Our place on Beaucatcher is a modern, loft-style apartment that has everything you need and suits the vacationer or business traveler. This house clings onto the side of Beaucatcher mountain on a dead-end road giving one the feel of truly being in the mountains but only 1.5 miles from the center of downtown.
The apartment is open and airy and has a nice, new kitchen if you wish to cook, or just warm-up some left-overs from one of the many downtown eating establishments. We designed and built this multi-family house 20 years ago and the main unit served as our home for several years. This particular unit has been recently renovated and is equipped with brand new furnishings. We have just opened this unit up as vacation rental for folks to take advantage of it's proximity and architectural character.
We believe you will truly enjoy your 'repose' time dwelling in this clean, 'clutter free' apartment. It is bright and open, yet very comfortable, cozy and intimate. If you are looking for something sleek, unique, and close to everything, then this apartment will satisfy your vacation desires and help create a memorable stay here in scenic Asheville.
I am a local architect and Asheville native and my wife Sherry is also a native of the area. Sherry has formerly worked as the manager/buyer for Grovewood Gallery for over 20-years and is heavily involved with promoting local arts and crafts. My firm concentrates primarily on healthcare design and other institutional work.
We built this property as our primary home with rentals units as well and wanted to create a real sense of place on this challenging small, steep lot. The design is a simple vertical scheme with a relatively small footprint reflecting local vernacular yet the interiors are modern. This is an example of sustainable and sensitive design, yet ironically, this type of structure could not be built today given the current ordinance...
We have people who have lived in our units and still say 'we miss that place'. Architecture is about creating a setting for people, and if done well, should instill lasting memories.
