One of the best holidays we've ever had

Review Submitted: August 4, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Everything you read about Gin Ganga and Ajith and his team is true x 10. It's a breathtaking house with immaculate and beautiful grounds which Ajith proudly showed us around and a beautiful view onto the river.

Nothing was too much trouble - from what we had to eat, the times we wanted to eat it and where we wanted to visit. Ajith is the real gem of this house. He's a qualified tour guide and can arrange places to visit and things to do that are off the usual tourist track whilst also ensuring that you can tick off the classics. We arrived with no concrete plans but a desire to vist Yala National Park in the East and Kandy in the centre. Ajith organised all of this for us at a very reasonable price and we had the thrill of seeing elephants, peacocks, deer, crocodiles and even a bear and a leopard. We also visited a couple of fascinating buddhist temples, saw stick fishermen, visited a tea factory, saw batik being made, set baby turtles free and went fishing in the mangrove swamps in a nearby lagoon. My husband also managed to get two suits made!

We have three children aged 13, 11 and 8 and this was a true paradise of a holiday for them: total freedom to wander around the grounds, fishing from the bridge, swimming in the cleanest pool I've ever been in, drinking king coconut milk from a coconut we'd just 'picked' in the garden, watching monkeys in the trees, a mongoose in the evening, many watermonitors and kingfishers and even on one memorable occasion, a shortcut across the pool from a (harmless) water snake.

We visited the local Lighthouse hotel and had a drink and lunch enjoying the view - but the food was probably better at the villa. We gave Ajith a float, said what we liked and then left him and his team to it. And we were never disappointed.

If you want a real break - no cooking, no cleaning, no driving, no washing and the luxury of beautiful surroundings and exceptionally helpful and friendly people, then look no further than Gin Ganga. We'd love to come back.

Holiday to Remember

Have to say that whilst the description (and photos) of property and staff is mouthwatering the reality is even better. The property is first class in every way as are the attractive grounds. Three sides of the grounds run down to the river and every day you can sit and watch a range of fishermen plying their trade or just catching dinner. Also watch the wildlife on the river. What looks like a small branch sticking out of the water suddenly moves and you realise it's a water monitor waiting for a passing fly. Similarly in the garden, watch the kingfishers, lizards and monkeys from the comfort of a wide range of seating. The swimming pool is excellent and cleaned every morning. The staff soon recognised that we were early risers who enjoyed an early swim and adjusted their timing to ensure the pool was clean by 7.30am. Our morning coffee and tea would be waiting for us by the edge of the pool.

Food was terrific. Whatever you wanted, Ajith would obtain fresh from the market and it would be served at the time to suit you. The choice of food was ours and ranged from local curries all the way through to sausages one evening. We did often leave the choice to Ajith and was never dissapointed.

If you can tear yourself away from the pool and garden let Ajith recommend day trips out and again you won't be dissapointed. We had visited Sri Lanka on previous occasions but Ajith was still able to show us new sights. Lagoon trip on man propelled raft and turtle hatchery fine examples. Galle itself was walking distance away although we would usually use a tuk tuk to return. Fascinating walking around the markets, the Fort, watching cricket etc.etc.. Pestered a little bit in Galle over the first couple of days but 'no thanks' was an acceptable answer about the third time and perhaps they got to know us but by day 3 the pestering stopped. Drinks / Lunch at the Galle Fort Hotel is a must. As is a vist to the Lighthouse Hotel which is only a few minutes walk from the house. Rather expensive for Sri Lanka but we had an excellent meal and the cocktails where rather good and the staff where very welcoming.

Finally a word re Ajith, his family and staff. They just couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Anything you wanted or needed was no trouble at all. The house was kept spotless as was the garden - the lawn was swept more than once a day. Please let Ajith recommend places to visit as you certainly won't be disappointed.

We will certainly be returning.

In Paradise!

As we approached the gated entrance to Gin Ganga house and the guard gave us access to the 'estate' we thought we were in paradise. The staff greeted us at the door with garlands of flowers.
Ajith had met us at the airport the week before and took us on a tour which he had organised for us to perfection to take in all the main sights of the island. We then ended up at the villa for a restful break. Ajith is a wonderful cook, driver and organiser. He took us on trips from the villa to do traditional 'stick fishing', diving and turtle spotting. Around the villa the staff spent hours fishing with the children and showing them wildlife. The house was well kept and the gardens beautifully maintained, every falling leaf seemed to be caught almost in mid air!
The only downside to the holiday was having to leave the villa and staff and come back home.

great family stay

My Family and friends stayed in July 2007. The villa and staff were fantstic, a huge pool and garden, with amazing wildlife. kids swam and played cricket and climbed the trees for coconuts. Staff were great and discreet, we came down to a cooked breakfast every morning and they put on a fantastic fresh seafood barbque at our request. Agith the house manager was a star and took us in the mini bus to all the local sights and local attractions, he also does the shopping. There are some good beaches and a nice hotel very close to the villa. A very relaxing and private location, just watch out for the big mosquitos. Ask Agith for a go on the Tuk tuk. We toured Sri lanka the first week and then chilled at the villa the second week.

My holiday at Gin Ganga

Every item described about this Villa was understated. The Villa was exceptional and the staff fantastic. We were taken everywhere by "Ajthi" the Chauffeur that we wished to visit. In some cases we had to stay the night in an hotel because of the distance involved. This was all taken care of by Ajthi. He made things happen without fuss.
The Villa was perfect as was the pool. I would recommend this Villa without hesitation. If there was a down side then it is the four hour drive from the airport but well worth it once you arrive.
