Farnborough - Excellent Views

Northern Holidaymaker Stockport, UK
Review Submitted: August 25, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
My twenty-something daughter met us at the front door shouting "It's Gorgeous". She was taken with the character of this Victorian, three-storey terraced house which has kept many of its attractive original features whilst still being modern, particularly in the bathrooms and the fully-fitted, well-equipped kitchen. If I had a minor criticism it would be that more attention could have been given to the cleaning - I don't mean the general cleaning which was fine, but some of the high cleaning and awkward corners. Perhaps the greatest asset of the house is the view from the front over Brixham and to the harbour beyond; it was a delight of which we never tired. The car-parking at the rear is a little tricky but we quickly managed with an MPV and a VW Golf. Farnborough is two or three hundred yards up a fairly steep hill and then steps to the house as well as those inside. That's fine if you are young and fit but if you are an unfit, overweight pensioner with doubtful knees such as me, then it is still possible slowly and it's worthwhile for those stunning views. The town main shopping street starts at the foot of the hill taking a short walk to the front and harbour with all their attractions. There is a Tesco Extra less than five minutes walk from the house and it's open very early and very late. Brixham has innumerable eating places of every description and price-range. We had a one-year old, teenagers, twenties and 'older' with us- it suited us very nicely and I would recommend both Brixham and Farnborough to you. PS If you can't stand the church clock chiming or seagulls screaming perhaps you should go elsewhere!

A great family holiday had by all 3 generations of us.

There was plenty of room for the 6 of us. The 3 children (4 yrs, 3yrs and 18months) loved exploring the house and there was plenty of room for them to play happily and safely. They made much use of the small courtyard just outside the kitchen as their outside space in the evenings.

The house was well described, well maintained and well presented.

Parking - we parked in front of house to unload 3 children and assorted stuff each day, then moved cars round to parking area. There is space for 2 medium sized cars if you are good at parking - even I managed it!!!

Good and helpful communication prior to visit with owner.

Lots of things to do locally and within a few mins drive.
Goodrington Sands (5 miles) is a beautiful beach, and although busy didn't seem over crowded.
Pirate day on Thursday was well recieved by the children - many free activites to do, dressing up etc.

Overall a good week - weather was typically British but not a lot can be done about that - we just got on with it!

The description on the site is accurate. Property was clean and well-maintained, very nice bathroom.
We had a great week in this house that was well equipped. The only thing we missed was a low (coffee) table in the livingroom. Indeed, park your car at the back !!! (a fine is 35 pounds) Nereby the center, good food in the pubs, nice beach (pebbles, so mind your feet)
Nice neigbours, we needed them both, no problem.
If you clean your trash in the bin or sacks at front, make sure the seagulls can't reach it....I had to clean up the mess they made on the street !!

This is a lovely old house with everything you need for a family holiday. The kitchen is especially well equipped with all the essentials plus loads of cooking utensils, pans etc, perfect for self-catering.
The rooms are all a good size, the master bedroom in particular is pretty spectacular, huge room with an amazing view down to Brixham Harbour. A favourite holiday memory would have to be lying in bed in the morning with the huge sash windows wide open watching the boats come and go in the harbour.
Its lovely having outdoor space as well, there are 3 different patio areas all on different levels, the 2nd two having to be reached by steep steps. The 1st patio area is on ground level but doesnt get a great deal of sun and the views from the top patio are worth the climb up the steps.
Brixham itself is lovely although for decent beaches you really need to go to somewhere like Paignton which is less than 10 mins ride away anyway. There are plenty of places to get food/drink, our favourite was the Prince William down by the marina, they do a really good carvery.
There are also plenty of shops in Brixham, including Somerfield and the Co-op for food shopping and Sainsburys is only about 5 miles away near Paignton.

Easter weekend 2008

Dirksdonuts Oxfordshire
Review Submitted: March 24, 2008 Date of Stay: March 2008
Hi there, i hope that some one gets some use from this short report. The house has recentely undergone some major updating and is superb. There is everything that a family would need for a break. We spent the Easter weekend there in 2008 and enjoyed the house and the area.

The views alone from the house are worth the visit.

Watch out for the parking wardens in the residents bays out front, however there is full off road parking to the rear.

You can walk to the Marina or the Harbour in minutes which is great.

The eateries and pubs are within minutes also.

"Beamers" is worth a visit with quality fresh fish on offer at a reasonable price.

Lots for children to do in the surrounding area.
