Tahoe City and North Shore is the perfect family getaway. Its quiet, easy to get to the resorts, downtown Tahoe City has great little restaurants and in the summer you can bike right to all the trails right from the home. In the winter, you can access miles of cross country trails right out the back. It has been a perfect choice!!!
Peacefull surroundings, always plowed roads, and close to Tahoe City as well as the major ski resorts. The large fireplace and open kitchen makes for a cozy afternoon at home.

For my 40th birthday I wanted to get my favorite people in the world together for an extended weekend of togetherness. This place turned out to be the perfect gathering spot for us!
The house was so much more beautiful than we were expecting from the pictures. Something about the photos in the ad seem stark and sterile to me, so when we walked into this beautifully appointed home, we were pleasantly surprised by how lovely, warm and inviting it is.
With a number of amazing chefs in the tribe, the state of the kitchen was important to us. Vacation homes can have minimally stocked kitchens, so some of us brought cooking gear from home to be safe, but we needn't have bothered. The kitchen is fabulously stocked with very decent cookware and gadgets. (Rice cooker, quesadilla maker, crock pot, plus a wide array of good pots and pans and knives, etc.) Between the wonderful open layout of the kitchen/living room and the generously appointed kitchen, our chefs had a field day!
We also really appreciated how much bedding there was. Every closet had extra blankets so that even the coldest-blooded among us was able to stay nice and toasty. The pool table and hot tub both provided excellent entertainment and we kept fires roaring in the fireplace and wood burning stove. All in all, we had a great time!

Perfect Cabin!

This cabin was perfect for my group of 10 young professionals! It was equipped with everything we needed: cooking necessities, awesome movies, a hot tub, and even had sleds and an extra pair of gloves. Everyone had a place to sleep, a place to eat, and an ample amount of space to drink.
The only thing we wish we would've had? a longer stay!
The owner is also easy to work with and very accommodating. We're already talking about another trip!

We stayed at Highlands Valhalla for the Tahoe Marathon weekend in Sept. Four children and three families were represented in our party. The location was great--near to town but not in town. The home was spacious and sufficient for our needs. It is good to remember that it is a little more "rustic" (as the owner had mentioned) then the pictures might suggest. Also we would have liked to know that the room with the bunk beds is a "pass through room", connecting one of the queen bed rooms to the rest of the house. Worked for us, but it would have been good to know ahead of time. We really appreciated some of the little touches--shampoo and soap in the bathrooms and basic pantry items in the kitchen. We had one question during our stay, and the owner quickly responded to our phone call. The home was clean and well-maintained, with the possible exception of a high number of spider webs inside and out (I actually broke a web on the staircase when I first entered the property), and measurable dust behind the furniture. The owner said he would address the dust behind the furniture with his cleaning crew.
We would recommend the property.

The Perfect Girls Weekend

What a beautiful and comfortable home. My girlfriends just spent 5 days in HIghlands Valhalla and were not disappointed in the least. There were a couple of glitches in the beginning but I called the owner and he called back immediately and....problems solved, questions answered. In one of the previous reviews, someone had complained about the cold bedroom downstairs. This is the one that I chose and loved it. We will definitely stay here again whether it be with my whole family or just the girls. This is a beautiful home.

Quite Disappointing

The home was quite comfortable. However, there were difficulties which made the stay quite unpleasant. The home had pest control problems. Also, the BBQ was in deplorable condition with rusted out burners. The grills kept falling into the flames. As a consequence flames would flare up creating a dangerous situation. When I preheated the oven smoke started coming into the kitchen. When I opened the oven door the smoke billowed out and the smoke alarm went off. The oven was incredibly filthy dirty with grease build up. It was completely unusable, so we were unable to cook in the home.
My correspondence with the owner has gone unanswered. We have used VRBO many times and have never had such a disappointing situation. I would confirm that these problems are remedied before renting this home.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately, every now and then a guest has expectations for a vacation in Tahoe with visions of a 5-star resort and not a beautiful home in the woods where you do experience all sides of nature, Including an ant finding its way into the home now and then. As for the cleanliness, the home and hot tub is professionally cleaned after each guest's stay and any discrepanices in its condition are dealt with quickly and diligently upon arrival. I proudly defend and uphold the exempleray condition of this home as I bring my own family, guests and associates here frequently, As for this review however, after I refused to refund this guests nightly meals out after their "claim's" of an unusable oven, they have taken it upon themsleves to berate the condition of the home and exact their revenge in this manner.

I arranged a "girl's weekend" at this cabin and we had a blast! The cabin is beautiful and very comfortable. It easily slept eight adults and was in a great location (close to a grocery store and fun restaurants in Tahoe City). I would definitely recommend staying here!

Perfect Tahoe Vacation!

We stayed here in February and absolutely loved it! The home looked as spectacular in person as it did in the photos. The layout was excellent as we were able to give the kids the downstairs for the evening to play pool and videos, while the adults hung out upstairs with wine and a big fire. Getting to the Squaw took only a few minutes and with the home being close to Tahoe City, we were able to get our groceries easily. The beds were absolutely cozy and the hot tub on the deck, was the perfect intimate retreat after a long day of skiing. I recommend this place highly to anyone!

This wonderful home was like home away from home. We spent 3 nights, Our family members represented 3 generations with 6 adults and 3 tikes. It was the best accomodations we have had of its type: Clean, well appointed, nice lay out. We will definitely want to stay again.

This is a beautiful home with lots to do! The pictures do not do it justice. Great place to take the kids. There was lots of room for them to roam around both inside and out, and the game room downstairs with the TV and video games is like a den for the kids. We hardly ever saw them. The beds were comfortable as was the furniture. We are already looking forward to visiting again next year...this time for a longer stay.

This house was beautiful inside and out. There are great cross country ski trails right outside the back door. The school down the street was great for sledding.
The bunk beds were not very sturdy and the bedroom downstairs in the very back gets icy cold at night.
Must be very careful with small children, stairs and railings made us a bit nervous.
Would definetly stay here again.
