We've finished our remodel, and are open for our guests. Spend your next vacation at this newly remodeled oceanside house on one of the most famous Oregon beaches. You'll love the master bedroom with private bath and deck access, second bedroom with ocean view, bunk room with 6 twin beds, and an additional two bathrooms! What makes this house unique
After years of renting our original charming beachfront house (VRBO 399113) in this lovely area, and tired of turning guests away from our solidly booked vacation rental, we found the perfect house to fill the qualities our guests are looking for: easy beach access, comfort, charm, fabulous views, and modern updates for a casual, relaxing experience.
Eric Bergstrom purchased this house in 2012
Kim's family has a long history on this unique stretch of the beautiful north Oregon coast. Her grandfather, familiar with the area from working with the railroad, brought his family from Hillsboro to vacation here. Her father, after graduating from Pacific University in Forest Grove, bought property at the foot of Neah-kah-nie and built a much loved family vacation home in 1960. Kim and Eric married on the beach house lawn, adjacent to their beloved beach on a sunny August day in 1986. Why Manzanita? Where else?! It's our slice of heaven!
Having a second vacation house was just a tiny idea when Kim spotted the for sale sign in the front yard of this charming house. Luckily she has an artist's eye and could easily see the wonderful aspects of the property - fabulous, expansive views, right on the beach, short walk to the great shops and restaurants of Manzanita, and a front seat to all the wonderful things that make this beach one of the most popular on the north coast! Not to mention the cozy interior with the cobblestone fireplace. With just a little work, high end designer touches and big new windows, our gem right on Manzanita beach shines!

Beautiful house, excellent location!

We just returned from a weekend at this lovely house. We have stayed in Manzanita several times before and this was by far the cleanest and most comfortable of the houses we have rented. The house is very spacious and we found it very accommodating (we were sharing it with another couple and their infant). We put our own toddler to sleep in the downstairs room and she is typically a light sleeper but she slept soundly while the adults stayed up talking and playing board games. The beds are all comfortable and clean and the linens are all very cozy. The owners really did not overlook any details... the downstairs bunk beds each have a very soft, plush blanket and the bathrooms were spotless and modern. Most of the other rentals we have stayed in definitely had more of a cabin/lived in feel and this was cozy but had many wonderful luxurious touches.
As other reviewers noted, there is some foot traffic on the road outside but the house is located such a short walk to town that it's worth it. (We have stayed further from the town and there were fewer passersby but I liked not having to drive to get to the town). And the road doesn't interfere at all with the incredible view or the ease of walking right out the door to the beach.
The spiral staircase and hard flooring (concrete downstairs) might make some parents nervous but the overall decor and furniture in the house is very kid friendly. We just reminded our daughter to be very cautious on the staircase and she didn't have any issues. Also, make sure to bring your own sand toys, board games, etc. The house is well equipped with books though.
(Lastly, this house was by far the easiest/least stressful one I have rented in regards to cleaning up before check out time. In past houses in Manzanita, we have sometimes had to wash and dry all or most of the linens and remake the beds before leaving. It makes it very stressful to get out of the house on time and makes the final morning hectic. In this house, we simply ran the dishwasher after breakfast, then stripped the linens and towels and took them to the laundry room and got the loads started. We emptied the dishwasher and we were finished. My husband and I both commented on how much easier it was to relax on our final morning and get packed up in a reasonable amount of time.)

Well this home is a treat, the décor is lovely, great front porch line in Adirondacks looking onto the beach. Beds were super comfy, my kiddos thought bunkbeds were awesome, kitchen was well stocked with basics, plenty of plates, flatware, etc. the downstairs entrance was very helpful with our sand covered children, straight shot to the bathtub. Just all around well set up house with ample room for our group of 4 adults and 3 children!

Great House, Fantastic View

We stayed for a week in April with our three children in their 20's and their significant others. It was a wonderful week. We loved the home, which we found to be bigger than it looks, especially the downstairs area. Having two decks was great, lots of outdoor comfortable seating. Loved that it was such a short walk to get a few groceries or go out for some food. The beach is wonderful to take long walks on. Overall the house was very well equipped, a few things seemed missing so it's good to check with Kim beforehand if you have questions (such as no blender). We loved the feel of the home and the way it was decorated very modern, without the clutter of stuff that makes you feel like you are in someone else's home.
The property was totally as advertised, was ready and clean on arrival, and communications were great. Internet died during our stay but owner came to replace modem which solved the problem.
The one negative that might make me think twice about returning, especially during the summer or a busy weekend, is that there is a road right in front, between you and the amazing view. On the weekend it was quite busy with cars (and even a motor home) parking right in front of our view. Most of the week it was fairly quiet though.

