Relax in the Dordogne

This is the 4th year in a row that we have rented "Les Grands Chenes", a beautiful country house in the Dordogne region of southern France. The photos on the website don't do this house and the surrounding area justice. The views from the house are wonderful, vineyards and gentle rolling hills. We also love how incredibly quiet it is. There is a good-sized swimming pool and also a jacuzzi and sauna which we use regularly.
The owners are amazing. They live close by so if anything ever breaks or you can't find something, they come immediately to sort it out for you. They are incredibly warm and hospitable.
The house itself is great because it has so many bedrooms that have ensuite baths. Many houses this size have a lots of bedrooms but only a handful of bathrooms, whereas "Les Grands chenes" has a bathroom in almost every room. The kitchen is large and has everything you need.
The other great thing about the house is that there are so many different outdoor sitting areas. Other large country houses that we have rented in the past, don't have this many different areas to sit and hang out outside. Some shaded, some in the sunshine, it's perfect! And the gardens are simply amazing!
I highly recommend "Les Grands chenes". We've been going there for 4 years now, and we will continue to go back every year. There is a lot to do in the surrounding area, Bergerac is a great town and we love the local market full of great fresh produce and lovely local vendors!

We've spent this summer one week in this great and I'm very pleased to conclude that it's even better than the pictures. We've spent a dream vacation in Bergerac with a large group. The property is clean and luxurious, the view is amazing and the facilities are unbelievable. We are already planning our next year holidays to this property again!

Great place to stay for vacation

The Villa is very comfortable. There are many things available for children and also for older ones... Anyone can have its independence, be alone for a while... there is so much space! We have been staying there for 1 week for now 4 or 5 years, and it's difficult to find a propertie as noce to stay at!
Owner's Response: We constantly set our heart on offering to our hosts the best quality-price ratio as regards comfort of lodging in order to be pleased to see them returning. The periods of peak season of course are very required but May, April, June, October September are also very pleasant in the Dordogne.

We had a wondefull time in this house. It is very large, well equiped. We were there for the past 3 years with 4 families. The house, poolhouse and pool was always very tidy, and the garden is extremely relaxing. The view is overwhelming, and with a riding school next door our horse-hobby is also met. So we keep a lot of very good memories about our holidays.
Owner's Response: The proximity of the riding school is an advantage used by many of our guests, adults and children. It is a great pleasure to ride in the open country surrounding the property.

Just returned from a great week at Les Grands Chenes - 19 people, 10 adults, 9 kids aged between 18 months and 6 years - what a find- the location, the house, the facilities all fantastic - the website does not do the house justice - it is huge!
Owners were fabulous - providing informatio in person on how everything worked, from the kitchen equipment through to the hot tub and pool alarm and ensured everything ran smoothly for us all week

A charming villa in the middle of the vignards

A charming place that offers the possibility to explore the "colori local" of the country! Located among the vignards, in the wonderful landscape of Dordogne region, that villa is a great place for leisure, relaxaton, "vine" exploring tourism. A wonderful vacation destination! It's cosy family atmosphere helps to open oneslf from the very begging to get in contact with the hospital ambiance of the area.
The house offers the opportunities to gather for having fun or ,on the opposite, to get isolated for relaxation with a book as only compagnion . By the way there is a wonderfull library generasely shared by the owners of the house! English and French books of various gendres!
The kitchen- a very important place - widely equipped with different household appliences - can be "hospital" to 8 mums+ 9 kids= at once !!! This was our case!
The pool and the SPA are an additional facility that allows 8 mums + 1 papa+ 9 kids = to have fun and take the adventage of the care for oneself!
We had a great vacation ! The only problem was that it took only 7 days! We find that the optimum is 10 days!
So expecting for good deals next summer for 10 days!

We were a family of 10 including 3 young children staying for a period of 1 week. We were very impressed with the facilities that suited all of the age groups and having spent several years at other properties in this area, we would highly recommend this one.
Owner's Response: Size, distribution and equipment of our villa make it an ideal accommodation as well for adults as for family meetings whatever the number of people is.

2009 was our second year staying in this house. We had 19 including children this time, and there was no problem accommodating that size of party The property has all the facilities you could wish for - the only thing to add is food. Gardens are beautiful and the view is spectacular.
Would definitely recommend the house and our wonderful hosts to anybody.

Perfect for family gatherings

We had a wonderful stay at Les Grand Chenes in May 2009. Our group of 21 included nine children (with ages ranging from one to 13 years), five pensioners, and seven other adults, yet the house and grounds were so spacious and well-equipped that it never felt crowded and it was always possible to find a bit of space to yourself. We enjoyed mealtimes, whether taken inside or out, as there was plenty of space for us all to sit down together - very important as we were all together for a golden wedding anniversary celebration. Everyone - not just the children - enjoyed the pool, sauna, jacuzzi, billiards, table tennis and volleyball, and all the beds were incredibly comfortable. The owners visited daily, but were very discreet, and were incredibly helpful, particularly when one of our party had a car accident. The property is very close to Bergerac, but cars are a must as taxis are quite expensive and daily trips to buy food are essential to feed such a large party!
Owner's Response: We use to come 2 or 3 times during the week, early in the morning, to clean and maintain the swimming pool and the jacuzzi for the wellbeing of our guests.

I just wanted to say (on behalf of everyone in our party) a big thank you for letting us use your fabulous house last week. We all really enjoyed our time at your house - it is beautiful and the vast amount of space both inside and out, meant that we had to remind ourselves that there were 20 people in our party!!
