Fantastic Holiday

Happy Hampshires Southampton
Review Submitted: July 16, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We stayed in L'Ecruie in June 2009 for 2 weeks. The gite itself was lovely with plenty of room and great facilities for families ie. highchairs/cots etc. The view from the terrace and our bedroom was beautiful - never got bored of it! As the cars were left in the carpark, we felt completely happy for our 2yr to run around the grounds, exploring the gardens, swing/slide, mini trampoline and sandpit. The swimming pool being fenced and secure was a great peace of mind and our little one loved the toddler pool.

The owners Gill & Phil are so nice and welcoming, answering any queries and giving great tips on places to go/eat. We also hired the bikes, which was great to cycle down the bakery every morning for our supply of croissants and also exploring the surrounding area. We felt so relaxed and it was great to meet up with the other parents in the evenings, once the little ones were asleep, and enjoy good chat and wine with the ownners.

We would not hesitate going back and would make an ideal place for large families to go. We found that within 40 min drive in any direction, there was so much to do and see. We especially loved the zoo at La Fleche, highly recommend. We will definately be going back!
Owner's Response: It was wonderful to meet you both and your delightful son! Hope to see you again and hope that you can drag the rest of your family too for a reunion! We are so pleased that you enjoyed our part of the Loire. I am sure that you have not exhausted all the outing possible from our gites, so that next time you will have lots more regional delights to discover.

Visit La Roultiere to relax or for a great base

CLC, Reading
Review Submitted: May 13, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2008
We have visited La Roultiere twice and have recommended it to several friends and family.

La Roultiere is a very beautiful place, rustic with lots of charm, also modern and comfortable so gets just the right balance. Our gites have always been clean & welcoming (and very spacious). I love all the facilities that make life practical and easy (especially when traveling with 2 x toddlers too) - laundry room, swimming pool, big bbq's for every gite, toys, space to play, bike hire etc - without being cluttered or fussy. My husband & I both feel that we would equally enjoy our stay with or without the children & even with a few friends/families in several gites too.

The area has lots to do from walking or cycling locally to sight-seeing by short car journeys. Days spent around the gites without going anywhere are also great. We have visited the zoo, vineyards, equestrian horse centre, mushroom museum, beautiful chateau's & gardens, little steam train ride with the children as well as local cycling.

Gill & Phil are great hosts, very friendly and helpful if you need advice. (Gill is also a great cook - with homegrown produce!)

Our children have both enjoyed everything about La Roultiere. They have enjoyed meeting other guests, playing with the facilities available, enjoying the freedom of space and appreciating the local countryside and learning about nature.

A fantastic holiday for all the family

Steve & Ruth Dorset, England
Review Submitted: January 25, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
Our holiday at La Roultiere was without doubt the most relaxing holiday we've ever had with our children! The accomodation was excellent, the grounds were great for the children to play in and they made lots of new friends. The quiet local lanes and tracks are perfect for family cycle rides and there are loads of attractions to see within an easy drive - the underground tunnels at chateau de Breze are not to be missed! La Roultiere felt like a true 'home from home' and we were all very sad when our holiday came to an end: we will definitely be going back for another holiday!
Owner's Response: Steve and Ruth it was wonderful to meet you and the children..looking forward to the next time!

A family orientated holiday home.

Ideal for all sizes of family. We have stayed as a couple (twice) and once with our daughter and grand children. The kids loved the space and the pool, while the grown-ups enjoyed the pool, the peace and quiet and Gill's great home-cooked meals. Within easy reach of all the Loire Valley chateaux if culture is your thing or just sit and chill out with a glass of wine and wait for the world to pass by (my personal choice).

a quiet lovely country side for relaxing

Lilofri Bonn, Germany
Review Submitted: November 25, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
The description was accurate and rather comprehensive. However, we recommend a more detailed description how to find the location within the village of Breil.

The property was clean and well-maintained. Our children enjoyed the pool very much. It is a nice place for relaxing and sightseeing tours to the Loire Valley (Angers, Tours, Saumur, Chinon and Bourgeuil with excellent red wines).
The owners were very friendly and provided a good customer service.
Owner's Response: Details of our exact location are given on our website and also driving instructions are issued to our guests before their holiday.

La Roultiere - all gites

Rambling South Yorkshire
Review Submitted: November 24, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
They were clean and well maintained, the beds were comfotable, there was plenty of hot water, and the pool was enjoyable. Near the back was a cornfield.

Gill was always friendly, helpful and welcoming

The Lacde Rille with its train on a Sunday is worth visiting. We enjoyed three French restaurant nearby but they are French: - Auberge du Lac; Le Renaissance; Le Lion d'Or.
Owner's Response: We do hope that your rambling group enjoyed the walks in the area, alongside all the chateaux and other touristic sites. I am delighted to hear that the nearby resturants provided you with authentic French menus! I guess thats part of the reason for coming to region...to experience the gastronomy!

