A favourite place

One of the reasons we chose this property was because the owners had taken great care to describe it accurately and show good photos. So there were no nasty surprises when we arrived. They were also so very helpful with our queries that it felt right to proceed with the booking. Other reasons behind our choice: it was not far to travel from Bordeaux airport, and the villa was located near a lake and the sea.

We had a very relaxing and peaceful week here. It was just outside of the French holiday season (end Sept) but it suited us fine. We liked the seclusion and privacy of the property, and it was located in a very nice neighbourhood. The villa felt very welcoming and everything we needed was there: it was obvious the place was well looked after - we liked coming 'home' to it.

We especially loved the fact that the lake was so close by that we could walk, run or bike it there (the cycle-hire shop was still open at this time of year). An evening walk to the lake was always a treat, and we even swam as the sun went down on one day. We miss the lake !

The people in the nearby town of Sanguinet were always so pleasant to us. My partner (who isn't a dog-lover) was rather taken with a very charming West Highland terrier in the local pottery shop, who would always roll over for a tummy rub (the dog, not my partner !)

We spent a lovely afternoon on top of La dune du Pyla - so good we climbed it twice. What a view !

Would we recommend this property to others? I think we'd rather keep it for ourselves !
Owner's Response: What a fantastic review! Thank you. And the villa will be even better when the new kitchen is installed.....

We couldn't agree more with the comments about the season - After 20 years of ownership, we still think that May,June and September are the very best months in Sanguinet.

I'll start by saying the reason for our delay for writing a review was was purley selfish because by keeping quiet we thought we would lessen the odds of it already being booked when we want to return .We were extremely fortunate with the weather sunshine all the way which made the lakes a wonderful place to be,but I will say having been before when it wasn't wall to wall sunshine there is still plenty of to do and places to visit. The Villa itself has pretty much everything you could want, even if you decide to stay in on the odd evening. Its situation is close to the lake and if you cycle its a wonderful ride on the cycle path to the centre of town. There are many nice things you could say about the owners, the villa and the area but I think the best way I can sum it all is by saying we will for certain be going back there.
Owner's Response: It was such a pleasure to read this review as it encapsulates all the very positive comments we have received in our Visitor's Book this year. As I write this reponse we are working hard installing a new kitchen for the 2010 season - and this great review has made us feel that all our hard work is much appreciated. Keep them coming!

Relaxing holiday

We had a wonderful relaxing holiday at Villa Trefle, less than an hour from Bordeaux airport. The villa was very conveniently located for both the lakeside beaches at Sanguinet and for the Atlantic Coast, as well as being a pleasant location to just chill out and relax with a very secluded back garden. The villa was very well equipped and very clean, and the table tennis table was a big bonus!

Our second year in beautiful Sanguinet - a wonderful unspoilt location. Everything within short, flat, cycling distance. Beautiful, safe sandy beaches around the lake - absolutely perfect. The villa was very comfortable and fully equipped with everything we could possibly need and the table tennis table in the garden was a great hit with our boys.
Owner's Response: We are so pleased that the table tennis table was a resounding success.

We have just spent a week at the villa in mid July and had a fantastic time. The property was very clean and the kitchen fully equipped, also very easy to live in and keep clean. The owners were nearby when we were there and did not interfere, but were there to offer advice and help at the drop of a hat!
I would recommend the property without any reservation.
We loved the fact we could cycle everywhere safely (we had 3 children aged 8,11 and 13). The cycle tracks were super and we went to Bicarosse one day on tracks. Cycling to the beach was great too.
We canoed from Salle to Mios. We had our own canoes but it seemed easy to rent them at the river side. We hired a catamaran at Sanguinet lake one day for an hour and again the equipment was good..all very laid back! We visited Bordeaux one day and thought it was a beautiful city well worth a visit even if for just a shop and a sit in a cafe drinking coffee watching the world go by. We also did a quick tour of the Sauterne chateaux, but the children weren't overly impressed. We did visit the ocean beaches but preferred the quiet of the lake, far more relaxing.
A great holiday!
We highly recommend taking bikes.
Owner's Response: Bike hire (of all sizes and models) is readily available in Sanguinet - should you prefer to rent for a few days rather than take your own bikes for the whole holiday.

As the owners, we are not always present , and usually not during the latter part of July and all of August. This year was an exception, but we are pleased that Hero found our presence helpful and not intrusive.

Best Family Holiday Ever!!!

The Villa Trèfle was so well equipped. The tinies (1 and 3 years) loved playing in the lake, it was so clean and so warm. They also enjoyed the lakeside naps under the trees in the heat of the afternoon and the paddling pool/sandpit at the villa. Our eldest couldn’t get enough of the body boarding at Biscarrosse Plage and all the family enjoyed playing table tennis in the garden, hiring cycles and exploring. A wonderful location – and only 1hour max from the airport – who could ask for more?!
Owner's Response: We think that this location is fantastic for any age group and are truly thrilled when we know that a holiday in our villa has been such a resounding success.

Brilliant Relaxing Family Holiday

The villa was beautifully presented and had everything you could need. There was a chilled bottle of wine when we arrived which was great and the garden was beautifully maintained and secure.

Sanguinet was lovely and even though we were before the season really starts we had plenty to do for the week. Recommend cycling the tracks around the lake, visiting Arcachon and Duna d Pyla - Europes biggest sand dune, Bordeaux was great for the only raiy day and the beaches around the lake were beautifully maintained and perfect fro young children to swim and play on.

Wow, what a fantastic place and loads to do. the house was very clean and comfortable, we've never been to such a beautiful property that accepts dogs. The lake was unbelievable, loads of walks and we all enjoyed swimming every day, the lakeside beaches are safe and ideal for all ages. There are cycle tracks around the lake too which were great. We had barbeques in the garden, a perfect place for a peaceful relaxing evening what more could you want.....well watching the fantastic sunsets whilst eating out at the lakeside Le Pavilion comes close.

We have spend our Easter holidays in Villa Trefle. The house is very nice and confortable and is located in a very quiet area. You also can go sightseeing to very nice places without driving long distance.

It has been a very enjoyable stay and the owner are very friendly people.
