'Our Visit To Calypso'

Review Submitted: June 12, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
What a wonderful place, from the moment we arrived to a lovely greeting from the management staff we knew we would have a great holiday. This beautiful well managed property is very clean, beautiful well maintained furnishings and has everything to enjoy a perfect holiday on Barbados. My daughter and I have visited the island many times and must say the beach at Enterprise is the most lovely place to spend a day everyone is so friendly, there are good facilities with showers, toilets and a brightly coloured bus which has been turned into a cafe, serving great rum punch and ice cold beers and soft drinks. The local area has a good supermarket for all your needs with good fresh meats, fruit and salads. Friday night is the best at Oistins take a stroll down to have a great fish dinner and just take in the atmosphere of all the locals celebrating the start of the weekend. Calypso has a beautiful small garden with a patio with table and chairs which is a lovely place to dine or for breakfast, the property is great for families or couples there is everything you need for a great holiday. I can't thank Chris & Steve enough for organising and letting us hire there lovely home on Barbados, we will return.....Beverley & Georgina
Owner's Response: We are delighted that you had a great holiday at Calypso and that everything was to your liking - we try very hard to make sure that our guests have the best holiday and that renting privately is smooth and trouble free!

It is gratifying when guests love the house and the area as much as we do! Thank you Beverley and Georgina for looking after Calypso so well!

Have just spent 1 week at Calypso and absolutely loved the house which was very clean, cosy, very welcoming and so tastefully decorated.. The homely feel made me want to keep plumping the cushions and putting them back in order (after the guys got up from the chairs!)

We could see that a lot of thought went in to making Calypso comfortable for the guests but at the same time homely for the owner's return. There was nothing that was missing.

Both the agent Orissa and Oriella the housekeeper were also so helpful and accommodating.

The patio area outside was very relaxing and we spent our early morning breakfast marvelling at the humming bird's little wings flapping away at such a rate!

This is our 5th visit to Barbados but had never come across Enterprise Beach before - and I must say it's one of the best.Only a 5 -minute leisurely stroll away we particularly liked having the shade of the beautiful trees and the very reasonable price of the rum punch!

I could go on and on but just wanted to finish by saying that we plan to return to Calypso soon for a longer stay next time. Being able to return to such a beautiful home at the end of the day made our holiday that much more special.

A Great stay in Barbados

This is a lovely place to stay. It is exactly as per the description! A really clean well furnished and comfortable place to stay (feels quite like a home). The agency that look after you were there when we arrived and the housekeeper was lovely. The area is lovely and quiet and it is literally 2 mins walk to a little beach where we saw 6 turtles during our stay. Walkable to Oistins fish market where the food is great and cheap. This property really is excellent value for money and in a great location just far enough away from the noise and bustle. Highly recommended

From the moment we arrived in Barbados we knew it was going to be a great holiday. The house was fantastic with all the mod cons you would need, decorated lovely you could not fault this house. Situated ideally, close to Miami beach which is a local's beach and not too busy! fantastic!
We came to Barbados for a friends wedding which took place opposite little Orchid hotel looking over the sea, with mind blowing views.
A good night out would be a short trip to Oistins fish market with so much atmosphere and great food, unbelievable!
Overall a brilliant holiday a must for a West Indies vacation and with superb accomodation you can not go wrong.

Calypso

It was our first Caribbean holiday and we weren't disappointed with Calypso. It's an excellent base to see the island. The house is well equipped and a nice touch is that beach towels are provided. The house is kept very clean by the lovely Housekeeper, Orethia. It was very hot day and night - thank goodness for the air con in the bedrooms, the cooling breeze, and the occasional rain shower. I can honestly say that we have never felt so welcome in a foreign country. The Bajans are lovely people; so warm and helpful. Whenever we stopped to check a map, someone coming the opposite way stopped to ask if we were okay and point us in the right direction. Calypso is in a lovely location. A short walk takes you to Enterprise Beach where there is plenty of shade if needed. We really enjoyed watching the hummingbirds and yellow breasts in Calypso's small garden and listening to the Whistling Tree Frogs. We visited most of the island and had some lovely days out. Our particular favourites were Hunte’s Garden (Anthony makes a mean rum punch!) and St Nicholas Abbey. We recommend a day trip with Geoffrey on his catamaran. He knew we weren't confident swimmers and really looked after us. Snorkelling with turtles and reef fish was amazing. The trip included a good buffet lunch at Fisherman's Pub in Speightstown and, yes, rum punch! Several times afterwards we snorkelled at Folkestone Bay. It's perfect for beginners - you don’t have to go too far out to see and feed the fish (they're partial to wholemeal bread!). For cheap eating out we recommend the famous Friday Fish Fry in Oistins - only a 10 mins walk past Enterprise Beach and you can stop and watch locals playing dominos on the way. We ate at Pat's Place twice and Mo's - the fish and rice with peas is excellent. The local beer, Banks, is very good. There are also some very good restaurants locally. The visitors book at Calypos contains many recommendations - including ours - for places to eat and places to visit. Calypso's owner Chris was extremely helpful (and patient!) in answering our many queries before our stay. There's plenty of information and lots of leaflets in the house to ensure that visitors get the best from their stay. Many visitors have recommended happy hour cocktails at the nearby hotel, Little Arches, watching the sun go down; however, our preference was to sit on Enterprise Beach drinking rum punch watching the sun go down with the locals. Wonderful!! Enjoy. We did. Fran & Mike
Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your review and kind words.

