Photos and Description of the Quincy Le Vicomte vacation cottage rental
2 bedroom cottage that sleeps max 5

Step back in time in this charming cottage dating from the 1800's, nestled into a stunning Burgundian valley in rural calm.

10km from the market town of Montbard and 15km from the picturesque, medieval town of Semur en Auxois.

The house has everything you could possibly need on holiday; a fully equipped kitchen, 2 double bedrooms, both with quality bedding and mattresses, bathroom with large shower, and a seperate toilet. Spacious, comfortable sitting room with television, dvds, and a good stereo system with a great selection of cd's. A diverse collection of books, games and wifi available throughout the cottage. A big open log fire and central heating for those cold winter nights. Romantic, very cosy and warm in winter months and cool on hot summer days. It is a home from home, you will feel relaxed from the moment you arrive!

It has a secluded, beautiful walled garden at the rear of the cottage, with terrace and BBQ.

Why Sarah chose Quincy Le Vicomte

From the moment I entered this house with its medieval features I fell in love. It was like stepping back in time. A house that wraps its arms around you, a stillness and calm I have rarely felt before. A traditional Burgundian house with the steps leading up to it and underneath, the most important, a big cellar for wine! Walls half a metre thick in places, giving a natural cool in the summer and warmth in the winter.

Having spent a lot of time in the area working I realised I wanted a home here, in rural calm, where you feel away from everything but with a fantastic TGV connection 10 mins away which means I can be leaving the cottage at breakfast and arriviing in London for lunch! Paris is an hour away and Dijon 40 mins on a train. A perfect situation. Right on my doorstep so many wonderful sights, you can spend a week here without going far visiting many differant abbeys, chateaus and beautiful medieval villages. Close proximity to the world renowned wine route of Burgundy starting from Dijon all the way down to Macon, immerse yourself into the sights, sounds and smells of the fresh food markets around every corner. Steeped in history, rich in culture, there was no question, this was where I wanted to be!

Fantastic Stay

My family and I had an absolutely lovely stay in Sarah's beautiful cottage. The home itself is very comfortable and has a wonderful, traditional French charm. It was very clean, well-stocked and, well, just perfect :-) Also, I cannot say enough about how beautiful the back yard and garden were. Sarah does a lovely job of maintaining the flowerbeds and the daffodils and tulips were in their full glory during our stay. I would highly recommend this vacation rental to anyone who loves France, charming villages and relaxing vacations. Thanks, Sarah!!
Owner's Response: Thank you Sarah! Lovely to meet you all and good luck with all your future plans and projects!

Exceptional Experience in Quincy Le Vicompte

Our weeklong stay in the cottage in November 2012 was magical from start to end. The owner, Sarah, was at the cottage when we arrived and had a fire burning in the medieval fireplace, a fresh baguette and bottle of wine waiting for us on the kitchen table. The room layout in the cottage is very functional for a small family or couple and feels large, but with all the right touches that make it charming and cozy on a cool, foggy autumn day. Before arrival, Sarah provided us with lots of information on the location/days of local markets and suggestions for charming villages to visit. But don't forget, save a morning or evening during your stay for an ambling stroll around Quincy Le Vicompte...it too is charming with features like the village bathhouse, church, and restored fountain in the town square. We wish we would have had a bit warmer weather so that we could enjoy the garden at the rear of the cottage, but there is something incredibly satisfying about sitting on the couch in front of a crackling fire in the medieval fireplace after a long day of sightseeing.

Visiting the Burgundian countryside with Quincy Le Vicompte/Montbard as a home base was perfect for us. We hired a rental car at CDG in Paris and spent everyday out exploring the unique villages. We will forever remember the wonderful earthy aroma of the countryside and the distinctive odor of woodsmoke as we darted through one village to the next on our daily adventures. Dijon and Beaune are easily accessible by train from Montbard, or a just a short drive where restaurants, museums, and wine tasting abound. Montbard provides all the basic services one could desire for a short or long stay at the cottage, such as grocery stores, a functional city center, and a surprising view from the top of the hill at Parc Buffon.

We can't imagine staying away for too long.

A place to remember.

