This extremely spacious one bedroom apartment brings you right into the heart of Funchal, but in a very quiet and peaceful residential area where you can relax on your balcony and watch the cruise ships and ferries coming and going or lounge round the communal pool and soak up the sun – a real oasis of calm just minutes from the city centre. The elevated balcony gives a perfect view of the cable cars making their way up to Monte and firework displays in June and at the New Year. There is a large double bedroom with sliding doors to the balcony that extends the full length of the apartment, a full bathroom and a well equipped kitchen. The lounge is spacious with dining area, DVD player and cable TV, again with sliding doors bringing the balcony into the room. High-speed internet access is free. The pool has loungers and umbrellas for your use - beach towels are provided. The complex has just been fully redecorated. Cafes, restaurants and supermarkets are all within 5 minutes’ walk.

This apartment met all our expectations. It is very roomy - large lounge/dining room; spacious, well-stocked kitchen; large bedroom with plenty of hanging space and drawers (with comfortable bed). The view from the balcony is spectacular both daytime and night-time; we took breakfast every morning on the balcony, gazing over the city and port and watching the boats come in and go out of the harbour.
Varandas do Funchal is located about 10 minutes walk from the old town, full of excellent restaurants (Peter and Fiona will recommend the best ones). It is about the same distance from the nearest supermarket. The walk to and from these places is on a 1 in 4 slope - but then everywhere in Madeira is the same.
Madeira is a heavenly place - moderate climate (15 to 21 degrees C in April); amazing scenery in mountains and coast; and superb flower gardens and parks, especially the orchid display at Boa Vista.
I recommend it highly and will definitely be returning.

The small hill on the approach to the apartment on foot is of course what gives the apartment such good views over the bay of Funchal. Well worth the exercise!

Perfect Location

We have been to Funchal many times before and have always stayed out by the Lido. This is much better, with access to the old town in 5 minutes on foot and the newer parts of the city within 10 minutes. The hill as you return is fairly steep but very short, but without it you wouldn't have the amazing panorama of Funchal bay. Would love to be on the balcony for the fireworks in June or even better New Years Eve.
The apartment is spacious compared to the newer "boxes" built recently. Very peaceful to say how close to the centre it is. Try the little cafe hidden above - just walk a little higher up the one way road - you wouldn't think of doing this - and you can catch the No 26 bus just outside.
The apartment has everything you want - could spend days playing with the satellite TV system! Will return - highly recommended.

Even more improvements have been made since your stay - a large new "designer" bed, new seating and an "executive" computer workstation - in addition to the 300 channel satellite TV. The owners certainly believe in re-investing!

A gamble that paid off!

This was our first stay in Madeira and we gambled on this apartment. It turned out to be a success. We spent every day walking levadas and nice dinners downtown every evening.
