Hidden gem

Berit & Merethe Denmark
Review Submitted: July 18, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Guide books often talk of hidden gems. For us the hidden gem was Dar Aicha. We so enjoyed our stay in this wonderful house. The location is perfect, right in the colourful souk and at the same time just around the corner from Jemma el Fna. Outside the house the streets are buzy and full of life, while the inside is tranquil and luxourious. The interior is stylish, comfortable, and clean.
We especially enjoyed the sun roof terrace and our spacious bedrooms. One small point is that there were a few very fierce mosquitos, so we recommend bringing a mosquitonet with you or some reppellent.

Samir and Madam Zahra are kind and very helpful. Samir took time to explain the marrocan way of life for us and helped us with taxis and other practicalities. He also arranged our trips to Essaouira and the Atlas mountains with its breathtaking views.
We highly recommend that you consult Samir on your trips outside of Marrakech.
We regret that we only had dinner in the house a couple of times, as Madam Zarahs cooking, in our experience, is the best in Marrackech.
Owner's Response: WE think the house is a hidden gem! How lovely that our guests think the same and that our helpful and friendly staff play such a part in maximising our visitors' enjoyment of this special place.

Short Break Marrakech

Gavin Gardiner worcester
Review Submitted: November 24, 2009 Date of Stay: November 2009
This property was all that had been promised and expected. It was airy, spacious, clean and with a roof terrace offering privacy and tranquility from the madness that is Marrakech. The local contact Samir was very helpful and courteous and the housekeeper/cook - Madam Zara was both attentive in a maternal manner and an excellent cook. The property is easy to find, is right in the Souk but only 2 minutes from the square

Chic hideaway

We had a really good time at Dar Aicha last week. It was lovely to be so close to the Djemma el Fnaa and right in the middle of the markets. We made friends with the carpet seller on the corner, straight out of the Arabian Nights, who effortlessly persuaded us to buy one of his rugs. The house was lovely, enhanced by the owner's mosaics all around the walls and on the furniture. it is a perfect space for displaying them, and the cool pale walls echo the colours of the designs.
Mme Zahra’s cooking was absolutely delicious. We meant to try a restaurant but somehow always found our way home for dinner; it was the best way to experience real Moroccan cooking, and to introduce the children to new tastes.
Samir could not have been more helpful; the house was clean and well maintained; and we had a very restful holiday. October is a perfect month to come: warmth and sunshine but no mosquitoes.
Thanks to all.

Perfect - Thankyou

Review Submitted: October 26, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
Just a little note to say thankyou for allowing us to stay in your beautiful riad in the heart of Marrakech. The Riad is perfectly located just a couple of minutes walk from Jema El Fna and the bustling Souks and yet provides an oasis of calm. Finding such a lovely (and reasonably priced) Riad for exclusive use was just perfect as not everyone wants to share a house with two young children! The travel cot was much apreciated and makes travelling with a toddler that bit easier. We had a really lovely couple of days and it was the perfect finish to our holiday in Morrocco. Madam Zara and Samir looked after us really well.
Thankyou and we will certainly recommend you to friends.
Owner's Response: It's been great having you and your children. Hope you'll be able to come for longer next time. MS

A jewel in the heart of Merrakech

Mike & Alison United Kingdom
Review Submitted: January 24, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
A beautiful oasis of calm away from the world is just through an unassuming door of the souks.
inside it is as beautiful as the photographs suggest, authentically traditional but with mod cons.
A fantastic sun roof terrace, and luxurious bedrooms, it is a real stunner visually. Clean, tidy and spacious.
One small point is that there are acouple of tiny areas of damp on the walls. But the whole place is open to the elements via the central courtyard, which is wonderous on a sunny day.
Samir and Madam Zahra are truly fantastic, samir is gracious and willing to help in anything, arranging taxis, changing currency, explaining things etc etc. Madam Z is a first class cook, her dishes are absolutely mouth watering and there's always plenty. They are unrivalled in their approach to making sure your stay runs smoothly.
I would recommend this place to anyone wishing to have a stay in a traditional dar in Merrakech.
You are about a 3-4 minute walk from the legendary D'jemma el fna, where all the evening entertainment takes place, and you can catch taxis and horse drawn caleches to other sites.
A great holiday, great weather, superb service and a beautiful place to stay.
Owner's Response: It is such a pleasure when people take the time to review the house after their stay. Makes it all worthwhile. Thank you, Mike and Alison.

Amazing and Exotic Experience

Elaine & Ron Orlando Florida
Review Submitted: June 13, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
Dar Aicha proved to be even better than the description. The location was perfect, step out to the souks,or take a short stroll to Jemaa el Fna. We made full use of the home, from lounging on the rooftop, and listening to the call to prayer from the surrounding mosques, to relaxing with wine or tea in the different lounge areas. The home was immaculate and truly Morrocan. Thank you Madame and Samir for those delicious Moroccon meals. And Samir, what a help he was. He was kind enough to purchase our overnight train tickets from Tanger to Marrakech; he found us taxis when needed and arranged a camel ride, which was quite an experience. Not like riding a horse that's for sure. We are encouraging family and friends, this is the place to stay if you want freedom and pampering at the same time.
Owner's Response: It is gratifying to read the comments of this American couple, recent guests at Dar Aicha. We hope that it will prompt even more US visitors to come to Marrakech and discover its great charm and friendliness.

A Memorable House & Location

Review Submitted: May 9, 2008 Date of Stay: April 2008
We spent 4 nights at Dar Aicha in April. It was so special to be in the heart of the medina, minutes away from the main square and all its activities and the souks. To be able to retreat from the action and the heat into the cool tranquility of the house and sit down to a traditional meal prepared specially for us made all the difference. I doubt we could have been served so well with zero hassle anywhere else.
Samir was gentle and helpful, ready to assist when needed and leaving us to our own devices at all other times. He was invaluable in arranging our transport to & from the airport and if we'd been staying a little longer we would certainly have arranged an excursion through him.
This is a perfect venue for the uninitiated; truly experiencing the place and its culture with all the help you need if you want to take advantage of it.
Owner's Response: KJP's description of Dar Aicha and of the all-too-short time she and her husband spent at the house epitomizes what we are aiming to offer to our guests: an introduction to Marrakech and Morocco in beautiful and elegant surroundings, discovering the charm of Moroccan culture and traditional cuisine, being looked after attentively by our friendly staff, while retaining the kind of privacy that many of us can only dream about while on holiday. Hope many of you will be tempted to come and find out for yourselves what makes Dar Aicha special.
