We spent six days at the Boquete River Inn. The cabins and grounds are pretty much as advertised. The view out our door was beautiful. The futon bed was not as comfortable as advertised but I made do. My biggest complaint and warning is that our LOCKED cabin was illegally entered and we had property stolen. I left my Bose headphones in the cabin on our first day there and they were stolen along with a pair of Adidas basketball shorts and a windbreaker. No sign of forced entry and the doors were most definitely locked. We were fortunate that we had decided to take our computers with us. The BRI is off the main road, down a rough unpaved road. A rental car is a must.

We cannot find a better place to rest in the middle of the nature. The path which leads to the cabins is a little bit difficult to find, but once arrived to Ken the owner, we fast feel safe. The welcome is warm, the cabins are clean and spaced out enough from each other for a quiet and intimate stay. The swimming pool is more than welcome after a long day of hike in the forest in the discovery of the volcano Baru. A car is highly recommended.

We stayed with Ken for about 10 days, both in the main house and in a cabana. The temperature was great at night and there was always a breeze in the buildings. Boquete is located at approximately 12 minutes from the compound. I read that some people complained about the unsealed bungalows and other details. Let's keep in mind that this is Panama, not Monte-Carlo and that for a decent bungalow in that location, the price is fair, if not competitive. Ken was helpful in many ways and we knew when we rented not to expect daily room service. The bed was comfortable. The property met our expectation and we will return. A lot of birds to watch and a great view. Though I did not use it, there also was a nice pool.

Property is as advertised, the pool was refreshing, the walking path included a great view. Several spots on property to read and relax. About 7 km from Boquete, plenty of activities in town, beautiful drives. Ken the owner makes you feel at home. I would recommend either his Bed & Breakfast or the roomy cabanas. I will not hesitate to return.

Almost Perfect!

I just completed a one month stay at the Boquete River Inn and the accommodation and service was better than I expected! The owner advised me prior to my arrival that they had experienced some water supply issues - likely due to the nearby road construction. I learned that water supply problems are common in the Boquete area during the dry season. While we did have a few days with little or no water, the owner and other staff worked hard to make our stay comfortable; Ken also worked with the municipal authorities to ensure a return to an adequate water supply. Before my kids joined me in my cabin the water issue had been fully resolved.
There are always some trade-offs at any place you rent. In this case it was a trade-off between a quiet, country setting and easy access to shops and restaurants. I think a rental car is needed to really give you the freedom to enjoy everything the Boquete area has to offer while still having a quiet, safe haven to return to at the end of the day. It was also nice to be able to enjoy a dip in the pool when it got hot in the middle of the day or to hike down to the river and experience the bridge!
The cabin I stayed in was clean and comfortable. The staff was always pleasant and helpful. We needed to expand the sleeping capacity when my kids joined me and Ken was very helpful in accommodating us. I would recommend this as a great base for exploring the area.
Thanks for providing a great experience in the Boquete area!!

Fantastic Vacation Spot

If you are looking for room service stop reading! If you want your vacation to be magical, stress-free, laid back, and just relaxing, then this is THE place to be. The Boquete River Inn and Ken give the guests privacy, beauty, tranquility, and exercise with the walking paths and pool. Everyone was very friendly, including Ken's dog, Pelusa. She'll come for a visit if there is thunder. You can walk about 5 mins to the bus stop and spend the day in Boquete or David. Taxis arrive within 15 mins. You can be as busy in this region as you would like. Go for coffee in Boquete, take a hike to a waterfall or head to David and be in the middle of a large city with many stores, coffee shops, and hole-in-the-wall eateries.
I enjoyed the pool each day, especially with the gorgeous sunshine, birds, and insects. The birds are just beautiful and like to "chat" with you each evening. We were right at home in our cabana with every amenity needed for a perfect vacation. Just remember that any place you visit or stay for a while is what you make it...We made our trip magical!

We stayed in this mini resort just outside of Boquete because of online reviews from another popular review site online.
Simply loved it..
Very tidy, beautiful, large, and EXCELLENT information from Ken.

