Il Civettaio is a beautiful farmhouse in an organic winery and olive farm in Maremma,Tuscany. This country villa, dating back to the 1700, has been elegantly restored into 6 apartments, furnished with family antiques and traditional furniture, to maintain intact the feeling of Maremma, Nestled on a hilltop, it commands a stunning view of the countryside. The farmhouse is surrounded by vineyards, olive trees and woods and the grounds are carefully and environmentally kept, favoring local vegetation that attract a rich wildlife. The panoramic swimming pool, surrounded by fragrant plants like lavender, rosemary and olive trees, is furnished with beach chairs, sunbeds, amacas and shower and has a canopied area for shade. Just outside the farmhouse, there are tables and chairs under the pine trees where you can sit to read, meditate, dine al fresco, or simply enjoy the superb view of the rolling hills and the sunset. Istrice is a light-filled apartment on the second floor of the farmhouse and from its windows you can enjoy the beautiful view of the surrounding valleys and hills. The apartment has a good size living room and 2 bedrooms, tastefully decorated with family antiques and traditional furniture. Completely renovated, it still maintains old historical features and details like the wood-beamed ceilings and the terracotta (cotto) floors. The living room has a sitting area around the old (working) woodburning fireplace with sofas that sit comfortably 4 people. There is a big open-kitchen area with table and chairs for 6. The country-style kitchen is new, with modern appliances: refrigerator, oven, 4 burners, and a dishwasher, so cooking is easy and enjoyable. There is an antique china cabinet the holds plates, glasses, silverware, cups, kitchen utensils, pots and pans as well as table linens and kitchen towels. Il Civettaio is the product of the passion and patience of its owner, Gregorio Dell’Adami de Tarczal, who bought it in 1998 with the goal to restore, preserve and give a new life, in the total respect of the environment, to this little piece of Maremma.

So a new, green wine estate, with the mission to produce fine organic wines and extra-virgin olive oils, is born.

Peaceful and relaxing

We were delighted with the apartment here. It is full of rustic charm and the views are absolutely spectacular. The property was very clean and spacious. The owner and staff couldn't do enough to help and are really nice people. The food provided on 3 nights, the 3 course meal, the pizza's and the buffet, were delicious and the location was ideal for getting around Tuscany. As we were on the road side of the farm house it was a little noisy in the morning but not for long. If I go again I would opt to be on the other side. Overall I would thoroughly recommend this very pleasant holiday destination.

Dear Gregorio, thank you so much for your tidy and comfortable hospitality at Civettaio. What a wonderful place this is – beautiful and relaxing. The children loved the pool, seeing grapes and olive growing and meeting the local fireflies, lizards, deer, a tortoise, a wild pig and, of course, the owls! We have had a fabulous first holiday in Italy and cant wait to come back, hopefully speaking a little Italian. Thank you very much.

Wir waren 1 Woche im August 2008 auf Il Civettaio.Besteht aus insgesamt 5 Appartements unterschiedlicher Größe. Wir hatten die Wohnung Istrice, die ich persönlich am schönsten fand. Vor allen Fenstern sind Mückennetze, was wirklich für ausreichend Schlaf sorgte und man konnte immer die Fenster geöffnet lassen. Das angebotene Abendessen (27€ inkl. Wein und Softdrinks) war sehr lecker und preislich nicht zu schlagen. 1x die Woche hat abends ein Pizzabackevent im Freien stattgefunden, was alle super fanden, vor allem Kinder. Der Pool ist super, auch für Kinder, da ein Einstieg mit Treppen und Gesamttiefe von 1,40m. Es gibt Hängematten und genügend Liegen. Sehr angenehm. Die Lage des Anwesens war auch super, da man zum Meer fahren konnte und Florenz, Siena etc alle nicht zu weit entfernt sind. Die Wohnung ist geschmackvoll eingerichtet, die Bäder mit Bidet, Dusche etc perfekt. Auch die Küche, alles top. Also wir können es nur wärmstens weiterempfehlen und würden selbst auch wieder hinfahren. Preis-Leistung Perfekt!