Submitted: October 7, 2012 Stayed: September 2012
Having a house of similar character we appreciated the love and care Sarah has put into her jewel. Even our little dog Momo recognized cottage and garden immediately as her new territory which had to be defended furiously. End of September can already be cold. It took us a while to learn how the magnificent fireplace really works. At the end we had a blazing fire which turns the living room into a cozy den. Even when the wind is blowing and the rain is streaming. The kitchen was inviting. In the evenings we mostly stayed home cooking the marvelous produce we had found at the markets in the neighboring villages (a great experience). By the way, it is a treat, when the baker comes around at 8 in the morning with fresh croissants, pain au chocolat and the still warm baguettes. Living like the kings in France! We will always remember Burgundy keeping Sarah's generous hospitality in mind.

We didnt know much about this part of France, and what a find. The area in which the house is situated is beautiful and within a short drive there are fantastic medieval towns to wander around. As for the house, if you want somewhere with warmth, character, lovingly restored, a place to chill out and kick back, this is the place. Thank you Sarah, we have left your home completely re-energised!

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage in Quincy. The house is beautiful, flag stone floors, beams and tastefully decorated with a great Jazz collection !
The kitchen is very well equipped, great for foodies interested in doing some cooking. The garden is lovely too, a great space to relax in privacy. Overall, a rural idyll - perfect for relaxing in the charming countryside of Burgendy.

Fantastic holiday

Best week ever! Great food, great drink, great sights, great friends and the greatest romance!

Sarah's home is amazing - the pictures just don't do it justice - beautifully restored with all mod cons and not a bit cramped with 4 adults.

We spent our days cycling/driving around Burgundy and then returned home to a delicious BBQ in the back garden with lots of local wine!

Even without my boyfriend asking me to marry him at Fontenay Abbey :) it would have been the best holiday I've had in years. There is so much to see and do in Burgundy.

Sarah thank you again for the Cremant - I think we had a bottle every night of our stay!!!

I can't wait to go back... honeymoon...!?! :)
Owner's Response: Hi Sarah

Thank you so much for the lovely review - it was really nice to meet you all and I'm so glad you all had such a wonderful time.

Maybe I'll get to see you in Ireland or even Burgundy again for the honeymoon, when hopefully we'll get to have a glass or two of Cremant to celebrate with you!!!

Good luck with the wedding plans.

We had a wonderful stay here, very relaxing when we weren't cycling round the quiet country lanes exploring. The easy tow path route beside the canal took us 20K away in no time at all for a picnic. On our return it was good to listen to the music in front of the large open fire even though the weather was not chilly! The cottage was as we expected, comfortable and well appointed with a very sheltered garden.
Sarah was there to meet us when we arrived and was very helpful with suggestions for our many trips to visit the local towns and restaurants.
We will certainly return to Burgundy it is so beautiful and will recommend the cottage to friends.

Beautiful cottage, nice owner, great location

This is a lovely, full of character cottage in an excellent location. The house is very well equipped and furnished and has good central heating and a great fireplace. Unfortunately, because of the bad weather we could not take full advantage of the beautiful walled rear garden. The house offered however plenty of entertainment, and the kids (4 and 2 years old) spent hours of great fun exploring every single corner of this deceptively big house.

Sarah met us on arrival with a warm welcome. She remained in contact during our stay and was very helpful, giving us advice on the best places to shop for local produce and what to visit. There are also plenty of maps and brochures about the surrounding area for visitors to use.

We visited a number of beautiful little medieval towns, all within 30-40 minutes drive from the cottage. The countryside is also very beautiful, with plenty of opportunities for nice walks.

We really enjoyed our stay in Quincy Le Vicomte and would highly recommend this cottage.
Owner's Response: Thank you Mario for your kind words

I'm so glad you and your family enjoyed your time at the cottage, despite the unseasonable weather! Fortunately, as you discovered, there is so much to see and do close to the cottage - come rain or shine!

It was a pleasure having you stay and hopefully you will get the oppurtunity to return, when the weather's a little kinder, giving you the chance to explore the area even more and time enjoy the garden.

Warm regards from Burgundy.

Thank you for having us stay in your wonderful cottage - full of character and charm.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our long Easter weekend and this place provided the perfect base to explore the local countryside.

You have put so much effort into making this cottage a 'home away from home', every little detail has been thought of and you made us feel so very welcome.

We look forward to returning and will definitely pass the word on to our friends about this 'magical place'.
