I designed and had this cottage and pool built in 2004, with the idea of creating a lush tropical getaway for my husband and myself. Since we were living on the East End of Long Island with its cold long winters, the property provided much needed periodic escapes to a warmer, softer and slowed down environment- reminding us both of the comfort from the Connecticut summers we grew up in.
I discovered Sarasota about 15 years ago when some artist friends of mine were moving down there for the winter. I went to visit and was instantly hooked by all the lush, natural beauty- including Selby Gardens and Lido beach to name just a few outdoor attractions-as well as the step back in time appeal of the place. In fact , there is an historic Opera house that was brought over from Scotland and where Operas with international stars perform all winter long. There is The West Coast Symphony and Van Weasel Concert Hall that gets performers like the Vienna Choir Boys on a regular basis- So I found it a perfect combination of culture and natural beauty to sooth our weary souls!
This property is is unique in its proximity to downtown and a Whole Foods Market, while at the same time being exceedingly private and romantic ,and then a minutes walk to a kayak dock that will transport you to the bay! A great space for a couple who wants to reconnect!
