Great place for a get away

The house is compact but has every amenity one might need. And it's in nearly new condition (in 5/2013). I had my two dogs with me and they both gave the house two paws up. We could leave the house in the morning and walk to the bay in 5 minutes. It's only a block from Lighthouse, the main thoroughfare in Pacific Grove, where there are lots of place to eat and window shop. The immediate area is very quiet. If you have trouble negotiating stairs, this might not be the place for you, but for a couple or two couples I don't know what more you could want.

The owner, Terry, was a joy to work with and very thoughtful. I was there for my 60th birthday and she left me a card and bottle of wine. Much appreciated.

We just got home after enjoying a lovely stay at The Historic Lavendar house. This is one of the best VRBO rentals we've stayed at. The house is immaculate, well decorated and so very welcoming. The attention to detail that the owner,Terry, went to is impressive. The home was built in the early 1900s
(I think 1905) and it was restored to its original glory, claw foot tub, stained glass window, old fashioned light swtches, the list goes on and on. Everything is high quality; the flooring, countertops, bathroom tile, the linens, all kitchen related items and of course the sleep number beds. We've been to many rentals that skimp out on quality mattresses. Well not here. I can honestly say I slept great here....so great that I will be purchasing a sleep number bed. Enough about the bed. We wanted to see the windflowers along the coast this spring and couldn't have timed it more perfectly. The house is just a few minutes walk from the ocean. There is a great trail that parallels the coast with many people out jogging, walking and riding their bikes. The flowers were amazing! A carpet of pink that made a great backdrop for photos. Also within walking distance are many restaurants. There is a list of "top10" Pacific Grove restaurants that Terry has put together. We had some very nice meals and found that many places with outside dining allow you to bring your dog. Just some other nice touches that other reviewers may nor have mentioned. There were two 5 gallon containers of fresh drinking water for us, a container of vanilla "silk" soy milk coffee creamer in the refrigerator and really nice smelling soaps, shampoos and lotion were all included. We really felt like welcomed guests at this house. Our yellow lab had a ball going up and down the stairs. The yard is not huge but is big enough on the side for a game of fetch with your pooch which we did every day.
Lastly Terry, the owner, is wonderful to work with. We wrote a few e-mails to her over the course of the trip and she got right back to us. We plan to come back during Monarch season and we will be staying here.

Owner's Response: We appreciate this nice review from our thoughtful guest but we did want to correct a misperception. The Historic Lavender House is located on one of the oldest bi-directional streets in Pacific Grove's historic district. Some folks from larger cities might consider them alleys but, in fact, they are very quiet, little traveled streets that were created when there were few cars and most residents walked or rode horses.

A Beautiful, Sophisticated Home

It's hard to know where to begin complimenting this beautiful home!

The House: this house has been very recently restored, finished and furnished beautifully. It is exceptionally clean and well decorated. The photos don't do it justice - the house is full of careful Victorian details and fixtures - better than a top level B&B. Stained glass windows, claw-foot tub, enameled or crystal door knobs, this house is full of the period details that make it feel rich and luxurious.

The Extras You Don't Expect: Top quality sheets, blankets and towels and Sleep Number beds! Little shampoos and soaps, beach towels, a blue ray player, movies, books, nice board games, and a brand new washer and dryer. The furniture is quality, and the carpets & floors are high-end. And it was quiet. So if a peaceful sleep is an important part of your vacation, this is a great choice.

The Location: One block behind the ice cream shop end of Lighthouse (the main downtown street), it was a 90-second walk to Toasties for breakfast, and a 5 minute walk to Lover's Point. There is a kid's playground/park 1 block away (close enough to be handy, far enough away to not hear it from the house). We parked the car and walked everywhere all weekend, even to the aquarium. Everything was so close by, and yet you're on a quiet street with little traffic - it was perfect.

We loved every minute at this home.

Who Shouldn't Stay Here: Honestly, if you're looking for a well-used, indestructible rental where you don't worry so much about tracking in a little sand or your kids throwing the ball inside, this isn't your place. This is the kind of house where kids roughhouse outside and come in to relax, eat or read (did I mention the stained glass windows?) and automatically know to wipe their feet before they come in. It's not fussy, but it's a *nice place*. Also, there is a seriously steep stair/ladder to the 3rd floor where the twin beds are. It's a natural place for the kids to want to be, but challenging if they are little, accident prone, or daredevils. Perfect place for adults or mellow older kids.

Thank you for such an amazing stay! Our family LOVED the Lavender House! The amenities and attention to detail in this restored Victorian are wonderful! The luxurious claw foot tub, rain shower, beautiful & comfortable furnishings...all were fantastic. We appreciated the special touches immensely...stocked refrigerator, bath & body products...it felt like we were staying in a luxury hotel. Not to mention the cute loft area! The kids loved staying up there and the view was terrific! Plus the yard was the perfect size for the kids and the garage and parking were perfect for our bikes and beach gear. In addition, the location was absolutely perfect! It was quiet and within walking distance to everything we love about Pacific Grove. We walked with the kids to Lovers Point, played at the amazing playground right outside the door and enjoyed all the fabulous cafes and restaurants in the quaint downtown. Plus, we were a short (about a mile) bike ride to the Pinos Point Lighthouse and another short (about 1 mile) ride to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We've been staying in Pacific Grove with our family for the past 5 years and this was by far our best stay! The price, features, location and amenities were just right for us! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

The Perfect Getaway

The Victorian Lavender House is the perfect vacation getaway. It is beautifully finished inside and out and extremely comfortable - the attention to detail is evident throughout. The Loft, Cottage, and Gothic bedrooms were quiet and cozy. The kids loved the loft bedroom with its panoramic view of the surrounding neighborhood and Monterery Bay. The kitchen is fully outfitted, which kept restaurant bills to a minimum. Everyone had fun making phone calls to friends using the antique phone! The Lavender House is amazingly close to just about everything... downtown Pacific Grove (literally steps away), the Ocean, the Aquarium, Cannery Row, Carmel, etc. We'll definitely be coming back next year!
