1871 House is a New York City Style 'Bed & Breakfast Inn' that offers an entirely unique experience that can't be found at cookie-cutter hotels. Quirky and full of character 1871 House's Rooms are furnished with antiques, beds with beautiful quilts and include many original fireplaces.
Tucked away on a tree-lined street, 1871 House is housed in a classic brownstone on east 62nd Street, between Park & Lexington Avenues. The pretty shuttered townhouse is in a nicely quiet location two blocks from Central Park.
Five half-floor suites plus two full-floor suites, each with private en-suite bathroom, offer high ceilings, fireplaces, four-poster beds covered by quilts, marble-topped dressers and lace-curtained windows. Each of the half-floor and full-floor suites are offered on an individual basis and each have their own keyed entrance much like a private apartment. Our half-floor suites can accommodate 1-3 persons and are furnished with 1 queen bed plus either a sofa-bed, trundle bed or folding twin bed option. The full floor suite options (Lexington Suite and Madison Suite) can accommodate a maximum of five persons and are furnished with two queen size beds plus one twin bed and one bathroom. By unlocking a connecting interior door, two of our half floor suites located on our 2nd floor can be combined to create one full floor suite (Library Suite) with two bedrooms, two en-suite bathrooms and a shared kitchen between them. Fireplace mantles, moldings around windows and high ceilings have been preserved. All give the place an elegant B&B feel, as do the antiques scattered throughout. Rooms are modernly enough appointed that you won't feel stuck in the 19th century. Each room is quite large, cozy and country furnished.
The beautiful brownstone building has been extensively renovated over the past 15 years. Close to an upscale shopping zone and surrounded by other Brownstones and Townhouses, the quiet, tree-lined street makes you forget you’re in the heart of the city.
1871 House is conveniently located near a number of exciting New York City attractions such as Central Park, Madison Avenue shopping, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Frick Museum, MoMA, the Whitney Museum much more. A large canvas umbrella creates an ideal spot for tea on the balcony surrounded by containers filled with Peonies, Lilies, lavender, Roses, Hydrangeas, Ivy, and many more (in summer months).

An Excerpt from 'New York's 100 Best Little Hotels:'
'Imagine New England Country Charm just steps from Park Avenue! This delightfully warm and welcoming bed and breakfast is located in a classic five-story brownstone on one of New York’s loveliest, tree-lined blocks. Proprietress Lia Raum and her husband, Warren, have furnished this wonderfully special place with treasures gleaned from Connecticut antiques stores and flea markets.
The result is a feeling of home and hearth, as you would dream it to be. More country inn than urban B&B, here personal attention, good taste, and loving care are evident in every detail. Hand-stitched quilts, hooked rugs, sleigh beds, and sporting prints and paintings abound. Most bedrooms feature original mouldings and working fireplaces. Windows look out on either the leafy, quiet street or the tree-shaded back garden. If you can, book the romantic Cottage room, with its sun-drenched second-floor terrace. This book was written expressly to unearth gems like 1871 House a lovely country hideaway in one of New York’s most elegant neighborhoods.'
