Magnificent house unprofessionally run

2 of 5
Submitted: April 2, 2013 Stayed: March 2013
Our family of five stayed in this beautiful house for a week in late March, 2013. Furniture is full of character, there were fresh flowers and the house is like out of a movie. When we arrived the house was icy cold, owner gave solution on how to turn the heating only in two hours' periods, part of the bedrooms were with clothes on the floor and garbage under the beds. During our stay the husband drove around the house three times a day and this was a private state, so it felt some how intrusive and weird. The worst part is that we had a gas leak, had to call the firemen and move to a hotel the last two days of our stay. The landlady had her telephone off and had not left any other emergency number, so we had to leave the house late at night and look for a place to sleep. If you go to stay in this house be aware of the fact that it used to be a bed and breakfast and the owners have to learn how to run a self catering property.
Owner's Response: Eva. Booked four rooms owner occupied, she wanted to book the best rooms, and so i assured her she would have them, not only that but, i put an extra bed in one of the rooms, to allow for an all boys together room. The four best rooms were two on one floor and one on another one. I noticed Eva was not happy minutes on arrival however, as she said she was cold as she lived in spain i assumed it was just a climate adjustment, anyhow i showed her the temperature settings for the heating and since i could not quantify myself what heating they would need, i showed them how to use it themselves to set their own temperature settings. And instead of an owner occupied house, on arrival they got an added bonus as i chose to give them the use of the entire house on their own which i think was very good for a period house of its kind and for the money they paid. They proceded to pick rooms on arrival which were not prepared for them and i prepared three additional rooms for her children even though she only booked three in total firstly. I telephoned them midway through their stay, and Eva told me they were having a fantastic time and the house was beautiful and so i was happy and i felt i could relax knowing they were having a good time. There was no gas leak we do not have gas in the house. I did tell Eva, they would have 265 litres of oil to use for their stay and if they used it up they would need to buy more. However, despite the fact that i left the tank half full, i ensured they got another delivery of 200liters which they got, midway through the week, , i telephoned Eva on Friday and she said she had left on the Thursday a day early, citing a gas leak..The aga gives off a standard odour when it runs out, so i can only assume the house was an oven for the duration until the heat ran out and so did they. I am sorry for the fact they felt they had to complain, the house was left equipped with food and drink, logs and briquettes for the open fires, and a host of other non essentials and i gave them the very best of my attention. The failed to ring me on my number that i had advertised on my website, this was the number i asked them to ensure to keep with them during their holiday. The best i can do Eva is offer you or your firends a free weekend of your choice, but please be assured that i have had many satisfied families for self catering and i do hope i will have more in the future. I wish you all the best in the future and thats all i can say Regards, Anne.

Wedding Base

5 of 5
Submitted: February 17, 2011 Stayed: May 2010
Our Group stayed for family wedding, in May 2010. There was 18 in our family gathering. It was great as there was lots of room for everyone and a great base, with lots to do. The house itself was full of the character. We loved the basement and games room, and it was great we could all stay in the same place. We had some good nights in the local pub and it was nice to walk back home. We all went paintballing which was a blast, and we also went golfing, the local course was on the grounds of an estate house, with excellent resturant and course. We took in some good nights in the Mullingar town only 10 mins drive. all in all it was a perfect trip and we would stay again!

Thanks again for all,

Wonderful Holiday!

5 of 5
Submitted: February 12, 2011 Stayed: February 2010
We stayed in this wonderful period house in February with our teenage children.
We arrived saturday 20th for one week. The Owners of the property were most helpful, particularly prior to arrival to assist and were very helpful with pre bookings and ensuring they had a handle on the type of holiday we were looking for and were on hand to arrange any pre arrival shops, catering or alternatives
that we wished.

The kids enjoyed the billiard table and many a good night was had in the basement. We had a party night in the basement, the bar has a great irish feel to it and we met up with our friends for a great 50th Party. The large log fires were cosy and the views were great, All the logs were provided for the fires. The house had a very cosy feel to it & the owners gave us loads of pointers on what to do in the area. We did get out and about and fitted in quite a lot activities, clayshooting, fishing, boat rides, theatre, cinema, and golf and equestrian.
I must say there was plenty to keep our teenagers from getting
bored.

I would highly recommend this property, as it is a great base and there was lots to do.
