Beautiful location for relaxing family getaway
My parents and I were looking for a quiet and warm getaway spot over the holidays (we live in chilly Canada). We wanted a place right on the beach with access to a pool and not far from restaurants. Residencias Reef was perfect for us!
We were honoured to be the first guests of this place. Located mere steps from the beach and stone's throw away from 2 lovely pools, we found this a great place to recharge after a busy year. The owners left us a lovely welcome basket upon arrival full of snacks and drinks. We adjusted to vacation life in the condo very quickly as all modern conveniences were available. Connecting to wifi and staying in touch with family and friends was easy. We enjoyed making meals in the condo and having a glass of wine on the porch or the rooftop deck (the view of the sunsets from the rooftop were gorgeous).
We decided to rent a car which we would definitely recommend to future guests. The condo is located about a 15 minute drive from the town and all restaurants. Getting around is extremely easy as the island is not that big. We used the car to visit Punta Sur Eco Park, Coconuts (a fun cliffside restaurant/bar), and Bob Marley's Jamaican-inspired restaurant.
You can buy a day pass to resorts nearby if you wish to experience "all inclusive for a day." Some are more expensive than others. We did not purchase a day pass but worked out a deal with the snorkel gear guys at a resort about 25 steps down the beach. Snorkelling off the beach is not bad but the best thing to do is go on a snorkel trip (we highly recommend Papa Hogs!). The boat picks you up right at the pier in front of Secrets Resort (next door to Residencias Reef). We recommend bringing water shoes as the beach can be a little rocky.
All in all it was a lovely week and we are definitely considering returning and having more family members rent out some nearby condos. The area is perfect for scuba divers and snorkellers.
Recommendations to make your trip even better:
- rent a car, stock up on food and drinks at Mega or Chedraui (you pass them on your way to the condo)
- bring water shoes
- take a snorkel/scuba dive trip (or 2!)
- explore the island (especially Punta Sur)
- relax and enjoy yourself :)
The owners - Steve and Raeone - are very accommodating people. Their property manager, Fulvio, is very nice and will do whatever it takes to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Elida, the housekeeper, does an excellent job.
