April in Tourrettes-sur-Loup

I rented La Plantade for a month in 2009, and everything about the experience was just wonderful. Both the house and the village were even better than I had hoped. I had been looking for a house within easy walking distance of one of the hill villages in the Cote d'Azur area, and La Plantade worked out perfectly for what I wanted.

The house was very comfortable and charming - clean and well-maintained with wonderful views and all the conveniences you want in a vacation house. The gardienne (caretaker/contact person during our stay) was most friendly and helpful, and it was very convenient having her nearby.

The medieval village, which we had never visited before, was just delightful - wonderfully picturesque, with very friendly people and several good restaurants and cafes, plus bakeries and small grocery stores to provide all the necessities. (There's also a good supermarket about 5 miles away in Vence.) It was an easy 7 or 8 minute walk to the village square, and there is parking in the village square if you need to get the car nearer the shops for some reason.

During my stay, I had a number of friends coming and going, so the location of the village, quite convenient for the Nice Airport, was a definite plus. It's also just a short drive to Nice, Monaco, Antibes, Cannes, as well as Vence and St. Paul de Vence. There are a number of excellent museums and other sights in this area, plus all varieties of shopping (village markets to ultra-high end in Cannes). The ages of our party, which included Americans and Brits, ranged from 11 to 66, and every single person was just delighted with the visit to La Plantade and Tourrettes. There were no complaints at all.

The weather was still a bit cool at times, so only a couple of our visitors were brave enough for a swim, but the pool was very clean and well-maintained.

The only people for whom I might not recommend La Plantade are those who want to do serious gourmet cooking during their stay. The kitchen, while well equipped, is pretty small, but was more than adequate for our purposes.

I think anyone looking for a house in or near a charming hill town in the Nice area would find La Plantade difficult or impossible to beat.

lovely private villa

We spent a very pleasant week here mostly swimming in the pool and lounging around on the terrace. The villa is surrounded by a mature and very private garden and is nicely furnished with antiques and a lot of interesting artwork. The terrace has great views of the surrounding mountains and of of the central part of Tourettes. We felt “at home” shortly after moving in and we were sorry to have to leave at the end of our holiday.

Tourettes is an interesting medieval town with winding narrow streets and lots of nooks and crannys. The town has a number of art and craft shops, restaurants, and the usual assortment of necessary holiday amenities - bakery, pizza shop and an excellent wine shop. There are also a couple of supermarkets 10 minutes down the hill in Vence.

If you are looking for a private holiday location that is a few miles away from the coast this is a great choice, it is centrally located and a short drive to Nice, Cannes and Antibes.

How rare to stay in a holiday villa as lovely as the pictures advertising it, if anything lovelier.
La Plantade is perfectly situated : the backdrop to the breakfast table is the skyline of Tourettes. Its boulangerie is a pleasant walk in the morning and the Relais des Coches restaurant even nearer for lunch or dinner. We were a group of adults ranging from 25 to middle age and we all thought the house, its situation, its pool and its art were a delight.
It was a special privilege to spend time with the sculptures, library and paintings which all contributed to the ambiance.
St Paul de Vence with its art history and the Maeght foundation is but a short drive away and we would highly recommend Vence for the Matisse chapel and Les Bacchanales restaurant whose decor is wicked and the food very good.
Having Nice and Cannes so near too is the icing on the proverbial cake...incredible to think that the time-warp village of Tourettes with its market, cafes and boules exists within 30 minutes' drive of La Rotonde in the Negresco.
Communication with the owner was efficient speedy and helpful and in short we would strongly recommend this property. The information given was very accurate right down to the reassuring advice re the very narrow access road. We've stayed in many holiday rentals and this one gets extremely high marks.

ENCHANTED PLACE

JARENO1706 SWITZERLAND
Review Submitted: July 30, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
My wife and I stayed at "La Plantade" together with good friends. It was a wonderful holiday thanks to the unique property and the surrounding. From the main terrace of the house you have a magnificent view onto the medieval town of Tourrettes-Sur-Loup, which is only fine minutes away by walking. The enchanted town has small stores which offer fresh produce and other food you may require to re-stock if you wish to eat "in house". Otherwise there are nice restaurants offering local food. "La Plantade" is set in a big and very well kept garden. The swimming pool has a good size but is not heated, which helped us to get started with a good fitness training before breakfast ! There are many usable terraces around the house so that one can always expose or avoid oneself to the sunshine. The property is well protected and secluded from neighbors or noise. The living and dining room are very generous in size. The bedrooms are of medium size. The bathrooms and kitchen are smaller but comfortable. The house interior is very charming, full of antiquities and interesting mementos belonging to the owner. The nearby towns of Vence, St. Paul de Vence, Antibes, Grasse, Cagnes, Cannes and Nice offer plenty of program for excursions and eating out at great restaurants. All in all, great property, great location, wonderful relaxing experience. You will certainly need a car to move around. The driveway to the property is extremely narrow, so don't attempt to drive in with your Bentley. It wont make it !