It's like arriving home and I have not seen so many stars at night since I was a kid. (many years ago I might add)

I have recommended this place to two other friends and I think they will be arriving in Boquete later in 2011.

Top Notch and excellent value.

Nice stay in Alto Boquete !

As we are bird watchers, staying in the town was not our interest. That's why we were happy to find Boquete River Inn located 7 km from Bajo Boquete. Being used to travel by car we had one and appreciated it as it was only a 20 minutes ride to go all around interesting birding places: Finca Lerida, sendero Los Quetzales in Bajo Mono, ... However, I think that the 300 meters access road could be improved easily...especially that we stayed 4 nignts and had to make it often.

We stayed in Villa #3, we didn't have problem with mosquito or any other kind of bug....and vacations are not there to look at TV

Pool was greatly appreciated as the temperature was between 25-30 C every day....outside access was easy :)

Ken was a great host and very helpful!

Owner's Response: Yes, the 300 m. gravel road into our place leaves much to be desired. However, taking it easy all enter without problem. Good news (maybe). We have been promised that that our road will be improved too, as soon as expansion of the main David-Boquete highway to 4 lanes is completed.

Only for those with a vehicle and like bugs and critters

While the owner is nice, we left after only one night here. The cabins are not sealed off - which means they are literally filled with geckos, moths, flys, beetles, spiders and scorpions (we personally saw at least one if not many of each of these during our one night there). Also, the bed was not queen sized, the kitchen was very poorly equipped, and there was no tv in the cabin.

Also disappointing was the fact that the owner reassured us over and over that we did not need to rent a car that taxis and buses were easy to take. What he did not mention is that these cabins are located far off the main road, which you would have to walk up to and then just wait by the side of the road for up to an hour to catch a bus. As for the taxis - you have to walk over to the owner's house and ask him to call you a taxi, and in our case he called and then said that there were none available. Not a comfortable situation. As for the swimming pool - it is directly connected to the owner's house - so it seemed uncomfortable to have to knock on his front door if you want to go swimming.

In closing - I would only stay here if you have your own vehicle (or if you want to cook all of your own meals and never leave the property). Also, you must must must be comfortable being surrounded with scorpions, moths and spiders if you want to get any sleep at all.

When we left after one night we were a bit disappointed that the owner would not refund any of the large deposit we had paid. We did feel a bit mislead by the posting on vrbo.com
Owner's Response: In just under 6 years of being listed on VRBO, and having many visitors stay with us, the outcome of visiting this site, you've just read our 1st ever 'comment.'
Yes, our cabin ceilings are 'unsealed;' left open to allow the heat of mid-day, another avenue of escape. We're in the 'countryside' and in the tropics and on occasion flies, moths, geckos, spiders, birds and scorpions, even the odd snake are seen. And yes, everybody doesn't like them
In balance there is a multitude of beautiful birds, butterflies and the odd time, wildlife sited too. We've recording 54 different bird sightings on, and from, this property.
Our beds ARE ‘queen-sized.' with orthopaedic mattresses. About.com listsa queen-sized bed as 153 cm. long X 120 cm. wide (60” wide and 80” long). And that’s what we have.
All cabins feature large kitchens, frost-free refrigerators, gas stoves, microwaves, coffee makers and toasters. Hot water too! Generally, all utensils and dishware required to cook and serve food are there. We happily respond to requests for items that might not be there.
Television sets are available, on request.
Taxis regularly bring and take guests to and from our place. $5 or $6 per trip is the cost for up to 4 persons. But, sometimes things don't work the way they should. On this occasion, the taxi dispatcher advised that the two-way radio, used to contact and send taxis, was out of service. We were given the cellular phone number of a taxi driver, whom we called.
Finally, a good read of our website provides a lot of information. On the 1st page, 'About Momentum', our location, 300 meters off the main highway, is noted on 2 maps; one being a map sketch, the 2nd, a Google space shot, with comments.
Thank you.