La Fermette

Fraizay London
Review Submitted: November 23, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
For a tranquil, relaxing holiday with young children, this is ideal. The gite is comfortable, well-equipped and clean, and the complex is suitable for young children to play in with minimal supervision.

We stayed at La Fermette with our 6 and 9-year-old who played freely in the grounds of the complex with the children from the other gites and the owner's children. We were able to relax and have time for ourselves, knowing the children were safe and enjoying themselves.

The countryside surrounding the gite is beautiful and offers plenty of opportunity for walks and cycle rides which the owners can advise on and also provide bikes for hire. Many of the famous chateaux of the region are less than an hour's drive away.

The English owners live on site, and are very welcoming and informative. They are more than happy to advise you on how to get the most out of your holiday.

Far from the madding crowd

RML Tyne and Wear
Review Submitted: November 21, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We have visited La Roultiere on several occasions. The gites are located in a very peaceful location, safe for children, but not remote from facilities. The properties are well equipped, clean and comfortable. They provide a relaxing retreat, which you can feel happy to let kids play in, and with enough space to chill out. The grounds are attractive, the swimming pool clean and safe and the boules court and outdoor dining area allowed us to meet up with other families in shared space. Each gite also has its own terrace or balcony, which gave us chance to have family BBQs and a glass on wine in the evening. Gill and Phil offer a warm welcome, and the fact that they live on site with their children and dogs made us feel like guests rather than just tourists. We took our bikes to cycle along the Loire last time we were there, but in the past have hired bikes from Gill and Phil to cycle around local villages and the have a picnic at the nearby lake. The towns, villages and countryside are attractive and worth exploring. For visitors like us who travel from NE England, this gives us a true French holiday without days of travel.

Summer Fun

Woostie Tunbridge Wells, UK
Review Submitted: November 21, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We had a lovely week with our friends and all our children, the children all played around the garden with the other children too and left us free to just sit, relax and enjoy the surrounding views and of course, the wine. The local cycle rides and routes were a great hit with all and well worth planning a days route with Gill so you make the most of taking in the local countryside followed by a dip in the lake. Slightly further a field the Chateaux and Loire are well worth visiting, if only to top up the wine collection. Accomodation was perfect. Great place, great area, great hosts and would definitely go again.
Owner's Response: Many thanks for this kind review. It really highlights what a lovely relaxing spot La Roultiere is for all sorts of people especially families. I am really pleased that you enjoyed the use of the bicycles to explore the forested cycle trails to the lake.

Nice Location .... but take care !

Sally & Julian Watford, UK
Review Submitted: November 19, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
Location was pretty and within a relatively short drive of several Loire attractions. Lots of surrounding fields so good for kids to run about safely. In August local chateau hosts a hunting festival, which is interesting so long as you aren't vegetarian. There are several town markets to explore.

Had a good hol overall but experience a little spoilt by young lively dog which was too excitable with the children and had a tendency to bite. Resulted in some tearful episodes with most of the 9 children (between 4 families!) and defensive behaviour from owners. Also we felt that an excessive amount of our deposit was kept, some of which covered breakages to ropey play equipment.
Owner's Response: We were very pleased to welcome this group holiday at La Roultiere this summer, and glad to hear that they enjoyed the surroundings and the facilities at La Roultiere. They hired 4 out of 5 of our gites.
I am surprised that they felt the need to comment of the cost of replacing the play equipment broken by misuse by the younsters in this party. We were notified and apologised to by the adults of the party who had witnessed the breakage. The party leader actually spent time trying to buy a replacement, however I suggested that a better deal and price would be found on the internet. The cost of replacement was discussed with the booking member of the party before departure and a price for its replacement was happily aggreed. Other deductions made were specific to damage in gites reserved by other members of the party. These items were specified in our written correspondance to the booking member, after considerable discusion and without disagreement, on the telephone. Perhaps the reviewer has not been made aware of this correspondance, and therefore suggest contacting the booking member of the group.
We felt saddened that the children did not enjoy the company of our family pet, unlike our other guests and young children here the same week, and before and after this groups stay. Again, in reference to the complaint we were sadly only told of the apparent problem on the last evening of the holiday, therefore we can only assume it was at the time not an issue worth raising, and additionally were unable to help or intervine in the situation. Again this was discussed to the party's satisfaction before departure.
If any readers of this reveiw have any questions regarding our family pets, or the terms and conditions of a booking at La Roultiere we are more than happy to answer your questions.
