Thanks Roy and Dolphin Cottage for a wonderful Christmas and a 40th wedding anniversary, The cottage is homely and and welcoming and is well equipped with all the basic facilities ( cooked a three course Christmas lunch). As well as the central heating we lit the wood burner in the evenings making it warm and toasty, Had two meals in the Cove Inn Highly Recommended. Well situated with lots of walks and attractions
Thanks again

Fantastic little cottage and perfect location

Lovely, clean (and I am quite fussy about this), very well maintained, spacious cottage. The location is perfect and there is no need for a car: there are regular buses to Weymouth for the train, shops are minutes away and the beach and the pub are seconds away.

I stayed for a week in November, travelling on my own and without a car. I was slightly worried as sometimes cottages near the beach are not very well equipped for winter, but this was not the case at all. The heating worked really well, the cottage was warm and the local shops and services still open.

There are plenty of attractions around to suit everybody. I was there mostly for walking and managed to cover Lyme Regis to Lulworth Cove, and despite the fact that the winter timetable for buses came into effect that week, I was still able to get around without any issues.

Food wise, highlights of my stay were the Fish Market in Weymouth harbour and the Crab House cafe at Ferry Bridge.

Roy was very helpful throughout the stay and couldn't have asked for more.

I have already recommended this place to my friends and will definitely go back.

Perfect getaway

A well equiped and comfortable holiday home with excellent amenities if you ever find yourself lost for something there are plenty of shops, resturants and things to do near by. Plenty of walks and places to visit, take the coastal path to Portland Bill for a well earned drink at the Pullpit Inn and if needs be take the open top bus back.

Roy was very helpful and down to earth. Wonderful collection of vegetable peelers. Log burner is a must for cosy nights in.

Crab house was pricey but well worth a treat, best to book first. Local pub, Cove House Inn, served good food and beer.

Would absolutely go again.

Thank you Roy

Bad - no bathroom/toilet upstairs ( it was in discreNegative - no bathroom/toilet upstairs ( it was in description on the website, however bathroom was not ready to use. Unfortunately we were not informed )
- knifes, peelers were blunt ( to peel a carrot was a challenge)
- tiny uninviting courtyard
- basic
Positive - clean, warm
-comfortable living room
- enough storage, hooks etc.
- 30 sec away from the beach!
- Beautiful location
Owner's Response: Unfortunately my plumber had to go into hospital during the installation and I run out of time, please bare in mind that I am trying to improve the property by installing an upstairs toilet/shower room. Will be completed by the end of April 2012.
I am going to supply a new peeler in the kitchen to solve the carrot problem!

Many Thanks

Great Location and Comfortable Cottage

What a location? Portland beach was a stone throw away. Roy was very helpful and gave us all the information that we need about the cottage.

The cottage was very comfortable and felt very much like an extended home. Cottage was fully furnished and kitchen had all the stuff to feed 6 of us. We used all the 3 bedrooms with broadband facility.

We never wanted to stay at Weymouth which was very busy and crowded. The cottage gave us a choice to stay at a very quiet place near to the beach which was well connected to weymouth. We used bus no:1 to travel between portland and weymouth. The bus stop is within 5 mins from the cottage and the frequency is very good.

We did all the travel in the day and came home in the evening to enjoy the sunset from portland beach(just behind the cottage). The pebble beach was excellent and we enjoyed most of the evenings drinking at the beach with snacks coming from the cottage.

Portland as a whole was very nice and quiet and the people were very friendly. We also did the portland coastal walk which was very relaxing.

The property was well maintained and was very clean. I will not hesitate in recommending this cottage to any of my friends.

Pro's: Very comfortable and relaxing, very well furnished, excellent location, well connected to Weymouth, Roy being very helpful.

Con's: Only one bathroom.

Attractions we covered in the week: Weymouth Beach, Nothe Fort with excellent views, Portland Beach, Portland Coastal walk, Jurassic Coast path using bus X53, Corfe Castle, Swanage Beach using the Steam train ride, Lulworth Castle, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and also visited Guernsey using Condor Ferries.

The cottage was warm, comfortable and friendly, feeling like home from home. Roy was on sight to meet us and show us around the cottage and gave us information about the immediate local area/pubs/eateries etc.
As our middle son put it,(8 years old) "it's great having Chesil beach as our back garden" We found some awesome fossils along the beach after the promenade.
Places to eat were the Cove inn, The Crab shack over the causeway and the Indian restaurant almost next door was excellent. The Blue Finn fish shop was an excellent source of fresh locally caught fish and crab. We have been told that the restaurant was good as well.
Places not to eat, Portland Bill restaurant/cafe for their full breakfast for £8! would have expected better quality sausages and bacon for the price. I'm sure the cream tea's are delightful all but pricey!
We would liked to have seen some leaflets on local sights and attractions left in the cottage.
All in all, a great location, comfortable Cottage and Roy could not have been more helpful or accommodating.

Three doors from the pub! and sunset glory

This cottage is rustic and charming, with many rooms to explorer. One downstair bathroom, but we coped. All mod cons. great shower, microwave, modern kitchen, TV, DVD, freeview etc. Three bedrooms, one in the attic, great for kids. Would of liked another double bed in the second room, but singles were fine.
Can't see the sea from the house, but up the path at the back of the house and you are on the prom. and Chesil Beach. Turn left to a lovely little cafe and fosille hunting, but turn right and there is the prize The Cove Inn. Good food, and great sunsets over the sea.
Roy also has a B&B with coffee shop on the main road, well worth a visit for a latte or Hot Choc. Can also reccommend the Chinese and honey chicken!
Thanks Roy for a lovely stay.

Dolphin Cottage, Chiswell

The property description was accurate, and the cottage itself was clean and well maintained. Everything we needed was provided and the owner came round quickly when we had a small problem . He also recommended some good eating places and interesting areas to visit. We found the location very good for exploring Portland itself as well as the whole Dorset coastline. I would recommend this property to those wanting to explore the area and go walking. The cottage is not suitable for the disabled or those who can't manage stairs. Places we visited included Lulworth Cove and the coast path to Durdle Door (quite energetic), Portland Lighthouse, Weymouth itself, Nothe Fort and Brewers Quay, Portland Castle .We liked the local pub but booking a table is a good idea as it is very popular. Also the Smugglers in Osmington. There is a good Coop in Fortuneswell for most groceries and a big ASDA in Weymouth. There were activities that we didn't have time for and places we didn't get to visit so we may be back!

Good location, nice cottage

Enjoyed a week at Dolphin Cottage (Fisherman's cottage) on Chesil beach, July 2008. Cottage is located very close to beach, literally a stones-throw. It is below the beach so doesn't benefit from a sea-view but is well located aside from this.
Cottage is well equipped and well maintained. The bedrooms are bright and airy; the ground floor is slightly darker, due to the original small window sizes.
Great location for watersports, walking, and access to Weymouth beach. (Chesil beach is a pebble beach, appears good for fishing and activities, not as such for kids). Although bus service appears good, we had a car which was useful with kids.
All in all a good experience and happy to recommend.

Simple, well maintained and comfortable cottage at very nice location along the south of England's Jurrasic coast. Very suitable to start hiking trails and beach walks from. Many sight seeing and children activities within an hour's drive. Nice pub and sea at peddle throw distance and groceries shop at short walking distance.
