This was a month of escaping the brutal heat and humidity of the middle east, so if it rained everyday, then we did not care.
We arrived early evening to a beautiful big apartment, equipped with everything you need. Dumped our bags and headed out to the local village to explore. We hit Nok and Joes, which is just down the mud track right across from Baan Puri (previously Club Lersuang) the food was decent, well priced and they had a singer on.
The following day we hit the pool for a bit of R&R, there were plenty of sun loungers and umbrella's. They had a problem with the pool (cracked filter) so the water was a little cloudy, they manually dealt with the problem by adding salt and chemicals. My boys did not care, and spent all day in there. I asked at the reception when it would be fixed and they did not know, they were working on it. A family we met at the pool said it had been like that since they arrived, a week prior. It was finally fixed three days before we left (so a month in total) I went in twice and it was fine, just left a greasy residue on your skin.
The compound I am lead to believe in under new management, the swim up bar was empty and not in use, and the restaurant closed for refurbishment, we could order drinks the first two weeks and food, but then it was closed for a few days on the third week and the whole of the fourth week. I am guessing because we went out of peak season, this would be the best time to do this. We rented a car, went to Tesco ( a 10 minute drive) and stocked up on drinks and snacks and took them poolside with us.
We had a wonderful holiday here, and would not hesitate to go back, the locals were warm and friendly, and we spent a lot of time in Cafe' De Bangtao which is a short walk away. We used the laundry service next to Nok and Joe's, "Mam" was a lifesaver. You can pack really light and just have it washed and ironed for 60 baht a kilo.
The day before we left, we noticed the small house right outside the reception door across the street, had lights on....then all of a sudden a small mini market popped up, perfect for water, drinks, bread, milk, cereals!
Anyone who goes here will have a fantastic time, we did Patong a few days, but my older son got inundated with the "friendly" ladies and it really put him off. I am sure when he is older he will not be so "freaked" out :-)
We would recommend the Zorbing, Splash Jungle, the waterfalls, Bliss Beach club on Bang Tao beach, Black Cat and Peppers bar.