La Plantade

Review Submitted: July 20, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We had a wonderful two weeks at 'La Plantade'. There is so much to see in the vicinity - beautiful medieval villages like Vence, St-Paul-de-Vence and the 'villages perchés' such as Gourdon in the nearby Gorges du Loup. There are many art galleries, such as the Fondation Maeght at St-Paul-de-Vence and the Fernand Léger gallery at Biot, where you can also visit the glass-blowing factory. The perfume factories at Grasse are a short drive away, as are the beaches and delights of the Riviera (traffic can be very heavy). We visited Antibes, Nice and the beautiful gardens of Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild at St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. There are amazing drives up into the mountains such as the Gorges du Cians or Gorges de Daluis if you don't mind driving a little further. Or you could drive up to Les Courmettes which is no distance away, and from where there are amazing views over the coast from the firemen's lookout post.

Or you can just stay and enjoy 'La Plantade' and the pool and the beautiful view and walk into town for your bread in the mornings. Tourrettes is a friendly and lively village with lovely craft shops and some great restaurants, such as the Auberge de Tourrettes, Clovis, Chez Grand'mère and Le Médiéval.

A week in La Plantade

Recently back from a glorious week in La Plantade, have to say the villa was in a fabulous location only a few minutes walk from the village of Tourettes sur loup which is a charming village extremely friendly and plenty of choice in restaurants, shops, boulangerie’s and some lovely walks with amazing views.
The villa itself was way beyond what I was expecting plenty of room, there was 6 of us staying 2 couples used the main house and we used the apartment and it was all extremely comfy with everything you could possibly need provided, we were luck that we got great weather for the full week in the May and the pool was brilliant for chilling out in plenty of comfy sunbeds and fridge just at hand for keeping the drinks cool.
Would highly recommend a stay in La Plantade and will definitely be heading back again soon.

My wife and I with 2 friends stayed at Plantade for 10 days at the beginning of October. It was still warm enough for a swim in the pool, and some sunning on the terraces. My wife and her friend, Cindy, would walk to the bakery ever morning for "pain au chocolate" while her husband, Dallas, and I prepared breakfast. Each day was filled with exploring: into Monaco, Italy (VentiMiglia is really funky, but the market closes at 12, so don't miss your timing), Guordon perched on its pinnacle, etc. museums, restaurants, crafts abound. I doubt if we ever had to spend more than an hour or so on the road.

We all love our food and found the kitchen equipment very complete. We were able to cook a few very good meals and dined either on one of the terraces or in the dining room. The local produce and meats bought in the village are super. For an American the lack of insects at night is a very pleasant suprise.

The general ambiance of the lovely old furniture and modern paintings you will not find at any hotels I know of.

I can't think of a better trip we have ever had. The luxury of staying in one spot and having a person there to take care of incidentals makes this a truly luxurious vacation. Just a great time was had by all. We can't wait to return.

great holiday at la Plantade

Review Submitted: August 11, 2008 Date of Stay: April 2008
Our stay at La Plantade felt like a warm bath; the personality of the house surprised us. We celibrated our holiday there with three children. It's necessary in this house that children understand how to deal with pretty things in the house, but when they do, it is a perfect house.

The swimmingpool has been used a lot by our children, it's a nice large swimmingpool, with great sunchairs next to it.

When it was too warm to sit outside in the sun, the outdoor roof sheltered us and we enjoyed the great view of the village.

For the colder evenings there are enough books to read en qualityfilms to watch.

The housekeeper was very helpfull and the house was clean and good maintained. The quality of the beds can't be descriped as typicall french!! We had very restfull nights.

Tourette is a lovely place. We were surprised that the owner of the alimentation still remembered us from the years before (he really has great food in his store). It's a pleasure to see the locals play jeu de boule, while nipping of a cool glass of rose in the cafe du Midi or the cafe des Sport. There are enough restaurants to spent a nice evening and the boulangers and the boucheries are a joy to visit!!

We also had a good walk on the mountain near the house, a total different world within handreach.

Bottomline: we had a great time.

Merel

Carole Stone author of : 'The Ultimate Guide to Successful Networking' said of her stay in 2004, 'La Plantade is a very personal villa in which to entertain both family and friends on holiday. The shady terrace and the garden were particularly admired by guests.'
Huw Radley wrote: “In July 2004 we spent two glorious weeks at La Plantade which is perfectly located in idyllic Tourrettes sur Loup. Most memorable are the wonderful views from the superb, all round well sheltered terrace and upper main bedroom – the distant sea, the mountains, and a perfect view of the village - which in itself is such a delight. Don’t miss market day on Wednesday for some additional local delicacies. Our plans to explore the Cote d’Azur were somewhat put on hold given the temptation to just chill out at the poolside, and enjoy the ambiance of the villa and its beautiful gardens. Having said that, access to the entire region is within a very short drive - and well worth the effort.'

Erholsamer Familienurlaub
