Photos and Description of the Gemona del Friuli vacation house rental
2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (1 en-suite), sleeps 5. Terrace, barbecue, pizza oven

Il Bosco is a detached property immersed in meadows and woodlands, just a 40 minute drive from the hilltop town of San Daniele, famous for its ham. The house is very spacious and has a large bedroom with a double and a single bed together with its own en-suite. There is also a double bedroom and a house bathroom. On the ground floor is a large dining kitchen with a wood burning stove, gas hob and fridge. Through the archway is a lounge with a wood burning fire. The house is built of local stone and has a wooden veranda, typical of the houses in the area. There is a large terrace where meals can be taken and there is a picnic area in the meadow at the side of the house. On the terrace is a pizza oven and barbecue. There is adequate parking at the property for three or four cars. TV, DVD, radio, CD/ cassette player and games are at your disposal. Wood and linen are provided.

Activities: There are various activities in the area including archery, mountain biking, para gliding, guided walks, rock climbing, canoeing on the river Arzino and many miles of walks on Monte Prat. In August there is also a car rally. There is a tourist office down in the village of Forgaria for all information. There is plenty of wild life in the area, perfect for birdwatching. The lake of Cornino is in a nature reserve protecting the Griffin. Lots of different species of butterflies, birds including eagles. Deer can be seen in our meadow. The region has an abundance of museums, archaeological sites and castles.

Amenities: There is a bar/restaurant on Monte Prat about 200 metres from the house where one can sample the local cuisine. The specialities of the region are Polenta, Frico, Brovada, Muset and Cjalsons to name but a few. Forgaria has a small supermarket, pharmacy, hairdressers, bank, newsagent, restaurants and bars. There is also a local bus service. We are only a few kilometres from the hilltop town of San Daniele, famous for its crude ham, the ham festival is held during the summer.

Excellent base for sightseeing and relaxing

We spent a week at Il Bosco during the summer and found it to be well equipped and very central in the region which made day trips easy to lots of places. San Daniele, famous for its ham is a must as too is Venzone, a walled city to the north. There is so much to see in this beautiful alpine area. A place we will visit again.

A truly wonderful and relaxing holiday

We have spent another glorious fortnight at 'Il Bosco' and fully intend to return for another holiday soon! This is a wonderful, relaxing and beautiful place to stay, in one of the most unspoilt and pretty regions of Italy. We love it here and have even made plans to buy a property in FVG, in the not too distant future! 'Il Bosco' is lovely - set in a perfectly quiet spot off the long and winding road up to Monte Prat. All you hear, while sat on the lovely, well equipped terrace, are the sounds of nature (crickets, buzzards etc) and the occasional (very quiet) peal of church bells. Inside, 'Il Bosco' is very well equipped - lovely big kitchen and comfortable lounge with a fantastic wood burner to enjoy in the evenings! The bedrooms are spacious and there's plenty of wardrobe/drawer space too. The en -suite shower is very good (hot and powerful) and the beds really comfortable.

Places we visited again this year were Spilimbergo (lovely restaurants, and a famous mosaic town); Udine (great food festival in mid Sept), San Daniele (for the catherdral, bell-tower, and of course the local prosciutto! and Tolmezzo (almost at the border with Austria and a lovely town with great restaurants, shops and bars).

June (the owner) is lovely and will give you lots of tips on great places to visit, and is always pleasant and happy to help.

Unspoilt Beautiful Italy

We had a fantastic week at Il Bosco this August, and truly relaxed in what is a fabulous unspoilt part of Italy. The house is in a wonderful location and is great for exploring the local area and wider.

Among our favourites were Venzone, Splimbergo and Palmanova. Small local towns with wonderful Italian atmospheres. Of the bigger places we enjoyed Udine, and Pedonone, and we were ambitious enough to head to Venice for the day where we will certainly be returning next year; a truly magical city.
The house itself was comfortable and well equipped, and by far our favourite bit about it was breakfast time on the terrace looking out into the green meadow with the only sounds being the nature and faint church bells in the distance.
We would fully recommend a stay at Il Bosco, and you will get a great taste of what is a wonderful unspoilt part of Italy.

Owner's Response: I am so pleased you both enjoyed the house and the region which gives a true taste of Italian life, totally unspoiled by tourism. I hope to welcome you back in the future. Thank you

Enjoy the cultural & culinary delights of FVG

Just back from a very enjoyable week at Il Bosco. We found the "gite" was well-equipped and the website description accurate. The elevation
means that you are away from the heat of the valley - the road up to Monte Prat has hairpin bends but it is well-graded and maintained.

Places that we enjoyed visiting included:

1. The shop of San Daniele producer Dok (on the outskirts of the town) which also has a Restaurant which was packed
2. Cividale del Friuli which was setting up for the Palio di San Donato.
3. Udine - frescoes by Tiepolo and a lovely city just to stroll around.
4. Aquileia - major Roman port and stunning mosaics in the Basilica.

Our visit to Villa Manin was de-railed by an Iron Maiden concert!

Owner's Response: So pleased you enjoyed your stay at Il Bosco and the surrounding area. There is certainly a lot to visit whether it be cultural or simply relaxing and taking in the beautiful views and you seem to have taken in a lot of the sites. Hope I can welcome you back in the future.
