Wonderful Week at the Beach

We stayed at the Whimsea the week of June 18th 2011. We had a larger group - three kids, and at one point 6 adults. Most of the week it was just three kids and three adults. The house was a good size, even when we were all there we did not feel like we were stepping all over each other. Beach is very clean, but the ocean was a little rough.
The house is really cute and "beachy", and in a great location. My three kids ages 3 - 10 had no problems walking to the beach, and there are beach and bay views from the deck. Inside the house, the living room has comfy couches (as opposed to the typical rental furniture) and is more roomy then it looks in the pictures. The porch is a great place to eat or do puzzles, or for grandparents to have time away from the kids! The kitchen is a little small, but good for eating breakfast or snacks. For dinner or lunch there is a fold-out table in the entery way which can accomidate more people.
The bedrooms are nicely decorated. The first floor bedroom is perfect for kids - it has a bunkbed plus a pop-up bed. The two upstairs bedrooms are also nice and share a jack and jill bathroom. There is also an outdoor shower (is it very private) and great for cleaning up after the beach. Washer and dryer are located behind the house in a shed.
The owners are very friendly and helpful should anything occur.
Here are a few things we suggest to people. Donna's is only 1 1/2 blocks away and a great place to walk to in the mornings to get coffee and donuts. The Italian Garden is a great place for dinner, small but food is great. And you must go to Springer's ice cream (worth the wait). Tutto Gellato has excellent gellato that must be tried! Maribella's also great for homemade Italian food. Carney's was ok for seafood. We also went to the Crabbies Inc. about 50 minutes away for all you can eat crabs.
Overall a great place, and we would go there again! Normally we go to the Outter Banks or Myrtle Beach, but Stone Harbor is now our #1 pick.
