The Ka'u region of the Big Island boasts some of the best weather around. With temperatures usually between 75-85 degrees and sunny, there really is no need for warm weather clothes or A/C. The air quality on this part of the island is excellent.

Limes, jackfruit, breadfruit, papayas, oranges, avocados, tangerines, olives, bananas, and macadamia nuts grow naturally on the property and are usually available. My caretaker/property manager Philippe lives on site. His dwelling is connected to the house by roof and deck only. It has it's own entrance and ensures complete privacy from house guests. He is an avid gardener, very friendly, and a great host. He is willing to help you with your vacation plans and needs, as well as make your stay on the property as enjoyable as possible. He is also a licensed massage therapist and can provide incredible therapeutic massages on-site with advanced notice. Philippe has many beautiful vegetable gardens that he also shares with the guests. They have some great organic greens including broccoli, kale, and lettuce just to name a few.

Aloha and thank you for visiting my website. My name is Seán Barré, I am a lifelong musician, and I currently reside in Los Angeles, California. I work for a music production company based out of Hollywood. I am very involved with this property and spend time there every year. I enjoy going out of my way to make sure that when guests choose to vacation with me, they leave with a positive and unforgettable experience.

Sean David Barre' purchased this house in 2005

This location is special in many ways. It has that 'Real Hawaii' feel about it. It is very scenic, with many unique attractions. The 'country' atmosphere creates a very quiet, peaceful, and serene environment. It is the southern most part of land in the United States (more than Key West). The weather is usually sunny, 75-85 degrees, with modest rain and no Vog, as well as good humidity.

The beautiful panoramic ocean view from the huge deck is literally breath taking. Star gazing at night from it is out of this world. The rolling hills and lush scenery are a true blessing to wake up to. There are many natural growing fruit trees, and the property provides great safety, seclusion, as well as privacy from other vacationers/caretaker. There are two very friendly dogs on site named Kona and Hana that are brother and sister. Every guest I have ever had really enjoys my dog Kona's company. He is a bit of a Rock Star on the property, and he has a great temperament.

Property was very nice beautiful view and house was very comfortable. However we did have a power outage, which are not uncommon, and there were no candles or other sources other than 1 flashlight which was very dim. Also there were no matches or anything to light the bar-b-que with. Also couldn't get the fireplace to light and it was rather cool and had been raining.
Property and house were very clean and well maintained, I would recommend this property to friends or relatives.

An enjoyable 25 day stay close to all destinations on the south side of the Big Island.
Facilities were very nice, caretaker Philipe, was helpful and responsive., and the fresh greens and fruit from the gardens were a delightful plus. Breads from the local bakery were to die for. The resident labs greeting us on our daily returns made it seem like we were truly home.

We did like the space, and the view. The house is in a quiet location close to the South Point. My only hesitation is that the house was not as clean as I thought it should be, but the owner has expressed that he will improve in that aspect.
The kitchen is high end with good appliances, although previous renters did not always appreciate this. The location is fantastic, fruits in the garden, very friendly dogs and above all very quiet, so if you are looking for a soul invigorating rental, with access to the Kona Coast and the Volcano Park, this is your paradise.

Lovely Home

We had a lovely time at this home. With one exception -- about which I have corresponded with the owner, who passed the information to the caretaker, and I have no doubt that it will be dealt with appropriately -- the house was clean and quite welcoming.

The exception was the fold-out couch, which was not suitable for use, but I think nobody had ever mentioned it before. Now that it's been brought to the owner's (and caretaker's) attention, I have no doubt that it will be cleaned and usable for the next guests.

The only other downside is that the house is not suitable for those with disabilities...or if there's a way for people who have challenges in walking to enter, I couldn't find them. Lots of stairs, and the first step up the front walkway is a doozy. For most of us that wasn't an issue, but my husband and I both have hip issues, and it was a bit of a challenge getting in and out. (Because we don't want to admit that we're getting older, it didn't occur to me to ask ahead of time.)

The view is spectacular, the grounds are well-maintained, and there's plenty of storage in the house.

I would definitely recommend this property to anybody wanting to stay in the area. It was surprisingly easy to find, considering how out-of-the way it is!

We stayed here with our 2- 3 year old twins and couldn't have been happier! The acreage was beautiful, the view terrific and the house roomy and welcoming. The location is perfect for us as it feels remote but is only a 10 minute drive to Na'alehu (bakery, gas station/general store and restaurant) or Oceanview which has a grocery store. The house has beautiful woodwork and island charm throughout. The satelite TV was a big plus for those too-early mornings while adjusting to island time and the great room layout of the livingroom, kitchen and dining room made the house feel roomy and welcoming. We comfortably had 9 family members over for dinner, in addition to our 4. It is also ~40 minutes from 2 different lovely beach locations. I highly reccomend this spot and hope we can stay here again on our next trip to visit family. The proptery owner, Sean, was quick in communicating and very accomodating. The property manager, Phillipe, was very nice and welcoming but also the perfect amount of distant so we felt taken care of but not watched over. I highly reccomend this property.
