Peaceful Iceland!

My family and I (wife and two little girls) had a fantastic 6 day stay in this wonderful cottage. The setting was absolutely stunning, surrounded by mountains, rivers and beautiful landscape. We picked up groceries in Selfoss, drove 50 minutes and easily found the cottage. We were able to get milk, bread, cereal and a few staples in Laugarvartn, but a good idea to stock upin Seloss.
The girls loved the hot tub and were in and out multiple times, despite the snow surrounding the cottage. We spent quiet nights in the comfortable cottage, reading books and dozing off on the couches. It is definitely the cure if you're feeling tired, and overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of daily life! We spent our days exploring Geysir, Gulfoss, Laugarvartn (we had a fantasic time at Fontana there), as well as many other spots. Honestly, you could just drive wherever you wanted - get out, and walk around and you'd be in awe.
I've travelled all over this world, and rarely do I have the urge to return to anywhere I've gone (because there's so much still to see!), but Iceland - and this cottage - is one place that we're already talking about returning to. It really is like no place we've ever been. Thanks again, and we look forward to returning one day!
Owner's Response: Thank you Pat and family for such nice words,
Words can not describe how I feel reading your review, Its a blessing for us to be able to share our cottage with our foreign guests, it was a pleasure to have you over and you are always welcome back.

We booked this cottage for our 4 day stay in Iceland and were not disappointed! Iceland itself is a unique and amazing country and this cottage retreat was the ideal place for us to relax, unwind and use as a cosy base from which to explore. Everything we needed and more was available in the cottage and it felt luxurious to have so much space just for the 2 of us! The cottage is great value for money, especially compared to hotel prices in Reykjavik. We found it easily thanks to the directions that Kristin the owner emailed to us ahead of our arrival and although we did not meet her in person, she was incredibly warm and helpful during our correspondence about our trip. We loved the cottage location and were disciplined in getting up early to beat any other tourists to the main attractions of Geysir and Gulfoss nearby. We were also able to do manageable day trips in our hired car to Pingvellir, Reykjavik, Jokulsarlon, and the waterfalls around the south west coast. The latter was a long drive but well worth it! The hot tub was a lovely addition (and we now fully understand why it isn't a jacuzzi - a jacuzzi would ruin the peace and quiet out here!). Our only "grumble" was that we didn't stay longer! We will definitely be back to Iceland - there is so much still to see that we will be torn between staying in the cottage again and hiring a camping van to enable us to cover more of this beautiful country! :)
Owner's Response: Thank you, lovely people..
I am so happy you enjoyed your stay, You saw so many things that my country has to offer in not so many days, Well done! I really hope you can visit us again.
Warm greetings from us here in Iceland, Kristin and Bjarni

It was awesome !!!!

We stayed at this fantastic cottage for a week in February and had the best holiday ever !! The cottage was all we wanted and in a superb location. For a family of four it was perfect but there was lots of space for more family or friends. It was warm, clean, cosy and the beds were really comfy. The hot tub is amazing - and when it snows you don't have to go in for more ice for your drink! We spent nearly every night out there - and the kids especially loved it. The cottage also had everything we needed.
The location of the cottage is perfect for seeing all the sights of the golden circle - with Geysir and Gullfoss particularly close. Thingvellir is a short drive away, as are many other amazing scenes. There is a great geothermal pool not too far away in Borg - you can swim, sauna or relax in the a hot tub in the dark. There is also a hot LAKE in Laughvatn, as well as a superb infinity pool and steam rooms.
Kristin was really helpful following our initial enquiry and gave us plenty of information prior to our stay. She met us when we arrived at the cottage and made us feel very welcome. The information in the cottage is also really helpful. The drive from the airport was entertaining in the snow (4 wheel drive recommended in the Winter) - but the directions excellent - particularly the photos of the signs to help us find our way. Had it not been dark when we arrived it would also have been an amazing journey because of the views and the scenery. It is stunning. Reykjavik is close enough for a day trip, as is the coast.
We cannot recommend this cottage highly enough. We loved every minute and to top it off we had three amazing nights of Northern Lights - as there is no light pollution at the cottage the light show was outstanding. We also saw the biggest shooting star we've ever seen, whilst sat in the hot tub - it really doesn't get better than this - book now!
Owner's Response: Thank you dear Tony and family for choosing our cottage and for the kind words, it was a pleasure meeting you all, and nice to hear about all your adventures. Hope you will come back soon!!
Sincerely, Kristin and Bjarni

Amazing Stay at an unforgettable location!

