I took my son to Costa Rica for two weeks this summer for a graduation present. Solrisa was our last stop. We stayed four nights. Though we really enjoyed the other two places we stayed, Solrisa was my favorite by far. The view is stunning. Both the swimming pool and the casita deck look out, first, over the beautiful manicured tropical gardens, a favorite hangout for butterflies and hummingbirds. Beyond the gardens are the trees. We got our best views of toucans and aracari from Solrisa. They were always in the trees, about twenty yards away from the back deck. We had a sloth in one of the trees during our whole stay. Finally, beyond the jungle is a spectacular view of the coastline below. I loved to just sit in the pool and enjoy the view. Can't wait to go back with my wife.
The Casita was itself also a very nice surprise, way exceeding my expectations. I was surprised to find all the conveniences of home at the Casita. This was the only place in CR where we could count on hot water. Likewise it was the only place we stayed that had a full sized refrigerator, microwave (though we weren't smart enough to operate), and even a washer and dryer--that was a nice luxury. The kitchen is a nice size and has plenty of pots and pans and dishes--not something you can always count on in a VRBO. The bed was big and comfy and the bathroom was large and well-equipped.
Like most of the places we stayed in CR, there was no AC. That was not at all a problem. It is high enough above sea level we were never uncomfortable and never missed having AC.
The waterfalls were an awesome bonus. I wasn't really expecting that to be so beautiful. The hike is a bit steep, but has rope railings most of the way down and the experience is well worth the effort. Not only were the falls spectacular, but we even found a type of poison arrow frog (little red one) that we hadn't seen on either of our two guided nature treks.
Larry was great to deal with stateside and both Don and the caretaker were warm and hospitable as well. Without reservation I wholeheartedly recommend Solrisa.
