holidays in villa Calypso - live the experience

isidoros papadakis Ekali - Athens - Greece
Review Submitted: September 22, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We live in the time of big challenges, high requirements, permanent vigilance, continuous readiness, ..... in the period of economic crisis…. We live running in stress.

we work, we eat, we think, running daily full with anxious ...

In this period of high speed and fast food way of life, I propose you for the summertime that comes to discover again the value of slowness.

Try therefore otherwise.

it's never to late ! slow Love, slow food, slow cities!

I propose you for your next holiday a exercise of slowness with Cretan color. ….as we could discovered it in the magic Villa Calypso and in the still virgin and unexplored western coast of Crete in enchanting Innahorions.

Making love, dreaming and thinking , enjoying the sea, reading a book, living in the nature, slowly, slowly… as Yannis preparing with love in his tavern Gialites in LIVADIA the daily food.

I recommend you in discovering a different way of life to try out life without wearing a watch …

The house amazing, deserving architectural reward - the view enchanting, the landscape unprecedented, dramatically beautiful - the nightly bath in the swimming-pool enjoying the stars and hearing the waves of the sea would be a remember for ever- really these holidays were an escape in the paradise.
we will come again another time.

Villa Calypso

Review Submitted: November 13, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
The house was clean and well maintained. The pool was not in usable condition until it was cleaned and shocked. This took 2-3 days before we could swim. The view was excellent but getting to the water was a little difficult. The drive from the road to the house needs improving. Very rough. Any problems encountered were resolved by the caretaker.

Relaxation - this is the place!

paxo Middlesex, England
Review Submitted: June 24, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
What a place, one of the best weeks we have ever had for relaxation. The villa was very modern with all the amenities you could desire, and the whole place was so quite and relaxing you can't help falling in love with it - we are already booking for next year!

On its own little outcrop of rock shared with only 1 other villa you would'nt know was there, gives you stunning sea and mountain views to wake up to in the morning.

Alberto who looks after the place could'nt be more helpful, he carried all the suitcases from the hire car (a must - 4x4 recomended for the local area if you want to explore) to the villa (if your wife is like mine thats no mean feat with her suitcase, I usually need a fork lift truck!) and was at our beck and call 24 hours a day. On the first night we arrived at about 9pm and he escorted us to the nearest taverna (more later) so that we could eat. This was our own fault as we didn't take much notice of the instructions sent to us where it says go to the supermarket in Kissamos as there is limited shopping in the area - they are not wrong! If you don't you need to make the 1 hour plus drive back to Kissamos the next day as there is no more than a couple of expensive local mini-markets with limited choice of products.

However we were glad he took us to Yanni's taverna, a lovley young man that has just set up the business himself. He speaks exellent english and actually used to look after the villas for the owner. The food is exellent and the wine even better! (be careful of the local red though - it should come with a government warning, its taste's beautiful but very strong!) Yanni will actually take you into the garden and let you pick your own vegetables and watch him prepare and cook them for you, he is the Jamie Oliver of Crete! This is the only quality taverna within half an hours drive and we found it far better that any we tried in the bigger villages. Yanni also operates a boat you can hire for a beautiful trip around the coast.

So if its an action packed holiday you want with loads going on, go somwhere else! This is a place of relaxation just swimming or lazing by the pool reading a book, or wandering around the local villages eating fantastic food and drinking great local wines soaking up the panoramic views.

Luxury in the wild west of crete at Villa Calypso

Murdo London
Review Submitted: June 24, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
My wife and I spent a week at Villa Calypso as part of our honeymoon in June 2008. The architecture, cleanliness and facilities at the villa were all superb and lived up to our high expectations. The owner's representatives were friendly, attentive and provided great service.

It overlooks the sea in the rocky cove below with a stepped path providing easy access for a swim in the sea (sandals needed for swimming in the water). If thats not your preference then the integral pool should keep you happy and was well maintained throughout our stay.

My wife and I were more than happy to lounge on the various deck areas and make good use of the outside barbecue to grill our evening meals.

If you would like a break from cooking your own hoiwever then I would recommend Yiannis' taverna in nearby Livadia village (local specialities including stuffed aubergine flowers, which were delicious).

In summary, this was a superb and aesthetically pleasing villa which is great for a secluded getaway. If self-sufficient holidaying is your thing this will be perfect (the nearest supermarket is around 45 mins away by car). If you like to go our every evening on your holidays then this is probably too remote for you.

If I had to reach for an improvement suggestion it would merely be to provide a small starter pack of essentials (e.g. a soap powder tablet, dishwasher tablet, coffee filter, sugar cubes). We had to get to the villa and see what was there before returning to a supermarket the next morning to stock up for the week. Not a huge problem but it was a 3 hour round trip by car.

Week 2 Crete Holiday

Lillian Birmingham
Review Submitted: December 25, 2007 Date of Stay: June 2007
We stayed at this villa for the 2nd half of our Crete Holiday; having moved from villa Ostria.

This villa is even more luxurious;as reflected in its pricing. The accomodation for 6 of us was less spacious but still very comfortable. All 3 double bedrooms opened out toward the pool which itelf perches over the cliff. We could actually wake up in the morning and jump into the pool from our bedrooms.

The pool and decking arrangements are even more spectacular than the photos suggest. Definitely a "millionaires pad" vibe about it. Even as one cooks in the open plan kitchen and dining area; the view of the sea distracts.

Same amenties are provided as per villa Ostria i.e. luxurious bedrooms with daily turn-down, internet access, bbq pit.

There is another villa behing this one, but privacy is maintained. Again, a car is essential.

Definitely enjoyed this villa also and would highly recommend it. The guest book is a treasure trove of local sights and must dos.

The 2 villas isolation are perfect for getaway holidays and to get to know a Crete unspoilt by mass tourism. Would definitely return...for longer.

Traumvilla am Meer!

nathel Düsseldorf Germany
Review Submitted: August 27, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
