Ten to fifteen minutes from the Big Island's very best beaches, our home may be booked as either a 2 bed/2 bath or 3 bed/3 bath. You'll enjoy a splendid view of the Kohala Mountains, and partial ocean views offer dramatic colors at sunset. On clear days, Maui can be seen looming above the horizon.
A wonderful floor plan for couples or families, the house has 2 bedrooms, each with it's own bathroom, separated by a spacious great room. Each bedroom is furnished with a queen bed. The master bedroom has patio doors opening to a covered lanai. The second bedroom opens to a wrap-around deck. The great room with full kitchen, dining area and living room opens to a screened lanai with outdoor dining set.
Located on a quiet cul-de-sac, you'll find our home to be quite private and serene. Along with new bamboo flooring and a pleasant color palette, you'll enjoy contemporary comfortable furnishings. You'll find our leather sectional sofa quite welcoming after a day at the beach or touring the island. If you choose to stay in for the evening, a flat screen TV, DVD player and i-pod dock are there to entertain you.
Towels and bed linens are new and top quality. Beds are quite comfortable. The kitchen, with breakfast bar and adjacent dining area, is fully equipped with everything you'll need to enjoy our island cuisine.
You'll find a coffee maker, blender, toaster, microwave, pots and pans and dishes. The fridge has ice and water on the door. If you like to grill, a newer gas BBQ is right outside the screened lanai. Lounge chairs and built in bench seating are also on the deck for your enjoyment. The garden is quite pretty with palms, plumeria, avocado, and banana trees and flowering hibiscus surrounding the lawn.
Waikoloa Village amenities including a full service grocery store with bakery and deli, gas station, and coffee shop all less than 5 minutes drive from the house. The Waikoloa Village community pool, golf course, tennis courts, stables and club house restaurant/bar are all also within 5 minutes.
Community pool includes an adult pool for lap swimming and a shallow kiddie pool. The pool area has lounge chairs, a shaded area, showers, and restroom facilities.
In addition to the Waikoloa Village amenities, the Kohala Coast resorts, Waikoloa, Mauna Lani, Mauna Kea, and Hapuna Prince are all about 10-20 minutes drive time with myriad of shopping and restaurants choices.
At the closest, the Waikoloa Beach Resort, you'll find the King and Queen Shops with boutiques, art galleries and a wide range of dining options. In the early evening, enjoy free Hawaiian music and hula. Or skip the shops and head out to our personal favorite, Lava Lava Beach Club at A-bay (Anaeho'omalu), for the fantastic ocean front atmosphere, friendly service, good food and drinks. At sunset the tikis are lit, the live music starts and it just doesn't get any better.
Tommy Bahama chairs, beach towels, thermos bags, newer snorkel sets, and boogie boards are available for your convenience. Vacation like a local, take advantage of the Big Island's best beaches and other resort amenities for a fraction of the cost.
Going north past the beaches you'll find Kawaihae Harbor with a few good local restaurants and a great little place to buy fresh fish. Continue up the Kohala Coast to explore the old plantation towns of Hawi and Kapa'a. The Pololu Valley look-out is the end of the road and a site well worth the drive.
Kona airport is about 35 minutes to the south, where you will also find Costco close-by. Kailua Kona town is another 10-15 minutes further south. Waimea and the famed Parker Ranch and great Farmers' Markets are about 20 minutes away.
For further exploring, Saddle Road is about 10 minutes away. Taking Saddle Road, it's less than an hour to the Mauna Kea Visitor Center and about one and a half hours to Hilo. Volcanos National Park is about 1.5 hours drive. Centrally located, Waikoloa Village is a great home base for exploring all that the Big Island has to offer.
If you require more space, an optional studio (third bedroom, bath and kitchenette) is available. It is newly furnished, with king bed and both indoor and outdoor dining sets. Rates listed below only apply to the 2 bedroom home. If you are interested in the house with studio, please contact the home owners.
After working in the San Francisco Bay Area for 20 years, we relocated to the Big Island in 2010 to pursue our dreams. We raise sheep and grow veggies and fruit on a small farm on the Hamakua Coast just north of Hilo.
While we love our rural life in East Hawaii, we also enjoy relaxing on the north (Kohala) coast beaches, which we consider to be the Big Island's best. After a day of snorkeling, we often end up at Lava Lava Beach Club, at A-bay in the Waikoloa Resort, for the relaxed atmosphere, live music and great sunsets.
Since we live here, and so appreciate all the Big Island has to offer, we're pleased to share information about all the fantastic places to explore on our island. If you like to cook and enjoy farmers markets, we can help out with recommendations. We're also happy to provide tips on local restaurants.
We sure hope you'll enjoy spending time at our Waikoloa Village vacation home as much as we do.
We purchased our Kona side vacation home because of it's wonderful year round weather and close proximity to our favorite north coast beaches, the same ones often featured on the Travel Channel. We enjoy swimming in the turquoise waters, snorkeling among sea turtles, tropical fish and colorful coral reefs. Picnicing, lounging and reading on the beach all come in a close second.
We're drawn to the home's relaxing indoor/outdoor spaces. At day's end, we're on the lanai with cool drinks in hand watching the sunset colors unfold. We enjoy the mature tropical landscaping with palms, plumeria and avocado and banana trees.
We found the home's floor plan appealing, the living room kitchen and dining room share one big space, opening to a lanai with outdoor dining set. The two bedrooms are located on opposite ends of the great room and a third optional bedroom/bathroom is a separate studio with kitchenette.
We like having a house rather than a condominium. The location on a quiet cul-de-sac feels private. Our neighbors are full time residents. While our home is located only 35 minutes north of the Kona airport and Costco we appreciate being away from the congestion of Kailua-Kona.
Enjoy a splendid view of the Kohala Mountains. The partial ocean view offers dramatic colors at sunset. On clear days, Maui can be seen looming above the horizon
Swim and snorkel the Big Island's best beaches, explore the charming Kohala Coast plantation towns, shop the Waimea Farmers' Markets all at a fraction of the cost.
