The aptm is on the ground floor of our own house in Mosfellsbaer, which is a beautiful little village by the Ring Road in the outskirt of Reykjavik (15 min drive to city centre). It is peaceful, clean and cozy and suits up to 4 people with 1 bedroom w/double bed, well equipped kitchenette, a bathroom w/shower and a washing machine, the living room with a sofabed, TV, CD, DVD not to mention the high speed WiFi (included) and a dining area with kitchentable and chairs. A small storage room is to keep suitcases, luggage, backpacks and such. We run a fully licensed apartment.
The surroundings are beautiful and nature is all around, mountains and the ocean is close by, a house for birdwatching is at the shore, here are hiking, walking and cycling paths and two geothermal heated swimming pools, two golf courses (9 and 18 holes), stables, a horse rental to name a few.
The Bike Park, Skálafell is in this neighbourhood and there are about 20 km to the Park. Skálafell is our skiing area during winter-time.
Mosfellsbær is the home area of our Nobel Prize winner for literature in 1955, Halldór Laxness, and his home Gljúfrasteinn is now a museum and is in 10 min drive from here.
The Northern Lights can well been seen from this beautiful spot.
Distances: Lake Thingvellir (37 km) , Gullfoss (97 km), Geysir (87 km), Blue Lagoon (47km).
How to get there: By car is about an hour drive (58 km) from Keflavik Airport to Mosfellsbaer. Drive Road 41 to Reykjavik and then take Road 1 to the west to Mosfellsbaer, the name is on road signs by the road when you are in Reykjavik.
Turn to the left on the fourth roundabout and turn again to left on the second street.
By bus: Take the Flybus from Keflavik Airport to BSÍ (Bus Terminal Station) located in the city centre of Reykjavik. From there take bus nr. 15 to Mosfellsbaer and go out at Brekkutangi. When stepping out of the bus, turn to the left and take several steps and turn to right and walk about 30 meters to our house.
My husband, Erik is a carpenter and he (and me as his handyman) have built this house during the years 1981-1986. After the kids had grewn up and moved away we changed the part of the house and made this cozy little apartment that we now rent out to tourists.
So everything is more or less done with our own hands.
Our community, Mosfellsbaer is so peaceful and beautiful little town and bringing children up here in such a family friendly environment is a privilege. We live 'almost in the country' yet so close to Reykjavik with only 15 minutes driving to the center of Reykjavik.
The apartment we made is simple and our main concern is to have it always clean and comfortable and to our opinion and to others that have written in our guestbook, then it is obvious that we have succeeded in doing so.
