'The perfect place to escape from life's pressures'

Review in Greater Phuket Magazine Vol. 15 No.4:
'A luxurious villa. Exclusive comforts and privacy.'
Review by M.D. of Marylise Bridal Gowns, Antwerp, Belgium:
'Inspiration and creativity are very important items for people working in the fashion industry. Koh Naka Hideaway has been for sure a place on this world that inspired us fully. We love the place. This is an incredible beautiful and unspoiled spot, a paradise far away from tourist traps and the hassle and bustle of commercial holiday places. The island has been a place that inspred us in our creativity, where we felt great and in perfect peace with ourselves. A romantic place and for sure a dream location.'
Review in Tropical Homes Magazine - Jul-Sept 2004 issue: 'Simply wonderful. Wide-open, airy rooms take full advantage of the inspiring views. A paradise found.'

We booked this "Luxury Beachfront Villa" for 10 days in July 2009, but we left this house after 2 1/2 hours after arriving because we were horrified about the condition of this house. The view from the house over Phang Nga Bay ist really wonderful. Also the living-room and the main-bedroom (very big) are very nice and could be wonderful, if they would be clean. The both other bed-rooms are very small and very simply furnished - just to use for sleep. All 3 "luxury" bathrooms are less than standard, very old, worn and unkempt. The whole Villa gives the impression to us, that it has not been cleaned since a long time. The same cruel situation we found outside of the house: The "wonderful tropical garden" was a wilderness, the whirlpool was not to use because it was full of brackish water und marsh plants. The spotlights were broken and defekt. The area directly beside the whirlpool (there is one big bed for relaxing) looks as a storeroom. The ground was very dirty and there were buckets, bowles and tubes - not appropriate to relax. A beach we've also not seen - just stones and water (at this time was flood-time, so we don't know what will be there when it's low-tide). The staff which was locally looked very unkempt and didn't understand just a little bit English words. All in all is to say, that this Villa is in the most important things which we have expected on the basis of the description not so in reality. This Villa could be offered just as a "Beachfront House" but really not as a "Luxory Beachfront Villa". We have not seen any luxury.
The offering of this villa is totaly wrong and conveys a very different impression. The reality looks quite different from the photos and the description on the website and if we would know all before - we would have never booked this property.
Owner's Response: An internet search of Phuket weather blogspots will reveal that in mid July, for a few days prior to the reviewer's arrival, Phuket was hit by exceptionally stormy weather causing considerable damage including the sinking of a local ferry. Our villa, which is very exposed and open-planned, was not excluded from the effects of the storms. In addition our housekeeping and maintenance function was diminished as a result of staff sickness and the inexperience of replacement staff.
The guests arrived an hour earlier than our earliest check-in time and, it is true that the presentation of the villa was far from at its best upon their arrival. We would have taken great pains to compensate for this by ensuring that the guests had not only a good, but a great, stay and would have permitted the guests to stay at no charge whilst the cleanup was in progress had we been given that opportunity. However the lead guest elected to leave and did not communicate with us about it until 3 weeks later when he made exagerrated complaints and, even before we had an opportunity to respond, made extortive threats to damage our reputation on the internet.
We have had over 50 groups of guests stay and have never had such a negative review.
We regret that the guests experienced disappointment on their arrival instead of the usual "wow" factor and have taken immediate steps to ensure that everything is shipshape again and up to our usual standards for the future.

We anchored off this island when sailing in Phangnga Bay last year and went ashore to explore. We discoverd this villa and were very impressed with the high standard of the accommodation ( which is very hard to find on many of the islands off the coasts of Thailand). We persuaded the owner to let us stay for one night to freshen up and escape from the cramped conditions on our yacht. We realised that it was the ideal place to get together with other members of our family from Australia. Its not quite half-way - nearer to them than us in the UK, so we booked it for this year. It was great to be together with our extended family in a little piece of paradise and the staff looked after our every need. We cannot praise it enough. Only downside was some mosquitos, but we learned to live with them.
We were still able to do some sailing but only day-sailing this time so we could sleep and eat in comfort.
We have no hesitation in recommending this to others.

A Reluctant Review

I am very tempted NOT to write a review for this exceptional villa and keep it as our own family secret. Our family love this place so much that we have visited Koh Naka Retreat now on 3 occasions and can endorse every good thing that the other review writers have said about it. Its just wonderful for a relaxing family holiday.
Now that the cat is out of the bag it looks like we will have to book our trips much earlier to be sure that the villa will be available for our next visit.

a beautiful house

Review Submitted: May 21, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2007
We had a perfect weekend staying at this beautiful house. Every little detail was perfect and the photos did not quite do it justice. The lovely main bedroom with a view over the ocean was fantastic as was the bathroom. The food was absolutely sensational and we had perfect romantic dinners on the balcony by candlelight. The staff were very helpful and discreet. Can't wait to go back again.

Very Romantic

My girlfriend and I were privileged to stay at this villa during our two month trip around Southeast Asia. I knew that sometime during our trip, I was going to propose to her, but I wanted to find the perfect place. When I first saw the pictures of the villa on the internet, I knew immediately it would be the ideal place to ask her to marry me. My expectations were far exceeded! The pictures only give you a glimpse of its immaculate beauty! From the gorgeous dark wood to the jet-spa bathtub, every detail of this villa is pure perfection. The infinity pool is feet from the ocean tide. The master bedroom has a perfect view of the entire beach. You will sleep better than you ever have in your life with the sound of small waves and a constant ocean breeze. If you are lucky enough to wake up early (which believe me is difficult considering the luxurious emperor’s bed) you will see the most beautiful sunrise over the water without even having to lift your head off your pillow. The villa has all the right amenities to make a romantic stay as a couple or a memorable and fun stay with family and friends. Everything is provided for you, from the robes and slippers to the pool rafts. The staff and cook are of the best possible quality. They were so helpful, but made sure to let us have our own time together. The food is incredible. It was by far the best meals we had in Thailand. They came out in the same fashion as a five star restaurant with three courses followed by endless exotic fruit for dessert. We initially had plans to do some day trips (which the owner will gladly arrange), but we ended up getting so wrapped up in the luxury of this villa, we spent all of our days on the island. The owner was extremely accommodating and worked out an incredible deal for us. After we left, we realized we would have paid triple the price to stay there because it was that incredible! It was the ideal place to propose to my now fiancé and we had such a great time that we are contemplating having our honeymoon there. There is not a resort in the world that could match this kind of luxury. Thank you for the experience and memories."

Koh Naka

"Jaew and Si looked after us so well during our 2 weeks at Koh Naka its made the reality of coming back to work even worse! You really feel like you are on your own tropical island. The house is beautiful, spacious and you almost feel like you are living in the trees, with the most spectacular views. Even though we had looked at the photos on the website, the real thing is incredible. Jaew will organise all sorts of trips for you, by longtail boat, the kayaking was brilliant for us all, even the young children enjoyed it. I did yoga most mornings by the pool, before a quick swim and then Si's excellent banana pancakes and fresh fruit for breakfast. Explore this place now - before any other developers catch on.
