Chic modern flat, piano, balcony, playground...
Rented this apartment for friends with two small boys in April. Free parking just outside, can unload car by door. Under five minutes walk to the metro, which whizzes you into the centre of town (including stop under Opera/Ballet, next to Hermitage), or you can change onto the fantastic tram/bus system for all other Amsterdam attractions. Area is modern, almost futuristic and a buzzing contrast to the traditional, historic centre of Amsterdam, yet apartment is quiet and tranquil, unless you are playing the beautiful (and tuned) baby grand piano. Playground behind apartment, watch your children from the balcony as they don't have to cross a road to get to swings, climbing frame, etc. Supermarket and other shops close by, easy walk, pedestrian and bike friendly (although not really far enough to cycle). Apartment also convenient for trips away from Town in the car as you don't have to slog out through narrow streets, just a quick, easy run to the motorway and no need to worry about finding a parking space when you return. Charming owner is entrusting you with his own home, he provides netbook, hifi, TV, rechargeable transport cards (so much cheaper than the one-off tickets they want tourists to buy - just top them up at the machine at the station which takes cards and notes), and a sense of style and glamour rarely seen in the average rental apartment. Modern kitchen is roomy and entices you to make proper meals, five burner gas hob, two different ovens and a built in espresso machine, then you can eat at the dining room table and watch the locals play cricket on the grass, or on the balcony with the playground and many beautiful trees as a back drop. Obviously, if you want to stay on a historic canal in a 'picture postcard' Amsterdam canal house, this is not for you, but if you want to be able to drive to the apartment, to park, to have level floors and a modern interior, and not have to slog up stairs as steep as an Alpine hike (just one flight, modern, with a good, sturdy handrail) (plus there's a store room on ground level, so you don't have to carry prams, scooters, trikes, balls, upstairs), or enjoy a vision of the future elaborated by Holland's justly respected urban planners then this is it. Seamless easy handover at both ends of stay, caring owner ready to help you out, no irksome requests. Friend's satnav found the place with ease.
