2 bedrooms, 1 bath private apartment in country home, sleeps 4

This is the perfect destination for those vacationers who want easy access to all of Central Florida's attractions (both natural and manmade) plus the serenity and security of life in a country home. This is a daylight basement apartment with a private entrance and patio with table & chairs, grill and extra storage. The setting is lovely, with a view of large oaks and pastures. Deer and quail may be seen in the winter. The apartment is a well planned 900 square feet with fully equipped kitchen, dining area, two bedrooms, one with queen & one with day bed plus a fold out single bed. The living area has a comfortable couch, recliner and loaded bookcase plus flat screen TV, radio/CD player, phone and wireless internet access. Washer and dryer are located in bathroom. All linens are provided with a weekly linen exchange (more on request) and weekly professional cleaning. This is a ten acre property so there is ample room for RV and/or boat parking. RV hookup available for separate fee.

NOTE: We have a very successful first year as a vacation rental. We have made many new friends and are already accepting bookings for the next snowbird season. Don't forget us if you are planning a summer trip also.

About Elizabeth Byrd

My name is Elizabeth Byrd. When people ask me how a 'girl' from Seattle ended up in Central Florida, I say, 'the usual reason..a man!' My husband, Jim, a Miami native, and I met in Seattle. When we decided to move to Florida, we chose Lake County for its beautiful lakes (I can live without mountains but not water), climate, and accessibility to large cities without having to live in one. I discovered right away that sunshine is addictive!

Our children are all grown with their own families. Two live in Lake County and two out of state.

When I first saw this property 23 years ago with its two old houses, I felt like I had come home --which is a pretty far stretch for a city girl! It was perfect for us with its front house for us, a shop for my husband, and the back house for my mother-in-law. We have made lots of changes over the years, the major one being turning mom's house into a rental after she died. The main part of the house has been rented by one person for many years. This is the first time we have furnished the basement apartment and set it up for seasonal rental. My goal was to create a space that I would want to live in...and I did it! We still live on the property in the front house, so we are here to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Come see us soon.

What makes this apartment unique

Did you ever watch 'This Old House?' Well we have two of them. The front house was built in 1924 and the back (rental) house was built in 1936. Like many others in Lake County, the property was originally an orange grove. No orange trees left, but we have lots of beautiful old oaks. The back 5 acres is mostly pasture with some woods in back. Living here keeps us in touch with times gone by when life moved at a slower pace and you took time to watch the breeze ruffle the ferns and smell the roses!

We enjoyed our stay. The apartment was clean, quiet and had everything we needed. We enjoyed the porch with its peaceful view. The location was convenient to the Sanford, Mt. Dora area. There are golf courses close by. We plan on coming back again. The owners were friendly and very helpful. Great place to stay and get away from the cold winters.

When we talked to Beth about booking their rental, she said if you see it you won't want to stay anywhere else. She was right. It is in the country, but close to shopping, restaurants or anything you need. There was plenty of room, full kitchen, nice living room and bedrooms, bathroom. You have your own washer/dryer. Very clean, and peaceful, and the landlords are the nicest people you will ever meet. We will stay there everytime we go to Florida.

Lovely place, gracious hosts

This lovely apartment served as my home away from home for two weeks. I had everything I needed plus Jim and Beth, my hosts, who were ever so gracious making sure I had everything I needed during my stay. There was even coffee for my first morning, a special blessing since I arrived so late the night before and could not make a grocery trip. The apartment is clean and comfortable, the bathroom and kitchen are modern and well-equipped. I would certainly recommend this place for any reason that would bring you to the area. Quiet getaway... a little bit of heaven!

Property, location, and owners were all superb! Nice and clean and very accommodating. Unfortunately for other reasons, unable to rent but a lovely option. If you're looking for a quiet place to relax and enjoy life... look no further. Was willing to allow 2 adult golden retrievers too... perfect location for our four-legged friends!

Great Florida country escape

This is a great cottage for a get-away or longer term. Everything you need is there in a quiet country setting but only 10-12 minutes from town. Close to Mount Dora too. The owners, Jim & Beth, are so gracious and are there to assist you with anything. Very accommodating.Property is as described & very clean. Lovely setting and very comfortable. We will be back!
