The perfect villa for a relaxed family vacation
It was the little touches that we appreciated most. Like the mobile phone with a small deposit left for the guests' convenience. It was so reassuring to know that Jackie, our friendly concierge, was always at the other end of the line; ready to guide and advise. The battery operated reading lights for each of us. (thank you Takis) The welcome bottle of wine. The fact that the 5 seater car was upgraded to a 7 seater one since we were in fact 6 persons. The maid too was a boon.
The villa is beautiful, spacious and comfortable. (don't know why the site says 2 bedrooms, when there are actually 3 with attached baths) Unfortunately it was very windy and chilly in Santorini during our visit, so we couldn't make maximum use of the outdoor area & pool, though we would've loved to sit in the sun more often.
A couple of small changes could add to the comfort of the villa. A few more mugs for tea/coffee and teaspoons please. A light on the stairs going up. (Here's where we made most use of said reading lights!) A vertical rod with hook to convert the hand shower into an overhead one, if preferred. The drainage of water from the 2nd bathroom downstairs is slow. The boiler capacity could be increased as the 2nd person showering had to wait for the water to heat up again. And perhaps i'm asking for too much when i mention a heated pool/jacuzzi for the kind of unseasonable weather we experienced? (this would actually make the villa a year round destination) But overall, these were minor inconveniences. The rustic charm over-rode all these.
Finally, the quaint village of Megalochori is a picturesque one. (Loved the church) It was a treat to live away from the bustle of the more touristy spots. Sadly the tavern just outside the villa was not open for the season, but we had several good meals at convenient Marmita across the road and became warm friends with the hospitable and friendly management.
After this memorable experience, we love all things Greek!
