Aloha! My name is Carmen Karady and I live in Lahaina. I own two condos here at Lahaina Shores Resort. I have lived in Lahaina for over ten years and teach yoga at the nearby hotel resorts and senior center. In my spare time I volunteer as a tutor at the middle school and am an active member of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise which meets every Tuesday morning at 7 am. I have a wonderful partner, Norman Estin, who is a physician in town, and three grown children. In my heyday, I taught comparative literature and traveled all over the world with the US Navy on board warships. I also lived in Hungary, Bratislava, France and Cairo. I still get to travel to visit my son in Budapest and my daughter who lives in Japan. I have one son who lives on Maui. The terrific news is that I am now a grandmother since February 2012.
Voted as one of the best beach towns in the USA, this is a great location for tourists and locals alike, and it's getting better all the time because many of the historical sites are being renovated.
One of the advantages of living in Lahaina is that you really don't need a car. Everything is in walking distance--from the Banyan Park to the Harbor. The beach is right outside your door, as well as art galleries, museums, churches, restaurants, and shops. The location is really quite convenient.
Hawaii is unique for several reasons: its healing qualities due to the fresh air, sparkling warm ocean, sunshine, and constant year-round ideal temperatures. Not only do the winter birds flock to Maui, but summer birds as well because of the moderate climate. And let's not forget Maui's volcano, Haleakala, 'House of the rising sun,' a pilgrimage well worth taking at dawnbreak. Then there are jungles and waterfalls, golf galore, and day trips to neighboring islands. The list goes on and on.
One of the most unique benefits of this particular location is direct beach access--just walk out the back gate! Next door is the surfing school where you can rent paddle and surf board; and you can join my yoga classes for free.

Great little condo, awesome location
I think Lahaina Shores used to be a hotel, because it has a hotel/resort appearance, especially the entrance/lobby area. Check-in/out is run pretty much like a hotel, as well. Staff at the front desk were pleasant and helpful. We never actually got to meet Carmen, which was too bad, because she was very helpful and was great at maintaining contact, answering questions, etc. throughout the process, as well as while we were there.
The property and room were clean and well maintained. You can have two beds or have them made into a kingsize. We did the kingsize and it was huge and SO comfortable. The view of the West Maui Mountains is really nice from the balcony. I watched the sun come up over the mountains every morning. The pool and jacuzzi are nice and not overly crowded, like staying at a big resort. There is a big grassy area between the pool area and beach with lounge chairs, as well as direct access to the beach right in front. You could spend all day just moving from pool to lounge chairs to beach, walk to town for lunch, then back to pool/grass/beach!
Also, if you have a rental car, Carmen can provide you with a parking space. It costs a little extra, but its SO worth it. The parking spot is right in front of the property, and trying to park in Lahaina is a huge pain. It's crowded and only a few spots are free. You'll end up paying more in 2 hours, than you pay per day for a spot directly in front of where you're staying.
