A dream holiday.

The meet and greet welcome to the house was lovely. Picked up from the airport, the taxi pre-arranged, we were welcomed by Orissa. The house was beautiful, spotlessly clean and attractively furnished with lots of room, the airiness and light from the hall window enhanced the sense of space. Both bedrooms and bathrooms were roomy and well furnished. The kitchen was totally equipped, everything we could possibly need was supplied, indeed I would have like to take home some of the whiteware. The downstairs cloakroom was an extra bonus, not having to take a toddler upstairs to wash hands etc, and a place to store surfboards and pushchair. The owners, knowing we were taking a toddler had also provided a travel cot and bedding.
The position of the house is idyllic. Set off the coast road in a small cul-de-sac meant a convenient but very safe place for 6.00 am football matches with said toddler as well as a place to stand and gaze at an azure sea or watch the monkeys, king birds, humming birds that frequented the wooded land across the road. We used the road more for playing than the garden, though the patio was a lovely private place to lounge and relax.
We hired cars for the first two weeks and after that we took to the buses. My daughter and son-in-law joined a long queue in the heat to apply for their driving licenses. We were more fortunate in this as the company we hired our car from also brought the applications and provided the licenses at the house. Using the buses is an experience not to be missed. Be aware though that on Sunday the whole island goes to church ....by bus. They obviously feel the Almighty is with them as the buses are packed well beyond capacity. Getting folks to church is every bus drivers weekly target.
Loved: surfing at the soup bowl, only for the very experienced, mojitas and steaks at the surf shack, swimming with the turtles, go with Geoffrey (card in the folder) he picks you up from the door and provides drinks and lunch, snorkelling the wrecks and reefs, go to the dive shop, Cuz's fish cutters, safe swimming for little ones within walking distance of the house at Miami Beach and while there chicken rotis for lunch from Mr. Delicious on the beach. Happy hour cocktails and excellent food at Little Arches and all the food beer and rum punches at Pat's Place, so cheap and lovely that we ate there most nights.
I am currently trying to persuade my sister to go as long as she takes me with her. We will return.