Myself and 3 friends stayed at the cottage from 07/01/13-11/01/2013 and I can't recommend the cottage enough- We arrived to a very warm welcome and some delicious nibbles which were very much appreciated after our flight/drive from Reykjavik.

Geysir and Gullfoss were literally just down the road, and Pingvellar/Fontana Spa and Selfoss were all just a short drive away. We all adored the hot tub and sitting in there after a long day's exploring, gazing up at the stars was a fantastic experience!

The cottage was very cosy, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen was very well-appointed. We all had an amazing time in Iceland and it was superb to be able to chill out and relax in this wonderful cottage before some crazy nights out in Reykjavik ;)

Thank you for a lovely stay!
Owner's Response: Thank you Linzi for such lovely words, it was nice meeting all of you and good to know you enjoyed your holiday, I want to thank you as well for leaving the cottage so tidy.
You are most welcome again!!

Fabulous cottage, could be even better

We stayed for four nights. Six of us shared; four singles and a couple. We went to the Blue Lagoon straight from the airport, as it is close, and then loaded up on food shopping and drove to the cottage. Be prepared for a difficult drive in the winter with black ice and nothing for miles around. Also, you can expect the drive to take longer than claimed; it took us three hours.
Pros – it is close to Geyser, a 15/20 minute walk to see the geysers and there is also a hotel and gift shop with café. It is only a short drive to the impressive waterfall Gulfoss. It is also within driving distance to a large national park.
The cottage itself is clean, warm and cosy and looks picture postcard perfect. You are miles from anywhere and the vastness is impressive. The hot tub is a nice feature although be prepared for it to take longer than claimed to fill up.
We had good views of the Northern Lights, particularly from the mezzanine level bedroom.
There are a selection of DVDs and magazines, enough kitchenware (just) and towels and despite instructions to bring our own there was also toilet roll.
The cottage owner is genuinely lovely. She came to meet us in Reykjavik where we stayed for our last night in Iceland.
Cons – There was no wi-fi in the cottage as claimed, this was one of the selling points for us and a disappointment. It resulted in additional costs as we had to buy bundles from our providers to stay in contact with work/home. We did contact the cottage owner but she was not able to help.
There is little privacy for the guests staying in the mezzanine, you can see up there from the living area, ideal for children perhaps but not a couple.
There wasn’t much information provided about the cottage as expected, little information provided beforehand, vague directions and little information about where to buy supplies. Be warned there are no shops nearby and the nearest supermarket is Selfoss – a 200K round trip!. There was no information on local attractions once we arrived, or even where to find things in the cottage. We blagged it and it was fine but it could be a simple improvement with maximum impact.
The kitchen area is tiny and the very small draining board makes it difficult to do the amount of washing up six people generate, we took it in shifts! Also the shower didn’t provide enough water for six people all to shower in the morning.
In summary it is a very nice cottage but could be even better with improvement communication. Thank you.
Owner's Response: Thank you for posting your review, I am really sorry about the wifi, it has always been working but sometimes the connection can be very slow. Something was clearly wrong and I deeply apologize. I sent the driving directions along with the agreement and on there I tell that we recommend you shop for groceries before you go to the cottage in Reykjavik or Hveragerdi, next town from Reykjavik. In Reykholt and Laugarvatn is a small grocery store only 20 minute drive. The loft is an open area and I will be more specific about that in the advertisement and fix it right away. From Keflavik to the cottage is 150 km, nonstop drive takes about 2 hours, but during winter time I imagine it could take longer with slippery roads and it being dark.

I will do my best to make improvements in the cottage and take all your remarks into consideration, so the next time you come back you will enjoy your stay even more!! Thank you for the nice comments and for showing me the fantastic pictures you took of the Northern Lights, it was a pleasure meeting all of you in Reykjavik.