This house was just perfect for us! The owners have done an excellent job with the remodel, they have modernized it with a lot of high end features while still keeping the cozy beach house feel. It is so much bigger than we were expecting too. The downstairs has it's own family room area, bedroom with six bunks and a bathroom, plus a large area to come in and take off sandy shoes etc. The circular staircase going up to the main floor is a nice touch as well. The space down there was just perfect for the teens, they used that entrance for coming and going to the beach too, so the upstairs stayed "sand free" which I loved! The upstairs is a great layout as well, the entire living/kitchen/dining area looks out at the beautiful beach. While we just had our own family for this trip, this house would work great for two families, the adults take the upstairs and the kids can have the whole downstairs. Loved the location too, just walk across the street to the beach or take the two minute walk into town. The town is very friendly and laid back with some cute shops, restaurants, a candy store and ice cream shop. The kids rented fun-cycles to ride on the beach and had a great time, highly recommend those. We have been going to Cannon Beach for the last 15 years but we might have found a new favorite place in Manzanita! Plus Cannon Beach is only a gorgeous 15 minute drive away! We are hoping to plan a summer trip back down there and we would absolutely rent this house again if it was available!

What a beautiful home set in the perfect location just across the road from the beach. Lots of space in a great room with huge corner fireplace and glass doors and windows that look out to the ocean. You can sit on the sofa and gaze at the distant waves. Simply breathtaking, and so relaxing. Well equipped kitchen, big dining table, comfy beds, and a spiral staircase down to a den that's good for watching night time movies. We left a few menus behind and hopefully other guests will add to the collection. The decor is very pretty and everything feels so new.

....because this place is fabulous and if too many people find out we'll have to beat folks away for availability! ;)
We stayed with our 2 1/2 year old and ten month old and had a wonderful time. One of the things we love about Kim's houses is the decor. It is clean and not full of a million knick-knacks making the houses very kid friendly. At least for our kids. There are 'handles' on the kitchen cabinets and sharp corners on the tables, but with very little 'baby proofing' we had a very comfortable stay. We were also able to bring a tension baby gate to block of the stairs for our 10 month old (it fit in the hall). There is lots of open floor space to play on too!
The access to the beach is hard to beat. It was fairly stormy while we were there but we were still able to enjoy our stay because the house is very comfortable and the beach is right in front of us! The kitchen was well appointed and had just what we needed for cooking our meals. It is important to note that the fridge is essentially emptied between guests (which personally, I like), but if there is something you really need to have, don't assume it will be on hand. There is an IGA and small grocery store near by to pick up whatever you might need too.
Something to be aware of is that this isn't a very private location. The house is at street level (which is apparent in the pictures) and while the street isn't super busy with cars, there are a few that go by and a lot of joggers and walkers who like to admire how nicely the interior is finished too! So many times we would smile and wave at folks throughout the day. For us this wasn't a big deal, but for some that may be an issue. Hint: if you want privacy, you should check out Kim's other house... :)
The only thing that was frustrating was that the fire wood wasn't covered or protected from the weather. The fireplace is fabulous and we enjoyed using it, but trying to dig through the wood to find something that wasn't soaked was a bit of a chore. It is a perfect location for people who want to be close to town and the wonderful things Manzanita has to offer. We think of this house as potentially a more active house and our other house as more secluded. As they've gotten older, our kids enjoy this house more. They are closer to more activities and charming Manzanita, yet we enjoy also being able to stay indoors and take in the huge view. As another guest said so well, even on stormy days one feels like you are still open to the wonderful beach and ocean, yet are protected inside by the cozy living room by the big fireplace. The other wonderful thing about this house is how quiet it is. I love waking up in the master bedroom to the wonderful sound of the waves on the beach off the private deck, and the view of the shore pine tree. The other think I love is having the kids (teens) able to be in a different area of the house so I don't hear them! It's a great house, and we look forward to having you back again.

Super Location and Awesome House!!

What a great quick vacation! We really needed time away and this was the perfect place. Was very quiet and peaceful, great place for a quick walk to town, or just steps to the beach for a long beach walk. The beach here is supposed to be something like five or eight miles long, but we didn't attempt to test that out! The house was as beautiful as everyone has said. Quiet, peaceful, super location and awesome house. We are definitely staying here when we need to get away.
