Location, location, location.....
The great appeal of this holiday apartment is its location and character. It's a two minute walk to the promenade and the beach, and the windows of the living room overlook the lively Cours Saleya in the heart of the old town. The restaurants along the Cours Saleya can be pricey, but you can get all the buzz and atmosphere of dining there by throwing open the shutters and windows, whilst staying at home! The bedrooms are at the back of the apartment, and we were not disturbed at all by the restaurants on the street below. There's a (rather rickety) spiral staircase to a roof terrace (the green and white striped awning on the picture is part of it) which is a nice place to catch a few evening rays and a glimpse of the sea. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils, etc, and in general we found the apartment perfectly comfortable and sufficiently spacious for two families of four (with teenaged children). There are supermarkets, a great bread shop, and the fresh fruit/veg market all within 100 metres of the front door.
If there's a downside, it is that the decor, though not dirty, is a little tired and dusty (possibly because we were towards the end of the summer holiday season?), and one of the showers was out of action for the week that we were there. In view of this, I found the 150 Euro standard cleaning charge (over and above the rental) too high.
We didn't hire a car, and were glad we didn't. The queues into the car park on Cours Saleya look like a real problem at many times of the day and evening. To get around Nice, the bus and trams are accessible nearby.
