Fantastic Family Holiday in a Great Location

Review Submitted: October 28, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
We stayed at the villa for 10 days in October, 2009 and had a great time - we were a family of 5 with 3 young children (2,4 and 6) and booked the villa and location with very little planning (we also had 2 people visit us for the weekend and an aupair staying with us as well). We couldn't have picked better - the villa is far nicer than the pictures indicate with lots of small, homey details - a fully stocked bar, a great jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom, always plenty of hot water, a super stereo system with a great CD collection and an amazing deck and patio. THe location was great - we walked into Sitges every night - a nice walk through the mature estate and always had great food - Sitges is a very classy, beautiful town - by far the nicest on this coast. It is also a great base for seeing lots around the area - we went to PorAventura twice (book online in advance - way cheaper) - which is an easy 40 minute drive, Barcelona 3 times (the kids loved the Gaudi park) and a Cava tour, Montserrat(another hit) and Poblet (my hubbie oved more than kids). GReat beaches in Sitges - you'd never really have to leave the town! The owner is very easy to deal with and very responsive and the house manager was incredibly helpful (yet discreet). The best family holday ever.

Luxury living ten minutes from the beach.

We had a family holiday at the Shangri-La in June this year (2009). The villa is huge. Five good-sized bedrooms, including one with an en-suite and a four-poster. The bathroom upstairs opens up onto a roof terrace and the morning heat and the view from up there just says "holiday" when you step out.

Downstairs, there is a very good-sized living space. A sofa (not the same furniture as in the photos), four modern rocking chairs, two more single rockers, plasma TV with music and News channels, stereo, chess board, bar area and a dining area.

There is a terrace off the living area and down below in a shady courtyard is a table tennis table and other sports equipment.

At the back of the property there is open air dining and barbecue, a good-sized pool with some extras, and a patch of grass and shade with a hammock.

The cupboards and drawers had basic food supplies in and the fridge was full of beer and soft drinks so you could last the first night without needing a supermarket trip the moment you arrive. Just.

The few times we called on the house keeper Francois he was very helpful. He lives in an adjoining property at the foot of the steps leading up to the villa. He will leave a short information sheet for you.

Things to consider:

The property is half an hour from Barcelona by taxi (60-70Euros) and five minutes from Sitges Renfe station if you want to venture from the airport on the train (a day return to Barcelona was 5.50Euros).

Depending on luggage you could all get there on the train and hire a car locally for three days if you didn't want one for the whole time and don't fancy the expense, but the villa is up a hill in an estate that is only accessible by the main road. It's steep and hot! It's a twenty minute walk to the main town and ten to the nearest small shop. A taxi down to the town is about 7 Euros. We did the maths and there wasn't much in it between hiring a car and paying for taxis everywhere.

All in all a great place to go with a large family group, or friends, to a gorgeous part of Spain.

I must admit that the Villa positevilly surprised me and my friends (12 people).
Internal finishing and decorations are high level. Swimming pool: the best place to rest after a "noche loca" in barcelona, posibility to use the BBQ, tennis table, towels HI FI system and all the rest you name it.....I will defenetly recomend it.....

Stayed for a week in early April '09 with my family, group of 7, including my new grandson 6 mo. old. Owner provided a highchair and foldable playpen for the little one, nice touch. House and grounds are impeccable and very comfortable with a great view of the town and the sea. Couldn't ask for more. Caretaker very welcoming and eager to offer assistance when asked. Would return in an instant. Highly recommended.

Family Christmas 2008

Villa Shangri La proved to be an excellent choice of venue for my family Christmas away from the UK. Being with my partner and our three girls (11/11 & 13) it seemed to cater for everything. With both the shopping and sites of Barcelona and the Skiing and visually stunning views of the Pyrenees in easy reach there was plenty for everyone to do and enjoy even to the extent of the girls having fun on the beach.
Sitges has a variety of restaurants on the front all of which seemed very good but have to say I found the back street Spanish Cafes and restaurants better for atmosphere and local food.
Spacious, clean and well equiped it was a home from home with the added attention of the caretaker to ease out those smaller issues. I will certainly be be back and will recommend this Villa to my friends.

Just returned from a week men's retreat conducted at Villa Shangri-la. From the moment of our arrival, we were greeted in a very friendly matter by the caretaker, who was always available and graceful. The place has amazing energy in simple elegance. We had all the commodities of home. Loved the pool and the jacuzzi, and the convenient distance from the center of Sitges. We were able to be away from the noise and crowds, and yet, very close to the town for its beach and beauty. I would definetely use this villa again for a future gathering. Ideal for retreats and family reunion.

We visited with a family group of 5 adults and 4 children ranging from 15 months to 16 years, all had a great time. The villa was very well equipped, clean and modern and the photos really don't do it justice. We didn't find the lack of air con a problem, fans in the bedrooms were sufficient at night. We did find the walk to the beach and back rather lengthy with small children so would recommend you drive, parking was never a problem. Sitges has lovely beaches, good restauraunts and a lovely atmosphere, definitely recommend this villa for families or a group of adults.

Well equipped, relaxing villa

S2009 Oxfordshire
Review Submitted: July 10, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
June 2008: I went on a week's holiday with the family - 7 adults and one 2 year old. It was a lovely, large villa (the photos don't really do it justice), brilliantly well-equipped, even down to power plug convertors and hairdryers! The pool was great as was the ping pong table.
We had a really relaxing time here. We really appreciated the beers and soft drinks on arrival. It's very useful having the housekeeper on site and he helpfully took away rubbish, cleaned the towels once, gave advice on booking taxis, etc.
The location is good but you do need a car - it's a 5min drive to Sitges (i.e. the city and beach). Barcelona is a 40min train ride away and easy to do in a day.
The only thing I'd say is there are lots of stairs and balconies so we were constantly having to watch the 2 year old, but if you don't mind this it's fine - she had a great time, especially as the pool had a shallow 'shelf' one end for her to play in. Also, there's no air conditioning so it might get very hot in July/August - we were there in June when it was around 30deg so it was pretty hot at night, though we did find this meant we acclimatised better overall.
Tip - go to Picnic on the beach promenade for a meal, great food and great view.

Great weekend with friends

rhoward Paris, France
Review Submitted: May 26, 2008 Date of Stay: March 2008
We managed to get 8 ladies together for a relaxing girls weekend away and the house was an absolute delight. Christian from the rentals team was extremely helpful and responsive ( I was always surprised to see emails from him even late at night) as was the housekeeper Fancois, who gave us the tip off for good restaurants and a few bars to try.

We had wine and cheese waiting for us on our arrival - an excellent way to kick off the weekend.

We had thought of Sitges as an alternative to Barcelona, as it was a short taxi trip from the airport, and infact, we didn't even need to venture to Barcelona to appreciate a lovely beach and great restaurants.

We were a bit cold in the house (we visited in March) as it's big with cement floors, and the water went off on Saturday night, although a quick call to Francois, and it was back on again.

I found this to be excellent value, with nothing misleading from the website and I would recommend it to friends.
