Photos and Description of the Useless Bay vacation cottage rental
2 Bedroom with Stunning Views and Modern Finishings

Welcome to the simpler times. Make this darling beachhouse oceanfront on Maxwelton Beach, Whidbey Island your home away from home for the week. This cottage consitently draws whispers from all those who pass by, not only because of its dollhouse charm but also because of the endless stunning views of the Puget sound. There is a smooth ocean breeze that lightly gusts through this 1960's era beach house, which has been completely renovated and offers up a modern chic decor at 1960’s pricing. The 150 feet of unobstructed ocean views provide endless sunsets that can be seen from nearly every room in the house. The kitchen and bathroom are detailed with hexagon tile and country cabinets in addition to the modern luxuries of stainless steel appliances. Two queen beds in separate spaces provide enough separation for two couples, yet still give the feeling of a community dwelling.

Low tide brings about 300 feet of sand to explore, and western exposures gives the most sunlight at the desirable Southern end of Whidbey Island.

Newly remodeled listing as of Summer 2012 !

About Joel

We live in Houston, so unfortunately we don't get to spend as much time at our beautiful beach house as we would like. It is impressively taken care of with luxury finishing and incredible style.

Why Joel chose Useless Bay

The beach house is amazing. Many hours have been spent mulling over every piece in on every square foot, and the details are what give it the perfect charm.

Great Home

The house is beautifully done inside and very cozy. The kids had a blast playing in the backyard and the beach was perfect for an adventure. We traveled with a 3 and 6 year old and they loved the setting. We cooked a great dinner and kitchen is well stocked.

Our only minor issue was that we hadn't realized the house sits across the street from the beach and not directly on it. It's a quiet and small street but you do have to cross it to get to the beach. Other than that, the place was fabulous and the owner was very responsive and helpful. Would love to return!

Great weekend get-away

My fiance and I recently stayed here the weekend after Thanksgiving. The cottage was exactly as depicted in the pictures so we were not disappointed. Located just across the street from the beach, the cottage offerred great views and sea breezes. The kitchen was well equipped so it was nice to be able to make use of our Thanksgiving leftovers to extend the holiday feeling throughout the weekend. Langley was a short drive away and they had a really sweet Tree Lighting with holiday carols being sung the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The island charm was just what we needed to get us into the holiday spirit. This cottage was just lovely and I'm sure we'll be back since it's such a short trip from Seattle. Working with Joel was so easy and he even made a great reccommendation for a potential wedding site/venue that we were also able to see that weekend.

Super relaxation with lots to do on Whidbey

Joel and Julia's Beach House is just right for a relaxing stay and a good base for adventuring on Whidbey! Everything is well set up and very comfy. The beach across the street stretches a long way in either direction and is very walkable, particularly at lower tides. Many cool adventures, including wine tours, crafts, cool towns and casual-elegant dining are available in the neighbourhood, and their recommendations are right on the mark. Dinner at the Inn at Langley is a bucket-list dining experience if your wallet can tolerate it :-) We'll be back.

This place is like living in a dream cottage! The view of the beach is amazing and the actual beach even better! The location makes you feel like you are miles away but you have all the comforts of home. We made all of our own meals and ate outside or in the charming kitchen and enjoyed time in front of the wood burning fire place. The loft is incredible and gives privacy for two couples to stay easily. Can't say enough about how lovely this place and the Island are - the place looks even more cozy and perfect than the pics!

Beautiful beach visit

We had an absolutely wonderful weekend stay here in September. The beach
out front is beautiful and we walked the beach for miles everyday. The house is
exceptionally well done, with drastic attention to detail and beauty
featured in everything from the floorboards to the fabrics. The
neighborhood is a true gem and the proximity to the necessities is
fantastic. We will definitely be back, next time for a longer trip. Thank
you Joel for your fantastic communication and service as well. Everything
was just perfect.
