Avoid this apartment
My husband and I just finished a two week stay over the Christmas holiday. Had another option been avaiable, we would have moved on the day after we arrived. The apartment, as advertised is old. Paint was chipping in the one bedroom. Our major complaint was how dirty it was. Both the kitchen floor and the bathroom floor were absolutely filthy. There were crumbs and dirt under the TV console in the living room. I tried to clean the floors with paper towels as we could find no cleaning supplies. Even the dishes in the china cabinet in the kitchen were covered in dust. It was not charming. All of the drawers and many cabinets were taped shut, so my husband ended up leaving his clothes on the top of a
dresser with taped drawers. The closet door in the only bedroom was tied shut and it could not be opened. Plastic tarps covered the bookcases in the living room and what had been turned into a study, giving both rooms a rather inhospitable appearance. We have used VRBO before so were we're not expecting the standards of a hotel, but were certainly expected more than this apartment.
Owner's Response: I have had nearly a dozen guests stay in my apartment via other vacation rental services before listing it on VRBO, and you can see the unanimously favorable reviews on those sites for my apartment. I realize that in any business you get disgruntled customers who have issues that may have nothing to do with you or your business. Rise was a very unpleasant and rude guest from the very beginning. She was apparently disturbed that the apartment was not large enough to accommodate the large number of people she wished to entertain, as she had lived on our street years ago. However, the apartment was clearly listed as a one bedroom with the rooms and dimensions clearly described in the listing. She also complained that she found the interior decorating to be very poor. The pictures of the apartment and rooms are authentically displayed in the listing and we never had such a complaint, in fact quite the opposite from all of our other many guests who found the place and location to be very charming and pleasant. This seems to have been the initial basis for her ire, and she later complained that she had found dust under some tables and the TV console. This might have been possible since I have been abroad and have had the apartment professionally cleaned by a maid service. I tried to immediately respond to her complaints by having the maid resent to the apartment and have it cleaned at her direction. I also offered to have the furniture rearranged according to her desires. However, she rudely turned down my offer and sincere effort to accommodate whatever requests she might have had during her stay, stating that she preferred to leave a harsh review. I understand that guests may not find everything as they hoped or expected during a stay and we sincerely try to accommodate any requests and complaints that a guest may have. This is shown in the uniformly positive reviews I have had until this guest. Sadly, you can't please everyone, even if you try, and they may have issues unrelated to your business which may be beyond your ability to address. I am afraid this was the case with this review which I consider to be malicious and very inaccurate, and from a person who adopted a surprisingly rude and aggressive attitude from the very beginning. Thankfully, this is very much an exception to the wonderful experiences and reviews we have had from all other guests.