We were delighted to have you as guests in our house and would love you to consider our house if you get a chance to go to Barbados again ;-)

A great place to stay. Everythink that we required. Home from home. Spacious and very clean, Only minutes from the beach. Look at further reviews. Everythink that is said is very true. We were reasearching our family tree. So a lot of the time was spent at the museum etc., Hired a car and managed to tour some of the island. Which was also great. Would not hesitate to return again. A big thank you to Chris & Steve. For giving us lots of advice and information which was most useful.
Owner's Response: We are delighted that you had such a productive and enjoyable holiday in our house in Barbados. We relish sharing our love of the island and its people with others and are always willing to give advice and guidance.

Amazing Holiday

Review Submitted: May 24, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
As our second visit to the island, I was skeptical about bringing our 9 month old, as i thought it would be too much work and not enough holiday. How wrong I was. The facilities at this lovely house made the stay a very enjoyable one. With a cot and highchair available it took the stress of bringing these items away, the layout and furnishings made the stay a very comfortable one with a nice cool breeze. The area boasted some of the best beaches I have ever seen and our baby enjoyed the calm blue sea of Miami beach, with plenty of shade, toilets, showers and food outlets close by, you can really spend the whole day there and be comfortable. The position of the house makes it an ideal base for exploring the island, a short walk from the bus station to all the major towns, we soon found our way around. Thank you Chris and Steve for letting us use your beautiful home, it was a wonderful holiday and i just can't wait to book our next trip!!
Owner's Response: We are really pleased you had a good time and that the baby was happy on his first trip to Barbados! Maimi Beach (otherwise known as Enterprise or Paradise Beach) is a real gem with plenty of shade as well as a wide stretch of beautiful sand. Don't forget to get in touch when you want to return to Barbados - we can offer special discounts to returning guests.

What a great place! it was a home from home to use as a base from which to explore this beautiful island. The nearest beach, Miami is one of the best there is and it's walking distance. Oistins has all the facilities we needed - again a walk - and Little Arches Happy hour half price cocktails from 16:00 - 18:00 was a great way to end the day. The baby we had with us had high chair and cot provided which helped enormously. I don't surf but if I did there's a good surfing beach at the end of the drive. Can't wait to go back again.
Owner's Response: I am delighted that you had a great holiday and that the high chair/cot proved useful. Next time you should have a surfing lesson on Cotton Beach!

Paradise!

We loved Calypso and it's quiet location in a very peaceful and mostly residential area close to Oistins and within a couple of hundred yards of Cotton Beach.
The house lived up to all the expectations we had from the photographs. It was modern, tastefully furnished, immaculate and beautifully clean.
Chris and Steve gave us loads of advice and information about the area before our holiday and on our arrival we had a friendly welcoming reception.
We enjoyed swimming in the exciting waters of Cotton Beach and the more tranquil Miami Beach, or watching the surfers further along the coastline.
Walking into Oistins takes only 10 minutes where we shopped for delicious fish in the Fish Market or had meals at the famous 'Fish Fry.'
We can recommend cocktails at 'Little Arches' at sunset in 'Happy Hour! - and also buffet lunch at 'Brown Sugar' further along the coast.
We were entertained by the turtles seen from the Pier and by the wonderful birdlife in the small back garden amongst the shrubs and flowers which gave both shade and privacy.
Not for those seeking 'bright lights' but for us the perfect relaxing holiday.
Owner's Response: Thanks for posting a review. We are delighted that you loved our Barbados house as much as we do! We believe the location is second to none - close by buses, shops and of course, the warm Caribbean sea and yet away from any crowds.

A dream holiday.

The meet and greet welcome to the house was lovely. Picked up from the airport, the taxi pre-arranged, we were welcomed by Orissa. The house was beautiful, spotlessly clean and attractively furnished with lots of room, the airiness and light from the hall window enhanced the sense of space. Both bedrooms and bathrooms were roomy and well furnished. The kitchen was totally equipped, everything we could possibly need was supplied, indeed I would have like to take home some of the whiteware. The downstairs cloakroom was an extra bonus, not having to take a toddler upstairs to wash hands etc, and a place to store surfboards and pushchair. The owners, knowing we were taking a toddler had also provided a travel cot and bedding.
The position of the house is idyllic. Set off the coast road in a small cul-de-sac meant a convenient but very safe place for 6.00 am football matches with said toddler as well as a place to stand and gaze at an azure sea or watch the monkeys, king birds, humming birds that frequented the wooded land across the road. We used the road more for playing than the garden, though the patio was a lovely private place to lounge and relax.
We hired cars for the first two weeks and after that we took to the buses. My daughter and son-in-law joined a long queue in the heat to apply for their driving licenses. We were more fortunate in this as the company we hired our car from also brought the applications and provided the licenses at the house. Using the buses is an experience not to be missed. Be aware though that on Sunday the whole island goes to church ....by bus. They obviously feel the Almighty is with them as the buses are packed well beyond capacity. Getting folks to church is every bus drivers weekly target.
Loved: surfing at the soup bowl, only for the very experienced, mojitas and steaks at the surf shack, swimming with the turtles, go with Geoffrey (card in the folder) he picks you up from the door and provides drinks and lunch, snorkelling the wrecks and reefs, go to the dive shop, Cuz's fish cutters, safe swimming for little ones within walking distance of the house at Miami Beach and while there chicken rotis for lunch from Mr. Delicious on the beach. Happy hour cocktails and excellent food at Little Arches and all the food beer and rum punches at Pat's Place, so cheap and lovely that we ate there most nights.
I am currently trying to persuade my sister to go as long as she takes me with her. We will return.
