed for our last night in Iceland.
Cons – There was no wi-fi in the cottage as claimed, this was one of the selling points for us and a disappointment. It resulted in additional costs as we had to buy bundles from our providers to stay in contact with work/home. We did contact the cottage owner but she was not able to help.
There is little privacy for the guests staying in the mezzanine, you can see up there from the living area, ideal for children perhaps but not a couple.
There wasn’t much information provided about the cottage as expected, little information provided beforehand, vague directions and little information about where to buy supplies. Be warned there are no shops nearby and the nearest supermarket is Selfoss – a 200K round trip!. There was no information on local attractions once we arrived, or even where to find things in the cottage. We blagged it and it was fine but it could be a simple improvement with maximum impact.
The kitchen area is tiny and the very small draining board makes it difficult to do the amount of washing up six people generate, we took it in shifts! Also the shower didn’t provide enough water for six people all to shower in the morning.
In summary it is a very nice cottage but could be even better with improvement communication. Thank you.
Owner's Response: Thank you for posting your review, I am really sorry about the wifi, it has always been working but sometimes the connection can be very slow. Something was clearly wrong and I deeply apologize. I sent the driving directions along with the agreement and on there I tell that we recommend you shop for groceries before you go to the cottage in Reykjavik or Hveragerdi, next town from Reykjavik. In Reykholt and Laugarvatn is a small grocery store only 20 minute drive. The loft is an open area and I will be more specific about that in the advertisement and fix it right away. From Keflavik to the cottage is 150 km, nonstop drive takes about 2 hours, but during winter time I imagine it could take longer with slippery roads and it being dark.
I will do my best to make improvements in the cottage and take all your remarks into consideration, so the next time you come back you will enjoy your stay even more!! Thank you for the nice comments and for showing me the fantastic pictures you took of the Northern Lights, it was a pleasure meeting all of you in Reykjavik.
Most kind regards, Kristin