Most kind regards, Kristin

An Amazing Cottage in a perfect location

This cottage was wonderful, it's in an amazing location and much easier to get to than we first thought. The views from the cottage are wonderful and we were lucky enough to see a meteor shower and the norther lights. I cannot recommend this place enough, it is close enough to walk to the Geyser and about a 15 drive from the amazing waterfall. The owner was so lovely and helpful and we will definitely look to go back to Iceland again. Thank you for such an amazing stay.
Owner's Response: Thank you Sarah, its been a pleasure having you and your friends over the Atlantic. Im so glad you got to see the amazing northern lights and the meteor shower is a bonus. You are most welcome again.

An amazing Christmas holiday experience

After a slightly daunting drive to the cottage on icy roads in the dark we were so impressed by the lovely cottage in the secluded valley. Have already recommended the cottage to other friends looking to holiday in Iceland and would love to return again. Cottage is cosy, has great facilities, is very close to Geysir & not far from Gullfoss as well as having one of the most helpful & friendly owners I have ever met. Watching the Northern Lights each night and seeing a meteor shower whilst in the hot tub was something I will never forget & words can not come close to describing.
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for choosing our cottage for your stay in Iceland, you are such pleasant and positive guests and it was really nice meeting you. Hope to see you again ...you are always welcome, Have a very merry Christmas and may peace be with you.
Kind regards, Kristin and Bjarni

Fantastic Holiday

The Cottage was really lovely and the hot tub enjoyed by everyone. The area we were in was fantastic with Geysir, Gulfoss and Thingvellir National Park so close. We certainly had a very full week and included white water rafting, a jet boat river trip and of course the blue lagoon. Our only warning is that we felt that things looked closer than they were! Our trip to Jokulsarlon was phenomenal but a very long way!
Overall our cottage was a perfect place to return to and Gestur was always helpful with clear directions and answers to our questions.
A fantastic holiday and very memorable one.
We would highly recommend this cottage as a base for a family summer holiday - Iceland was amazing!

We had a fantastic stay at Geysir cottage. Set in a wonderful, quiet valley, the cottage was cosy, warm and comfortable. My husband, 2 sons and their wives and my 8 month old grandson all fitted in quite comfortably. The property exceeded expectations - it was clean and welcoming, especially after a long day travelling around Iceland's fantastic scenery.
Geysirs, waterfalls, glaciers, an iceberg filled lake, strangely shaped rocks rising out of huge surf, black sands and a totally unexpected sighting of 2 snowy white arctic foxes have made us book another Icelandic jaunt next year.
Gestur was extremely helpful and friendly - this is one of the reasons we are returning as quickly as we can.
There are good restaurants and friendly reasonably priced cafes, supermarkets stock all you require.
The blue lagoon is unreal but the local spa was also great fun too. Hot tub was a very welcome finale to our busy days.
Iceland is a lot bigger than I expected, so to get the most out of it, a hire car is essential.
Owner's Response: What can we say to such nice words! Thank you.!
We are now planning you next stay :)
We will have some fun!

Geysir Cottage, Iceland

5 of 5
Submitted: June 26, 2011 Stayed: June 2011
Iceland is a fantastic holiday destination for so many reasons but to really enjoy the experience your holiday accomodation must be part of, contribute to and complement the whole experience.

Geysir Cottage does this in no uncertain terms. The living area is massive with soft luxurious leather sofas and arm chair, large coffee table, TV / DVD /CD player, books, large dinner table, and ample fully equipped kitchen area. Not to mention an area where you could dance, should you so wish. Off this area are two bedrooms and the bathroom. One bedroom has a king size bed the other two singles both rooms have all the bedding you could need. The bathroom has an illuminated vanity unit, plenty of storage and a lovely hot shower. The upstairs area is large and open suitable for a children's play area or additional sleeping accomodation for which equipment is provided.

On our arrival the cottage was clean and ready for our stay. Everything needed was there, available and ready for our use. Truely warm comfortable home from home.

Geysir Cottage is built and equipped to an extremely high standard making an eminently suitable holiday home in an amazing part of Iceland. You must see the geo thermal area from which the cottage gets its name, its equally awesome. There is so much to see and do around and about and after a long, tiring day you come home to luxury complete with hot tub in which you can unwind.
