Lovely Flat in Reykjavik
My wife and I spent a week in Reykjavik in June 2013. The apartment was wonderful: very clean, plenty of room, comfortable bed, and lots of light from the large living room windows. The kitchen was well-equipped for basic cooking needs, the bathroom was a nice size (also, it was attractive and the water worked well), and the living room is quite spacious with a large television and DVD/CD player (which came in handy to test some CDs we had bought downtown).
The owners are very friendly and helpful. They even offered the use of their hot tub, which we enjoyed one evening.
The flat is a short drive to downtown Reykjavik--probably about 10 minutes or so, depending on traffic. It is also possible to walk downtown (which we did), but you should enjoy walking if you do this (depending on your route, it will probably take between 45 minutes to an hour to reach the main shopping area--so check the weather forecast before your walk). Note that the flat is not in the heart of downtown Reykjavik--which can be an advantage depending on your plans (e.g., it makes driving in and out of Reykjavik (day trips for hikes in the countryside) quicker and easier). It is within easy walking distance of a grocery store, bakery, and a large (American-style) shopping mall (also with a grocery store).
Overall, this is a great apartment, wonderful owners, and we recommend it to friends travelling to Iceland. If you want an apartment right in the city center (e.g., you plan to spend most of your time in the city center and want a quick and easy walk to and from the pubs), look at the location carefully--it probably isn't for you (however, if you plan on driving into the center (and Iceland has a driving culture), then the apartment would still be great). Personally, we only went into the city center a few times. We were more interested in exploring nature than shopping. So, for us, the apartment was very nice. It was close enough to downtown for a decent walk (note: we had lovely weather during our stay), but it was ideally suited for using Reykjavik as a home-base for day excursions to the surrounding nature sites.
