My name is Carlos and I was born in Barcelonna city, where I've lived most of my life. I love the Old Town where I moved back in 1994 and lived ever since

Carlos purchased this apartment in 2000

The 4 properties are very well located, in walking distance to most sights and a few underground stops

Location, charming apartments combining some old original features like wooden beams with mod cons like AC, WiFi and satellite/ cable tv

Great Apartment - Superb Agent

Firstly, Id like to say that weve been travelling now for 6 months, staying everywhere at rental apartments. We've had great agents and owners everywhere. Guillermo is in a class of his own. So warm and friendly, he gave us so much of his time and energy, yet left us to our own space entirely as well. We were really impressed. All Carlos and Guillermo's communications were top notch and very informative.

The part of town was superb. I loved discovering a children's playground and community garden nearby. We walked to most things, and took the underground for things further away. What an amazing city.

Now for the apartment. We had apartment two, at the top of the building. It was big enough for four of us, perfectly clean. Everything worked. It's the only place we've used the air conditioning. That was because although I loved the street noises, I slept better without them. The windows cut them out perfectly, but then it was hot without the air conditioning.

The apartment is a little smaller than it looks in the photos - this is just a function of photography, I think. We've found it the same everywhere. The only place we felt cramped was in the kitchen. We cooked almost all our own meals and it wasn't quite a hostess kitchen. But it was fine, and most people will cook less than we did.

The second bedroom could be jazzed up a little bit, and there's not much room when it has two beds in it, but that's how a two-bedroomed apartment becomes affordable in such a great location.

All in all, we thought the apartment was excellent. Thanks to Guillermo and Carlos. Sorry it took me so long to write the review.

Good apartment, affordable, on a terrific street

The strong point of this place is its location. Its not quite in the Gothic district, so you don't get a huge number of tourists everywhere, but everything in the Gothic district is a 5-10 minute walk away. The street that the apartment is on is perfect: a bakery, an artist, several cafes at a plaza at the end of the street, and many local residents. Sitting out on the small (very small) balcony in the morning or at night and listening to the sounds of the neighborhood was one of my favorite things to do. I had been a bit apprehensive about the neighborhood because I'd seen a lot of graffiti when I looked at the Google Street-view of the area (graffiti is, perhaps, a sign of crime in parts of urban America), but in Barcelona, graffiti is more of an artistic endeavor (and, apparently, a method of advertising), so nothing to worry about in terms of crime. We cam home after midnight and had no problems.

The apartment itself is good but not great. There are multiple units advertised here. The one we stayed in was on the top (7th) floor, and was quite a long walk up the stairs. This was fine for fit, able-bodied people but be warned, its quite a schlep! The view is okay: nice to see the neighboring building, but mostly antennas on the rooftops. The kitchen allows you to cook meals. We had some trouble with the air conditioner in the bedroom. It might have been "user error", but make sure to confirm that both AC units are working properly at the start of your stay (it can get quite hot up there without it). All else (shower, toilet, sinks) worked fine and the furniture was in very good shape, though the guest bedroom was VERY spartan(we didn't use it, so we didn't care): just a twin bed, a small lamp, a poster, a bureau. Both bedrooms are quite quiet and insulated from street noise, which is nice. Cable TV and internet worked great, though with such a beautiful city right outside your door, staying in and watching TV wasn't what we wanted to do. Overall, this is a great, comfortable home base for people wanting to spend there time in Barcelona eating out, exploring, and enjoying all the city has to offer.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. I would like to note for non American prospective guests in America the street level is counted as 1st floor, whereas in Europe we do not count it, so for Europeans the apartment where this guest stayed ( on the top floor) would be on the 6th floor ( no lift/ elevator, as most buildings in the Old Town).

Re AC not working properly, please note I do not live in the apartment and sometimes guests arrive and leave the same day, which means I do not have the time to check every single item, so if I am not notified of something not working, I can not know there is a problem; if I receive a note/ email/ phone call on it, I am ready to go at any time and try fix it myself, or if I can't, calling some technician. If guests do not let me know, I am assuming everything is working fine. I've got a smart phone, so either phone or email is fine to reach out to me and I will read it straight away.

My teenage daughter and I spent 8 days exploring Barcelona. This apartment was just what we needed. It is in a quiet neighborhood, walking distance to everything, well appointed, clean and light. It was so pleasant to come back in the afternoon and have some down time there. I really enjoyed reading by the open balcony windows. At night my daughter loved looking down on the street. The big markets are fun to visit, so we really used the kitchen.
Carlos (the owner) was very responsive to emails and Guillermo (who met us and walked us to the apartment when we arrived) had lots of helpful tips- his restaurant suggestions were incredibly good.
The bakery on the street below was fun to visit for breakfast. And the best tapas (recommended by Guillermo)-Euskal Etxea by the Picasso Museum. Make sure you visit the park behind the neighborhood, that goes from the Arc de Triomf to the Zoo- it is a lovely morning walk.
I would definitely recommend this apartment to friends- and we will definitely be back!

Outstanding Apartment #2 - Just as Described

Our family of four adults spent four nights over Christmas in the ad's Apartment #2. The property was just as described: top floor, clean, well-appointed, great neighborhood, lots of natural light, close to many attractions, the beach, the metro, parks, markets and lots of eating/drinking options.

We never met the owner, Carlos, but he was very helpful and responsive to our email questions. His comrade, Guillermo, who met us with keys and apartment details, was timely, energetic, friendly and very helpful in every respect. He really helped point us to great eating and tourist options in the neighborhood and around town. Both Carlos and Guillermo have much better English than we have Spanish, so they were able be hugely helpful in all regards.

I hope to stay in this property again and recommend it without reservation to visitors keen for a top floor apartment. This apartment, and the owner team's help, really made our Barcelona vacation a memorable and fantastic success.

Thank you Guillermo and Carlos!
