Very clean but beds uncomfortable
The booking process was very good, the booking agent very helpful and friendly, and when we arrived after a six hour flight delay we were highly impressed with the cleanliness of the flat, which was super, and much appreciated.
The Cristian Sur complex seems well run and clean, with two small supermarkets on site and an internet facility priced at 1 euro for every 10 minutes - a bit excessive, I thought.
The flat is basically fine but we were only given one key, which caused a lot of problems whenever we wanted to go out separately. Also the beds were dreadful - very thin mattresses which slid across the bedframes every time I turned over, and the into coils dug into my back. My travelling companion had the same experience, plus back ache! The poor quality beds meant that we didn't get much sleep for the whole period we were there. Also, a nearby karaoke bar blared out into the early hours of every single night/morning. Add this to the fact that the walls of the flat are paper thin - we could clearly hear the neighbours (on both sides) talking, doing washing up, TVs, etc and after two weeks it became extremely annoying and intrusive.
We needed some rest after a busy working year and unfortunately this flat did not provide that. It was very noisy, and the shape of the complex buildings means that sound echoes throughout, so even when we tried to take a nap during the day we were disturbed by cleaners regularly shouting to each other, as well as the normal sounds of music from nearby bars.
The showers in the bathrooms really need updating. Water pressure was low, the upstairs cubicle is tiny, and the hot water ran out very quickly - we were only two people and the hot water ran out every morning before the second person had finished showering.
Overall, I would rate it OK but couldn't recommend it to anyone. Definitely needs upgrading. No air conditioning, no internet, uncomfortable beds, poor quality showers ...
There are no doubt worse places, but for the price it was disappointing and a lot more downmarket than we had expected.
Owner's Response: I must say that when I read this review I was disappointed and upset at its content which we feel are unduly negative on a number of levels. The apartment has been rented out to guests now for 5 years and in that time we have never had a negative review as previous reviews on this website and also the guest book which is kept in the apartment will bear testament to.
To address the comments made - the cost of the internet is determined by the Cristian Sur complex as it is within their bar/cafe area but the price is the standard price that is charged by most complexes and hotels for internet usage.
We have a policy that 1 set of keys are provided but, where possible, an extra set will be provided if requested either from us or from the representatives in Tenerife who look after the apartment.
The beds are not uncomfortable and the mattresses are not thin - we were there in October 2009 and they are very comfortable.
The bars in the area are required to close by midnight (even the complex bar) therefore I was surprised to read that there was noise into the early hours.
Again we had no issues over the water pressure when we were last there and there was plenty of hot water. I will, however, bring this issue to the attention of our representatives who look after the apartment to see if a fault has developed.
Overall most of these issues could have been addressed with the guests whilst they were staying in the apartment if they had been brought to our attention or the attention of our representatives at the time.
